Prayer for 1 Kings

Choose Chapter

Heavenly Father, thank You for the lessons we can learn from the Old Testament characters and the directives and teaching that come through them. Father, I deeply desire to walk in Your ways, to live in spirit and truth. Help me to abide in Christ, to love as He loved and in all things to say THY will not mine be done. Lord, I long to live by faith alone, to trust Your word implicitly, to be submissive to the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit and to follow in the footsteps of the Lord Jesus Christ - Who did only those things that were good and righteous in Your eyes. May I die to self and live for Christ, from this day forward - this I ask in Jesus name and for His greater glory, AMEN.

“And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:”
(1 Kings 2:3)

Father God, how we praise and thank You for Your word which provides Your children with the tools for godly lives and righteous living. Give me an understanding heart and the grace to discern between good and evil.. but also I pray that I would live a life that honours my Saviour and testifies to Your goodness and grace. I pray that I may have a teachable spirit and the dear desire to discover more of Christ - to walk in His ways and to listen to the inner promptings of the Holy Spirit. Keep me from straying from the path of peace and give me a deeper knowledge and understanding of the Lord Jesus Christ, in Whom I place my trust, AMEN.

“Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?”

To Provide My Family’s Need In Hard Times

Loving Lord, You are the One that gives the swallow its nest and paints the wayside flowers with such vibrant colours, and I know that if You care so lovingly for the birds of the air and the flowers of the field – how much more is Your loving-kindness poured out on each of Your children.

Lord I know this truth and I trust Your Word of truth – but I also know that we who are Your children are to live by faith just like the birds and the flowers, without striving to do everything ourselves – but rather trusting Your provision.

Oh Lord – we are facing many difficulties in these hard times. I know that so many others families are also finding it hard to make ends meet - and at times it is hard to trust You to provide for all our needs… but Lord please calm my worried thoughts and help me to rest all my family needs in You.

Thank You Lord for the way that You have provided all our needs in the past and give me the grace to lay all my burdens at Your feet – knowing that we are much more precious to You than the birds of the air and the flowers of the field,

Let me trust in You and not be afraid I pray, in these hard times- in Jesus name I pray and THANK You Lord,

“And Solomon's provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and threescore measures of meal,”

Heavenly Father, what a lesson to learn that nothing should be allowed to compete with Christ's exalted position in my life and no-one should ever be elevated above our loving Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You for the many lessons we can learn from the history of Israel - the things to avoid; the way to behave; the need to trust Your word; the importance to hold fast to the truth; and the blessing to be guided by Your Spirit. I pray that, day by day, I may call to remembrance Christ's saving work on the cross and within my heart. I do not deserve Your grace, nor do I deserve to have my sin-debt freely paid for me. Heavenly Father, Your love has no boundaries and I am eternally grateful for Your gracious mercy and loving-kindness, which is new every morning - thank You in Jesus' name, AMEN.

There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for the Word of truth and for the many examples of your goodness, grace and faithfulness to Your people - both the nation of Israel and the Body of Christ. Thank You that You are fulfilling the word You spoke to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and David and that Your promises will never fail - for You are the same yesterday, today and forever. We thank You that Jesus is coming back to sit on the throne of David as Scripture reveals. In the meantime, help me to live and work to Your praise and glory - through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

“And the LORD hath performed his word that he spake, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.”

Prayer For Israel’s Rain

Heavenly Father, You have promised give Your people their rain in due season so that the land may bring forth its increase. You have promised to send the early and the latter rains and we thank You for Your faithfulness in watering the land of Israel for so many years.

Lord we come again to pray that You would refill us like the Sea of Galilee and pour refreshing rains on the land, so that the rivers will be filled and the land will blossom and bloom and yield its harvest in due season.

Lord as a nation Israel had strayed far from You and has even failed to recognise their Saviour and King - and yet You have not forgotten Your own chosen people and have continued to bless them, despite their unbelief and blindness to the truth of the glorious gospel of Christ. Father we pray for Israel, that You would send an abundance of rain to fill up the depleted reservoirs of water.

