Praying through 1 Kings 2:3

Heavenly Father, thank You for the lessons I can learn from the Old Testament characters and the directives and teachings that come through them. Father, I deeply desire to walk in Your ways and to live in spirit and truth. Help me to abide in Christ, to love as He loved, and in all things to say, "Thy will not mine be done." Lord, I long to live by faith alone, to trust Your Word implicitly, and to be submissive to the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Help me to follow in the footsteps of the Lord Jesus Christ Who did only those things that were good and righteous in Your eyes. May I die to self and live for Christ, from this day forward. This I ask in Jesus' name, and for His greater glory, AMEN.

“And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:”

Praying through 1 Kings 3:9

Father God, how I praise and thank You for Your Word which provides Your children with the tools we need for godly lives and righteous living. Give me an understanding heart and the grace to discern between good and evil. I pray that I would live a life that honours my Saviour and testifies to Your goodness and grace. May I have a teachable spirit and the dear desire to discover more of Christ, to walk in His ways, and to listen to the inner promptings of the Holy Spirit. Keep me from straying from the path of peace, and give me a deeper knowledge and understanding of the Lord Jesus Christ, in Whom I place my trust. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?”

Praying through 1 Kings 8:9

Heavenly Father, what a lesson to learn that nothing should be allowed to compete with Christ’s exalted position in my life, and no one should ever be elevated above the Lord Jesus. Thank You for the many lessons I can learn from the history of Israel, the things to avoid, the way to behave, the need to trust Your Word, the importance to hold fast to the truth, and the blessing to be guided by Your Spirit. I pray that, day by day, I would learn from these lessons and live my life to Your glory and honour. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.”

Praying through 1 Kings 8:20

Heavenly Father, thank You for the Word of truth and for the many examples of your goodness, grace, and faithfulness to Your people, both the nation of Israel, and the Body of Christ. Thank You that You are fulfilling the Word You spoke to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and David, and that Your promises will never fail, for You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. Thank You that Jesus is coming back to sit on the throne of David, as Scripture reveals. In the meantime, help me to live and work to Your praise and glory, through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“And the LORD hath performed his word that he spake, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.”

Praying through 1 Kings 17:5

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many examples of godly men and women, both in Scripture and down through the ages, who have lived by faith, trusted Your Word, and acted on Your instruction, by grace through faith. Keep me from acting on my own imaginations or fleshly inclinations, but help me, as I read Your Word, to come to a deeper understanding of it, to believe it, and to act upon it, as directed by Your Holy Spirit. This I ask in the precious name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour, AMEN.

“So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.”

Praying through 1 Kings 19:12

Father God, I am humbled to realise that You have included me and my life, as part of Your plan for humanity. I realise more and more that I must decrease in every area of my life and entrust all circumstances into Your gracious hands... so that You may increase, and I may decrease. Use me, Lord, as You will, in Your wider plans and purposes, and develop in me an understanding heart and a listening ear to hear all You have to say to me. Teach me the lessons that You would have me to learn and keep me looking to Jesus. This I ask in His precious name, AMEN.

“And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.”
