Prepare Our Hearts In This Time Of Advent

Heavenly Father, thank You for the opportunity for us to once again examine our hearts during this lovely time of Advent, and the faith in Christ Jesus that we confess.

Keep our hearts aglow with love for Jesus, and help us to wonder more and more about amazing the grace that You have shown towards sinful man, in sending Your only begotten Son to come to earth, as a tiny human baby, so that He could bear the punishment for the sins of the whole world on His holy shoulders.

It never ceases to amaze us that Christ Jesus should set aside His heavenly glory and be conceived of the Holy Spirit by the virgin Mary, birthed into the human family as the promised Seed of the woman, and be worshipped as a tiny baby in a humble stable at Bethlehem, by simple shepherds and singing angels alike.

It was Love incarnate that visited the earth so many years ago, and that same love saved us from our sins, and came to dwell within the hearts of all that trust in Jesus as Saviour. Heavenly Father, accept our grateful sacrifice of praise, and may we come to know You more and love You better in the days that lie ahead. In Jesus' name we pray,

Amen.

“LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:”

To Be Equipped To Face The Future Alone

Dear Lord Jesus, I am filled with fear and anxiety as I have been left completely alone. I have no one in the world to care for me, no one who is really interested in me, and I am so frightened to have to face the future all on my own.

I do believe in Jesus as my Saviour, and I want to draw closer to You. I know from all that I learned as a child that my hope is in You alone. Lord, I have found a scripture in the book of Psalms that says that You put the lonely in families, and I find that such a comfort.

Please Lord, will You do that for me? Lord, if this is Your will for me, would You put me into a family and bring some lovely people that will come alongside me and be a family to me – but in any event, I pray that You would equip me to live my life and face the future in such a way that is honouring to You.

Thank You, Lord, that You really do care for me. I pray that You may even use me to be a comfort to others who may also facing a future alone. In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen.

Healing Prayer For A Lonely Person

Oh Lord, I am ill and feel frightened and alone as I have no one to care for me. I have no one who is really interested in me at all, and I feel lost and alone and so vulnerable. And now Lord Jesus, I have come down with this sickness and I feel so ill. Lord, I ask You please to make me well again soon, and lift up my sagging spirit, I pray.

I know Lord in my heart that I am not alone, because You are with me, which is the real reason that I am praying to You now, because You promised to be with me and never to leave me or forsake me, even when everyone else does. Be with me now I pray, and reach out Your healing hand of blessing and touch me Lord. Please make me feel better, not only in my body but also in my life, I pray.

Thank You, that I can call on You in times of trouble or illness or loneliness, and know that You are always there to hear and answer, to heal and comfort and help. Lord, I pray that You would help me to really apply this truth in my life, not just when I am sick, but every day.

Amen.

Heavenly Father, when I look into the heavens and see the splendour of Your handiwork and the glories of Your creative power, I am moved, as was David, to proclaim Your glory and to declare the wonderful works of Your mighty hand. But when I look to the Cross of Calvary and see Christ, dead, buried, and Resurrected to life so that by faith in Him, I might be reconciled back to God, be forgiven of my sins, and become Your child and heir, I am lost in wonder, love, and praise, AMEN.

Praying through Psalm 19:14

Loving Father, the heart that meditates on the Lord and lifts up the person of the Lord Jesus, is the one that exhibits an inner grace and beauty, for such a one is willingly being transformed into the likeness of Christ. I know that out of the mouth come thoughts that are conceived in the heart, and so I pray that, like David, in humility of heart I would sanctify the words of my mouth, the meditation of my heart, the thoughts of my mind, and the motives of my inner being so that I too am pleasing and acceptable in the sight of my precious Lord and Saviour. In His name I pray, AMEN.

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”

Loving Father, so much of my life has been seeking my own desires, which are empty vessels, unless filled to the brim with You and with Your perfect will. May my heart and mind be increasingly conformed into the likeness of Christ, and may I grow in grace, so that I am increasingly sensitive to Your desires and make them the longing of my heart within me. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through Psalm 21:1

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful book of Psalms, the amazing truths they contain, and the wonderful lessons I can learn from reading them and meditating upon them. Teach me all that You would have me learn from the writings of Psalmists like king David, the truths I can glean about the Lord Jesus Christ, and the future prophetic words that will be fulfilled through Him. Open my understanding that I may gain an intimate knowledge and understanding of the many biblical themes, promises, protection, and truths that are contained within its pages. Thank You that You are a God Who hears and answers the prayers of Your people and delivers us from all our enemies. Thank You that victory over our enemies is ours, through Christ our Saviour, in Whose name I pray, AMEN.

