Prayer for James

Praying through James 1:1

Heavenly Father, thank You for the inspired Scriptures and all the truth they contain. I pray that when there is a passage I find difficult or a concept I do not understand, that You would open up my understanding so I may grow in grace and in a knowledge of the Lord Jesus. Thank You that our salvation does not depend on our parents, position, or pedigree, nor is it based on our intellect, skill, education, or nationality. Thank You for all that Jesus endured in His humanity so that He could become the sacrifice for my sin. Thank You that in Your grace You sent Your only begotten Son to live and die so that by faith in Him, I may die to this old self-life and be raised into newness of life. Praise Your holy name, AMEN.

“James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.”

Praying through James 1:11

Heavenly Father, help me to number my days and to set my mind on things above. Prayer For Our Baby To Be Healthy

How we praise and thank You for our precious little baby and all the joy that he/she has brought us, and so Father, into Your hands we commit our precious little one and pray that You grace and love would surround them and that You would keep them in good health and strength, and protect from them from the diseases and illnesses that can be so troubling for a young child

We pray not only for physical health and strength and a strong, healthy body but also for mental well-being and emotional stability.

But also Father, we bring before You the spiritual well-being of our precious child. We pray that our baby would grow up to know and love the Lord Jesus personally and come to accept Him as Saviour.

Lord, we pray that You would endow this little one with health in every area of his development and thank You for what You are going to do in their life. In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and the truths within its pages. Thank You that I am not in bondage to the Law of Moses, but am free to live in the liberty of the Law of the Spirit of God, in Christ Jesus. Thank You for the lessons I can learn from Your dealings with Israel and of the importance of remaining in fellowship with You, day by day. Thank You that Christ died to pay the full price for my sin, and that I have been given the power to live a holy life, that is honouring to You. Keep me from sinning, for I know that sin, in thought, word, or deed, will remove me from the fellowship I enjoy with You. But thank You that Christ's sacrifice for me was made once and for all, and that if I confess those times I fall into sin, You are faithful to forgive me and return me into sweet communion with Yourself. For Families With An Alcoholic Father

Loving Heavenly Father, You put us into families and set a father as the leader and role model for each family, but Lord, there are many families that are being torn apart by a husband and father that has become addicted to alcohol.

Knowing the devastating nature of this disease, I pray that You would prompt each one to turn away from this evil habit to become the responsible husband and father that You desire each one to be.

Lord, we know that there are many alcoholic husbands that abuse their wives both physically and emotionally and that many children are also placed in danger due to abuse from an alcoholic father. And also Lord, we know that such drinking habits can often leave families with insufficient money to live on.

Protect all those that are vulnerable from all forms of abuse, and convict such men of the responsibilities of being loving husbands and dependable fathers. Lord, we pray that they turn from their evil ways to turn to the Lord Jesus, knowing that only in You is true freedom found.

Thank You Father. I commit all families that are in this position into Your safe-keeping. In Jesus' name,

Amen.

“And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?”

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus and the example He set in His life of a Man Who fulfilled the redemptive work that You had prepared for Him to do, willingly and in the power of the Holy Spirit. I pray that I may work the works of God and demonstrate a living faith that honours Your holy name. I pray that I will not try to carry out dead works in my own strength but rather that I will demonstrate a living faith using Jesus as the pattern for my Christian walk. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through James 2:19

Heavenly Father, help me to examine myself to make sure I am in the faith. Lord, I believe that Jesus died for my sin and that He rose again, the third day, to pay the price for my sin and the sin of the whole world. Lord, I am not worthy to gather up the crumbs under Your table, but I believe that Christ came to pay the price for MY sin, when He died on the Cross and I believe He broke the power of sin and death in my life and has imputed me with His own righteousness, by faith, for which I am eternally thankful. I praise and thank You for Your goodness and grace towards me. Thank You, in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You that there is nothing contradictory in Scripture. I pray that you would open my understanding of passages that may be difficult to understand or that false teachers take out of context, in order to promote an unbiblical doctrine. Thank You that, like Abraham, I am saved by grace through faith and that my salvation depends on the work that Christ has already done, and not on the works I do in my life. And thank You that, like Abraham, I can demonstrate my faith and love to You by performing good works, as led by the Spirit. May my life be one that is holy unto You and that honours Your name. Praying through James 4:9

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wise instruction to live godly and victorious lives, in the book of James. Help me surrender my life and maintain sweet fellowship with You. Purify my heart and keep me from double-mindedness. May I hate sin in all its ugly guises and mourn over the things that dishonour Your holy name. Keep me low at the Cross and I pray that I would humble my heart before you daily. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.”

