Dear Father God, in a world where many people are struggling to overcome the curse of alcoholic addiction, we lift up all those that have been ensnared by this ungodly dependence on drink, which has too often been the root cause of many ruined lives and numerous dysfunctional families.
We pray that in Your grace and pity You would come alongside these alcoholic sufferers who have this serious dependency on alcohol and ask that You would create in them a dislike and distain for all forms of alcoholic drinks
Lord, You died for each one on the cross for each one is lost and en-route for eternal separation from You, if they do not turn away from their dependency on drink to depend on Christ as Saviour – and Lord we know that in Your power and strength You have all that is needed for each and every sufferer to be set free from this alcoholic dependency.
We pray that in Your grace You would draw many out of this slavery to drink and give them new dependency - trust in Jesus, Who died for all who would believe on His name.. and in Whose name we pray,
Amen
Dear Lord Jesus, we come to You in deep pain and sadness for those we know who are suffering in one way of another due to alcohol abuse. Both those that have been ensnared in their own excessive alcohol addiction and also those that are badly affected by the alcoholic abuse of someone else, a spouse, a parent, a child or a friend.
We know that You love and care for each and every addict and desire that they break free from their addiction. Remind them that Jesus died and rose again so that the power of sin and bondage to all forms of addiction might become ineffective in the life that is focused on the Lord Jesus.
We lift up all those we know who are suffering in any way, due to alcoholic abuse and addiction, especially those that we know personally, and pray that in Your grace and mercy You would do a great work in their lives, enabling those in bondage to break free of their debilitating addiction and those affected by the alcoholism of others to be kept our of harms way. May all come to a saving faith in Jesus and begin to enjoy a close walk with Him. In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Father, I confess that I have allowed myself to become addicted to alcohol, and it is to my shame and sadness that my life is simply spiralling out of control. Lord, I know that in and of myself I am not able to break free of this destructive habit and ask that in Your grace and mercy You would help me to be set free of this ungodly addiction. I ask this simple, yet difficult prayer in the name of Jesus,
Amen.
Heavenly Father, I confess that I have not only hurt other people, and especially those that are close to me, but I have offended You and ignored some of the warnings that I believe were directly or indirectly sent from You. Help me I pray to break free of this ungodly addiction and get on the road to recovery.
Forgive me Lord, for I have sinned against You and ignored the clear teaching of Your Word to live soberly, righteously and in the fear of the Lord and to walk circumspectly before You, as a child of the light. But I come to You in humble submission to ask You to help me to get on the road to addiction recovery, for I know that You have promised to lift-up all who come to You out of the miry pit, even when we have foolishly dug it for ourselves.
Help me be set free from alcohol, putting on the breastplate of righteousness, and for the helmet of salvation in Christ, in Whose name I pray,
Amen.
Father, thank You for all those that are involved in helping others with their addiction to alcohol. We thank You for places like Alcoholic Anonymous and the many Christian ministries and rehab centres that are dedicated to helping men and women recover from this debilitating and distressing addiction, and showing them the love of the Lord Jesus.
Give wisdom, grace and patience to all that are serving in one capacity or another to relieve the distress and devastation that alcoholism leaves in it wake. We pray that You would give them the right words of encouragement and advice to enable those that are addicted to permanently break free of their alcoholism and so live a more meaningful and fruitful life.
We pray that You would not only rescue alcoholic men and women from the depths of despair to which many have fallen, but also that You would raise them up into a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and bring them into newness of life in Him, to His praise and glory. This we ask in Jesus' name,
Amen.
Oh Lord Jesus, how difficult life has become due to my husbands excessive drinking of alcohol, well it is now really become alcohol addiction. Life has become so hard, almost unbearable, and his temper is at times out of control, and Lord, I am beginning to fear for our safety.
Lord, You know that this is splitting our family apart and at times I despair that this addiction to alcohol will ever be overcome. Lord, it has not only affected his moods and his increasingly uncaring attitude toward me, but it is affecting his work and I am wondering if he may actually lose his job as a result of this.
Father, it is painful to see someone You love in this pitiful state and I pray for Your guidance and strength to be able to deal with this in a way that honours You, but also for the wisdom to know what to do and how to help my husband.
Lord, I know that it may be a dangerous prayer to pray, but I ask that whatever it takes You would bring my husband to the point of desperation, where You are the only Person to Whom he can turn, as I know that only You can intervene in this addiction and return him to his normal mind.