Water Your land and bless Your people, Israel we pray and we pray that many may come to recognise the Lord Jesus as their God and Saviour, in Whose name we pray,

“And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.”
(1 Kings 17:1)

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many examples of godly men and women, both in scripture and down through the ages, who have lived by faith, trusted Your Word and acted on Your instruction, by grace through faith. Keep me from acting on my own imaginations or fleshly inclinations but help me I pray, to read and come to a deeper understanding of Your Word, and to believe and to act upon it - as directed by Your Holy Spirit. This I ask in the precious name of Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour, AMEN.

“So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.”

Healing For My Long Time Illness

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for being with me through all the ups and downs of my life and for the many blessings that You have given me for which I praise and thank You.

Lord – You know the illness that I have been struggling with for a long time now and that there is little that seems to be able to be done by the medical profession - but Lord I believe that I am fearfully and wonderfully made and that You know every part of my body - and You know exactly why I have been ill for so long. Lord, I come to You now asking that You would work a full recovery in my body – whatever is causing this persistent problem - and I pray that You would, in Your mercy give me back the health and strength I need…

Lord if there is anything that is lacking in my diet or anything that is causing this ongoing problem within my body – I pray that You would show me so that it may be finally dealt with – Restore again my health and strength I pray and guide me along the path that You have planned for me, in Jesus name I pray,

“And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.”
(1 Kings 17:17)

Gratitude For Answered Prayer

Thank You Father for Your goodness and mercy to me, and to all men, which is new every morning and for the wonderful answers to prayer for which I praise and glorify Your name.
Thank You that I have access to the throne of grace, to find mercy and grace to help in time of need and day by day I praise and thank  You  hear that You hear and answer the cries of my heart and supply all my needs according to Your riches in glory.
Thank You Lord for the simple things in life that we so often take for granted.. the sun and stars;  the flowers and trees; our daily food and clothing;  my home and family and the peace and joy that comes from knowing You.
Thank You also for sharing in my sorrows and joys; and for the sufficient grace and strength that we receive day by day and thank You Lord for dying for me on the cross as my Redeemer – paying the price for my sins so that I may have Your life and live with You in heaven forever. May my heart be truly thankful and may I live my life in a manner that is pleasing to You to Your honour and glory, in Jesus name I pray,

“And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.”

Prayer For Rain In A Drought

Dear Lord, we are facing a sever drought and we plead with You to open the heavens and send rain on this dry and thirsty land. Lord we know that You are the one that sends the rain and You are the one that can withhold the rain, but we pray that You would look down in pity on our waterless land and send the rain to water the land, reviving the land and the people.

Lord we do not deserve You grace and mercy, for we have not loved and served You as we should – but You are long-suffering and of great goodness and You would send rivers of water over the vegetation and fill up the water-hold and well – for the earth is parched and we do not know what to do.

Lord for Your Holy Names sake we ask that You would send the rains in this land soon, for we have no hope but You – for You have promised to give rain upon the earth and send water on the fields – You have promised that the seasons will not fail and that the harvest will continue to provide their bounty – but without the life-giving water, we are going to have to face very severe consequences. In Your mercy send us rain in the dry and dusty land, we pray in Jesus name.

“And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.”

For God’s Strength In Troubled Times

Thank You Lord that You are my refuge and my strength in hard times and an ever present helper in times of trouble. Help me to cling to You and this truth from the Bible, that You keep bringing to my mind.

I know that You are the only, all-powerful God and that there is nothing that is too difficult in my life for You to deal with – nor is there any obstacle in my path that is so insurmountable that I cannot cross – knowing that You are by my side.

Give me I pray Your strength to face today’s hard and troubled times with the confidence of knowing that Your strength is made perfect in my weakness. Thank YOU that my strength comes from You and that Your grace is sufficient for all the tasks and duties that will cross my daily path – not only for today but for the rest of my journey through life.

Thank YOU Father that Your grace is sufficient – help me to meditate on this truth every day,

“And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.”
(1 Kings 19:7)

Father God, when I consider you have included me and my life as part of Your plan for humanity. I realise more and more that I must decrease in every area of my life and entrust all circumstances of my life into Your gracious hands so that You may increase, and I may decrease. Use me Lord as You will in Your wider purposes and develop in me a listening ear to hear all You have to say to me and teach me the lessons that You would have me to learn, in Christ's name I pray, AMEN.

“And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.”