For A Dying Christian Friend In A Hospice

Loving Lord, I just want to lift up my dear friend to You, who has been such a comfort and strength to me for so many years, but who has at last been admitted to a hospice where she is to pass her final few weeks of life in dignity and respect, as her life drains from her. Lord, I know that I am going to miss her so much.

Be with her Lord, every moment of the day and night. Thank You Father, that she is to be looked after in such a caring and understanding environment. Be with the staff who are to attend her as her life flows from her and Lord, I pray that she would be very aware of Your very presence with her, every moment of the day.

Lord, I know that she is ready and longing to meet You face to face, and I ask that You would keep her free from the pain and suffering that so often stalks the advancement of death. But praise God that the grave has lost its terrible sting and death has lost its victory, through the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise Your holy name!

Lord, I know that I am going to miss my dear friend, but my sadness has such a wonderful tinge of hope and joy, for I know that soon we will all be together in Your company, where we will be free from all sickness and sadness, and You will wipe away every tear from our eyes. Thank You Lord, in Jesus' name,

Amen.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

Lord how I thank You that my times are under Your control and authority.. and that nothing can pluck me out of Your hands, without Your knowledge and Your consent. Thank You for this day knowing that has been such a blessing and joy to me.. and thank You that every passing moment has been such a gracious gift and blessing from You.

Prayer For Babies Safety

Dear Heavenly Father, You are a God Who has a special place for babies and young children in Your tender heart, and You know that we live in a fallen world where many babies and young children are often in danger, not only from external issues but even from those that care for them. And so we ask for Your loving protection to surround all babies and young children, and that You keep each one free from harm.

And so we entrust all vulnerable young children and tiny babies into Your loving hands for safe keeping, and pray that nothing evil will befall any one of them, and that they will be lovingly protected from any physical harm or emotional trauma.

Thank You, Lord, for hearing and answering prayer. May this generation of babies and toddlers grow up desiring to know more of You in the days that lie ahead. This we ask in Jesus' name,

Amen.

Prayer Of Confession For Anger Harboured In My Heart

Loving Lord, I confess that there is much bitterness and anger in my heart, and I come to You knowing that there is nothing that I can do to rid myself of this suffocating handicap in my life.

Search me within Lord, and expose all that is not pleasing in Your sight. Help me to find a closure to the deep rooted anger which seems to be rooted in a deep-seated unforgiveness.

Forgive me Lord, for the pain I have caused, for I know my anger has hurt so many people. Yet I realise that my sin of anger is directed against You and it is against You alone that I have sinned in this way.

Also, I pray that You will create in me a forgiving heart towards all those that have hurt me so deeply. And knowing that the Lord Jesus forgave me so many sins, I confess that I too should forgive others, just as God for Christ’s sake forgave me all my sin.

Thank You that in You I have victory against all my sin, including my anger – for in Christ the power of sin has been broken in my life because I trust in His name.

Thank You Lord. I trust You to take away all the anger within me and fill me with Your perfect peace, for You have promised to keep all in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You.

Amen.

There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.”

For Families With An Alcoholic Father

Loving Heavenly Father, You put us into families and set a father as the leader and role model for each family, but Lord, there are many families that are being torn apart by a husband and father that has become addicted to alcohol.

Knowing the devastating nature of this disease, I pray that You would prompt each one to turn away from this evil habit to become the responsible husband and father that You desire each one to be.

Lord, we know that there are many alcoholic husbands that abuse their wives both physically and emotionally and that many children are also placed in danger due to abuse from an alcoholic father. And also Lord, we know that such drinking habits can often leave families with insufficient money to live on.

Protect all those that are vulnerable from all forms of abuse, and convict such men of the responsibilities of being loving husbands and dependable fathers. Lord, we pray that they turn from their evil ways to turn to the Lord Jesus, knowing that only in You is true freedom found.

Thank You Father. I commit all families that are in this position into Your safe-keeping. In Jesus' name,

Amen.

“Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.”

Prayer In A Time of Illness

Dear Father God, thank You for the many blessings that we receive from You daily and especially for the wonderful gift of salvation, which we all have been given simply by trusting in Jesus as Saviour. Thank You, that He died to take the punishment I deserve for my sins, and that He rose again to break the power of sin and death in my life. How I praise You and worship You for all Your many blessing.

Lord, I thank You for my life. I know that we are wonderfully created and every part of our body is a miracle, but I come to You today as I am not at all well in my body and my health seems to be failing. I have always been fairly healthy Lord, for which I praise You, but have come down recently with a number of unrelated ailments and Lord, I feel so poorly and ask for Your healing touch on my life.