Praying through James 4:10

Heavenly Father, thank You that You have so clearly set out the criteria for Your children to humble ourselves before Your throne of grace. Thank You for the promise that when I am ready and willing to humble myself before You, then in Your grace You will lift me up and set my feet on the Rock of my salvation. Keep my heart humble before You and my eyes fixed on You. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”

Praying through James 4:11

Heavenly Father, I pray that I may become a doer of Your holy law and not fall into the foolish trap of judging it, by condemning the actions of others. Lord, You alone can judge the thoughts of the heart and I have no right to condemn others, through my own self-righteous attitude. Keep me humble before you and help me become an encouragement to my brothers and sisters in Christ, and not their accuser. Keep me from being 'wise in my own conceit', or making arbitrary assumptions about the motives of others and above all, teach me to love others as Christ loved me, for in so doing I will honour Your name, as Christ lives in and through me. In His precious name I pray, AMEN.

“Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.”

Praying through James 4:14

Heavenly Father, it is easy to get caught up in the joys and cares of this life. Help me remember how fragile my life is and how short my time on earth is, in relation to eternity. Help me to live my life with an eternal perspective, knowing that You have my life in Your hands, and You do know what tomorrow will bring. May I take to heart the words of this precious old poem: "Only one life 'twill soon be past. Only what's done for Christ will last." Thank You, Lord. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”

Praying through James 4:15

Heavenly Father, I do not want to live my life apart from You. I surrender my life into Your hands, knowing that You care for me. Thank You that nothing can stop Your perfect will from being done as You unfold Your plan of redemption from eternity past unto its perfect completion. I pray that Your will be done in my life each day, until I see You face to face. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.”

Praying through James 4:17

Heavenly Father, thank You for this truth in the book of James that when I know what is righteous and yet do not do it, I am committing a sin in Your eyes. Forgive me for the times when I have known that something is evil but done it anyway, when I have avoided doing what is right, or when I have turned a blind eye to some need or necessity. I pray that from this day forward, I would not only know what is right but be ready and willing to carry it out, through Your sufficient strength and for Your greater glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

Praying through James 5:6

Heavenly Father, at times it does appear that the ungodly are prospering in all they do while righteous people are living lives of poverty, poor health, and ridicule. Help me to remember that You see everything and, in the end, all will be made right by You. In the meantime, help me not to focus on the perceived riches or happiness of ungodly people but to pray for them and to tell them of the greatest gift in this world and eternity, salvation through faith in Jesus. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.”

Praying through James 5:7

Heavenly Father, I pray that I would develop the patient endurance that perfects my faith, through the trials I face and the way I live. Keep me from developing a worldly perspective and wrong values and help me to be like the farmer who waits for the precious produce of the soil to bring forth its fruit in due season. Help me to trust You in all things and to finish the good work You started in my life. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.”

Praying through James 5:11

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many lessons that I can learn from Your Word. Thank You for the example of Job and other men and women of faith who patiently endured in times of deep trouble. May I be one that stands firm in my faith and endures to the end in these evil times for Your praise and glory - for You are a God of compassion and mercy Whose love endures from one generation to another. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.”

Praying through James 5:14

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for the wonderful doctors and nurses who always do their best to help me when I am sick or injured. But help me to remember that You are the Great Physician Who is fully able to heal if it is Your will. Thank You that when I am sick I can visit the doctor, but help me to also come to You for healing, to be prayed over and anointed by the elders of my church. Forgive me for the times that I have doubted You and tried to sort things out in my life on my own. Give me a humble heart and increase my trust in You. May I never forget that Your grace is sufficient for every eventuality of life. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through James 5:16

Heavenly Father, I desire to maintain sweet fellowship with You and to walk godly in Christ Jesus. Help me to recognise my faults and quickly seek Your forgiveness. Help me also to confess my faults to those I have wronged, and I pray that I may maintain an attitude of prayer and learn to pray fervently in spirit and truth so that in Christ my prayers may be effective and avail much, to Your honour and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