Father, at times I feel weak and unable to cope and yet I know that Your strength is made perfect in our weakness. Lord, I know that Your grace is sufficient for me and ask that You would remain close to me, to lead and to guide, so that I would know what to do to help him overcome his alcohol addition and encourage him to turn to Jesus, in Whose name I pray,
Amen.
Dear God, I feel such pain and grief for my precious sister who has become an alcoholic. I am quite shocked and devastated to realise that this dear one has been enticed into this life- destructive behaviour, and I just want to know what to do. I feel so helpless as I watch her sinking more and more into life-style that has robbed her of her lovely personality and happy self.
Please Lord, help her to break free from this alcoholism. It is so painful to know that she is so addicted and I just ask that in Your mercy and love You would help her to break completely free from this horrid habit, and leave it behind her completely.
I want us all to get back to the relationship we had before she started drinking and to restore to her the joy of Your salvation - the joy and peace that she had before this alcoholic addiction too control.
Father, I know that there is no one else who can help her and there will be no freedom from this cursed habit without You intervention and grace. Please, Lord, cause her to see the folly of her way and seek You with all her heart. Thank You that You are a God Who cares - and Who hears and answers the prayers of Your children
Amen
Father, I thank You for the many blessings that You have graciously bestowed on me in such abundance, but Lord my heart aches for my son, who has become so addicted to alcohol that his life seems to be spiralling out of control.
Lord, I am powerless to do anything to help him and he seems so lost and in so pain. I beg You Father to intervene in his life and show us what we can do to get things under control. Help him to break free of this terrible addiction and get back some semblance of normality due to this into this heart-rending situation.
Lord, I know that You have plans for my son and yet he has strayed so far from the path of Your choosing, but Father, I pray that in Your grace and mercy You would show us what to do to help him break free from His addiction to alcohol. Give me the strength of Your mighty power to support his through this difficult time, and help him I pray to break free from his alcoholism. To You be all the praise and glory, in Jesus' name,
Amen.
Oh Lord, I am devastated, as the wife, I love so dearly has become almost estranged from me. She has started drinking.. and it is a habit that is almost out of control.
Forgive me Lord for not seeing the tell-tale signs earlier, but I have been so busy with my work schedule, that I have only really begun to understand the devastating effect that alcohol has had on my dear wife.
I have to call it what it is – alcoholism – and it grieves me that she has changed almost out of recognition and has little interest in the home, or me, or the children – or anything else.
I pray with all my heart that You would help me to help my wife reverse this destructive habit, and return her to the loving, caring wife I remember.
Give me the strength and wisdom to support her so that she may be set free from her alcohol addiction – I believe Your grace is sufficient even to cope with this and I pray that whatever it takes.. You will bring her back from this dependency on drink and to return her into Your loving arms – and mine – this I ask in Jesus name,
Amen
Dear Lord, it is so hard when someone we love gets caught up in an addiction to alcohol.. and when it is a member of your own family it makes it even more hurtful to accept and more difficult to cope with
Lord, You know exactly who I am talking about, and we know that this has been going on for some time now, but it has got to the point where all of us are feeling the pain and hurt that they are going through.
Oh Lord, alcoholism is such a disabling condition as it affects every area of life and is like a virus that spreads out of control, infecting everything that it touches – but we know that there is nothing that cannot be helped and healed by You.. and that nothing is impossible for You.
And so we lift them up to You in prayer and ask that You would convict them of their need to break free from alcohol and the grace to conquer this disabling habit - and so we leave this important matter in Your hands and watch for You to act swiftly - and we will give You all the praise and glory in Jesus name,
Amen
Heavenly Father, I have heard of a dear friend who has become an alcoholic – sadly they drifted into this lifestyle through social drinking, but now it has become habitual and I realise that this is beginning to have a serious impact on their life, and needs to be addressed and dealt with as a matter of urgency.
Lord I am not sure what I do, which is why I am coming to You to ask for Your wisdom and guidance. I am not sure if I should talk to them about this issue or simply keep them covered in prayer… but I do ask for You to intervene in their life and cause them to see the tremendous devastation that is starting to happen.. both in their own lives and in the lives of those around them.
Lead and guide me to say or do what is right and pleasing in Your eyes. Let me not be judgemental but may I be used by You to help my friend to leave this alcoholism behind. May they see the serious consequences that their drinking habit in causing and draw them back into a close relationship with Yourself – in Jesus name I pray,
Amen
Dear heavenly Father, how I thank You for my parents and especially my mother, whom I love so much, and yet Lord You know how she has become entrapped in alcoholism.. and has got to the point where she cannot even face the day without a drink in her hand
Lord, it is so sad to see my mother in this sorry state - for it is not only tearing her apart but the whole family is being affected by her drinking habit, and so I do pray that You will step into her life and help her to break free from this terrible addiction.