Be with me Lord, and with all that are facing similar problems in their lives. Lord, it seems that so many people that I know have contracted some sort of health problem, and I just ask You to visit each of us at this time of illness, stretch Your healing hand on each of our lives and restore us to good health.

Thank You, that You are a God Who hears and answers prayers. In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen.

Prayer For Personal Accountability

Lord Jesus, it says in Your Word, examine Yourself to see it you are in the faith. Lord, I realise that this is not talking to unbelievers but to all of us who are Your children in Christ Jesus. Lord, help me to examine myself, and all that I am learning from You and Your Word, so that I truly may say with conviction, "I know in Whom I have believed and am walking in the path on which He has placed me."

Keep me also from critical thoughts of others, and prevent me Lord, from having a spirit of control, or by pretending to hold others accountable to You, when the beam in my own eye is greater than the speck that is in my brothers’ eye. Keep me humble before Your throne of grace.

Thank You for all my Christian friends and family. Keep us all walking close to You in the days that lie ahead. In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen.

Prayer For Women Planning An Abortion

Heavenly Father, we know that every good and perfect gift comes from You and that children are a special heritage from the Lord. But Father, we also know that the enemy of our soul seeks to kill and destroy all that is from You, and especially the lives of little babies in the womb.

And so we lift up all women who may be planning to have an abortion, or who have been deceived into thinking that this is a woman’s right, rather than a sin against their creator God, and we pray that You would create in their hearts a desire to do what is right and a realisation of the evil that surrounds the practice of abortion, that they themselves are considering

Bring into the life of each mother those that would give godly counsel and change the hearts of those who have already made a decision to go down the route of abortion.

Amen.

Prayer For A Child Caught Up In Addiction

Dear Lord Jesus, our heart is breaking with grief because our precious child has gone down the route of addiction. They have left home and are now living rough in the streets and seem to have become an entirely different personality. Lord, we have not seen them now for many months and we are filled with great sadness. But we are trusting You Lord to work a miracle.

Lord, there is nothing that we can do but to trust You, and we do trust You Lord to turn our child right round and return them home. Prayer For Abundant Rain In Drought

Loving Lord and Heavenly Father, You alone are good and You alone richly provide for all the needs and the necessities of life, and in Your loving-kindness You give us over and above all that we ask or think. Thank You for Your steadfast love and gracious provision to us and to all Your creation.

Forgive us for the times when we have taken Your provision for granted and the times when we have failed to thank You and give You the honour and gratitude that You deserve. Thank You, that even though we have failed to acknowledge all that You give us day by day, You faithfully provide us richly all things to enjoy. But Lord, we come to You now, knowing that we are facing a drought in this region and we ask You to send abundant rain on the earth, which has become dry, thirsty and arid.

Look down in pity our plight we pray. It is not only the plants that are wilting, but even the animals and people in this place are parched and dry. Oh Lord, send us rain. A Mothers Prayer For Her Premature Baby

Heavenly Father, the baby that has been growing within my womb for these many months is now in an incubator fighting for life, and I feel numb and utterly helpless.

Lord, You know the joy and excitement and also the tears and grief that we have gone through these last few weeks and months, and that our emotions are shot through with so many fluctuating feelings because of this unexpected and premature delivery. I pray that in Your pity and grace, You would touch the life of my precious little one and spare their life, and bring them through into full health and strength.

Lift the heavy burden from my heart and help me to come to terms with what has happened, and I pray that I may be able to accept that nothing happens that is not in Your permissive will. I ask that You would give me the strength, day by day, to cope with this unexpected set of circumstances.

Protect my baby from any other form of infection or illness, and may this little body be strengthened through Your mighty power with each passing day. Give the doctors and nurses the skill to do all that is needed to care for my baby, and give me the sufficient strength that only comes from You. May Your peace reside in my heart, knowing that all things work together for good to those that are called according to Your good purpose. Thank You, Father, in Jesus' name,

Amen.

Prayer For A Recovering Alcoholic

Heavenly Father, thank You for helping me along the way to recovery from my addiction to alcohol. Prayer For Personal Healing

Heavenly Father, I know that my times are in Your hands and I also believe that You care about everything in my life. In Your sovereignty, You are not surprised by anything that happens to any of Your children. I believe that You make all things work together for the good of us that love You. I believe that You care for each one of us with a perfect and holy love.

I come to You today because my health has been deteriorating with some ailment that has not been diagnosed. I am not sure what to do, but I know that You understand everything about me. I believe that You know exactly what I need to bring me back to full health and strength and I am trusting You in this time of illness in my life.

Please God, I ask for Your healing touch on my life, and pray that You would bring to my attention the treatment that is best suited for my condition. Please direct me in the way that I should go at this difficult time in my life. Thank You, Father, in Jesus' name I pray,

Amen.

Praying through Psalm 109:26

Heavenly Father, there are times when the difficulties and dangers in my life seem to be very similar to the things that David went through. In the same way that he called on You to judge his enemies and cover his accusers with dishonour and shame, I too have had times when I feel like praying for You to avenge me of all the horrid things my enemies have done against me. I also know You have promised that Your grace is sufficient for me in all the evils I may face. Lord, give me wisdom to know how to pray when I am beset by those that would do me harm. Help me, O Lord my God, to deal with my enemies in a Christlike way, and give me wisdom to recognise a time to pray for forgiveness, and a time to pray for justice. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Bedtime Prayers For Soldiers

Father, as we settle down to sleep in the relative peace and safety of our own homes, we want to lift up our brave men and women in uniform, who are serving in so many difficult and dangerous places, and under such harsh and uncomfortable circumstances.

We pray for Your protection and guidance in the tremendous challenges that they are called to face, as they strive to protect our country and maintain peace and security in their various situations

Give wisdom to those that are in authority that they may make the right choices and be directed by You in the many decisions they are called up on to make. And may those that are under their authority be covered by Your protecting hand and return home in due course, to their family and friends that have been left behind.

Lord we know that in this peace-keeping role there are many emotions and hardships that our military will inevitably have to face and so we pray that You would be close to those that are lonely, give strength to the weary, hope to the despairing, peace to those that are disturbed and grace to all who are having to face the many hardships and dangers that are associated with military duties. And most of all we pray that many that the men and women in uniform would come to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus  Christ as Saviour in the days that lie ahead – this we ask in Jesus name,

Amen

Bedtime Prayer For Loved Ones

Thank You Father for the many friends, family and loved ones that by Your grace  You have placed in my life, and I lift them up to You tonight, praying that You would protect and care for each one during these hours of darkness.

Thank You for the many precious promises that we can pray for our loved ones.. and tonight I thank You that those who dwell in the shelter of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  Be with all those I love tonight and give each one the beloved sleep that You have promised to all Your children – this I ask in Jesus name,

Amen

Prayer Of Dedication To The Lord

Thank You my Father, for this precious babe that You have graciously entrusted to me to love and cherish, to teach and to train. Lord, it is my desire to dedicate this treasured child back to You, just as Hannah brought her Samuel, to give him back into Your safe-keeping. Keep me from possessiveness and prevent me from clinging too tightly to this little life, but may I give him the freedom to grow without neglecting the responsibilities of parenthood.

Give me godly wisdom as I bring up this little one, and I pray that he will grow up into a great man of God and that one day You would use him in a special way to bring glory to Your name.

Keep him from all harm and danger and help me to train him in all wisdom and grace so that he may follow the path of true righteousness.

I pray that he may come to trust in Jesus Christ as Saviour and that he will grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus, for to know You is life eternal. Keep him from the temptations of this life, and protect him from the influences of this world system, which can so easily shipwreck the pure faith of a young and trusting child.

Just as the Lord Jesus grew in knowledge and wisdom and in favour with God and man, I pray that in a small way my child may grow in godly wisdom and find favour in Your sight. In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen.

Help Me To Give You My Anxieties

Lord, I don’t want to be anxious about anything, knowing that I can cast all of my anxious thoughts on You, but how difficult I find it to cast all my cares on You, before I start to worry. What often happens is that I become more and more anxious over all the difficulties of life that are crowding in on me, and eventually I turn my thoughts to You and reach out to You in my helplessness.

Lord, in my understanding of Who You are I know that You are always my Rock in times of troubles and over and again I have seen You help in time of need, but very rarely do You act in the way that I expect!

Lord, I know that I am not to be anxious about the provision of life and the needs of the home, nor am I to fret over the actions and attitudes of evildoers, who seem to encompass me on every side, for I know and believe that the day is coming when evildoers will wither away like the grass of the field, as Your Word teaches, while those that trust in the Lord will dwell securely, under the shadow of Your wings.

Help me Lord to cast my anxious thoughts on You before I start to fret. Help me to reach out to You in my helplessness before I try to sort things out myself, for You have promised to be my help in time of trouble. Thank You for being such a faithful God.

Amen.

Lead me and guide me in the things that I should say, whether to speak up, or remain silent. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Psalm 148:5

Heavenly Father, You alone are worthy of all praise and glory, for You not only created us, but have redeemed us through the precious blood of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Renew in me a new and glorious song of worship and praise, for You commanded and the world was created, and in Your grace, You gave Your only begotten Son to redeem that same fallen creation. Thank You that I have been born-again into Your new creation in Christ and I pray that I will never become complacent with my salvation, but live and work for Your greater praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.