Give me the wisdom and understanding to know how to help her through this terrible time in her life.. and I pray that she would return to normality and be able to break free from her binge drinking.
Father, I know that nothing is impossible with You and I commit my mother and her future into Your hands and ask that in Your goodness and grace You would reach down and meet her at her point of need. Help her I pray, to break free forever and to draw close to Christ – Who does not want us to be enslaved by alcohol or drunk with wine but to be filled to overflowing with the Spirit of God. This I ask in Jesus name,
Amen
Loving Heavenly Father, You put us into families and set a father as the leader and role model for each family, but Lord, there are many families that are being torn apart by a husband and father that has become addicted to alcohol.
Knowing the devastating nature of this disease, I pray that You would prompt each one to turn away from this evil habit to become the responsible husband and father that You desire each one to be.
Lord, we know that there are many alcoholic husbands that abuse their wives both physically and emotionally and that many children are also placed in danger due to abuse from an alcoholic father. And also Lord, we know that such drinking habits can often leave families with insufficient money to live on.
Protect all those that are vulnerable from all forms of abuse, and convict such men of the responsibilities of being loving husbands and dependable fathers. Lord, we pray that they turn from their evil ways to turn to the Lord Jesus, knowing that only in You is true freedom found.
Thank You Father. I commit all families that are in this position into Your safe-keeping. In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Dear God, it saddens me so much that my dear brother has become dependent on alcohol and he is so young to have been dragged into this destructive life-style. Lord, it is having a very serious effect on his relationship with his whole family, and he seems to have thrown away his life which was so promising, and it saddens me deeply.
Lord, he seems to have been dragged so deeply into this addiction, that I fear that he is unlikely to emerge from it, but my trust is in You and I pray that in Your love and grace You will reach down and convict him of his need of You and draw him back into a right relationship with You.
Father, I know he needs to take responsibility for this serious addiction, but I know that at times it can be seen as an illness. Look down in pity I pray on my brother, and help him become free. In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen.
Dear Lord Jesus, all forms of addiction ruins so many lives, and addiction to alcohol can cause such devastation in the lives of individuals and their relationships with the family, friends, neighbours and work colleagues.
Dear Lord, I lift up to You all those that have become addicted to alcohol, which Satan so often uses as a tool to damage and destroy the lives of so many people. Lord, I pray for all who have been afflicted with this terrible disease. May they be released from the ruinous way that it affects so many, and be set free of this addiction.
Lord, I know that there is no freedom except in You. I pray that in Your mercy, You would meet each of Your children at their point of need. In the power of the Spirit living within, I pray that they may break free of this destructive addiction.
And Lord for those that are not believers, I ask that in Your grace, You would convict them of their damaging behaviour, both in their own bodies and in the lives of those that they know and love. Turn them away from alcohol addiction to a right relationship with the Lord Jesus, in Whose name I pray,
Amen.
Dear Lord, my boyfriend is an alcoholic and I am so concerned for him. I love him and have tried everything I can think of to get him to turn away from drink, but he takes no notice and I know that things are getting worse. He seems to be getting more and more depressed and I fear for his health and his own safety and even my own safety too.
Lord I have seen the devastation that alcohol can do in families and in relationships, and I want to help him through this - but in my heart I know that there is nothing more that I can do, unless he is prepared to face his alcoholic addiction himself.
Lord show me what to do and I pray that You Who knows the hearts of all men would convict him of his sin and need of Jesus. Lord I love him and don’t want this to drive us apart. Give me the wisdom to know what to do and the grace to do what is best for us all. This I ask in Jesus name,
Amen
Heavenly Father, thank You for helping me along the way to recovery from my addiction to alcohol. Thank You, Father, for lifting me up out of the miry clay, saving me from the pit of despair and setting my feet on solid ground. Thank You, that You cared enough for me to be there throughout my recovery, to uphold me with Your righteous right hand, as You poured out grace and mercy to help in time of need.
I repent of my foolish decline into alcoholism and confess my reluctance to admit that I was getting swept into an increasingly ungodly lifestyle. Forgive my selfish foolishness and thank You from the bottom of my heart for setting me on the right path to freedom in Christ by putting a new song in my mouth, even praise to my God.
Oh the joy and peace of knowing and trusting the Lord Jesus Christ. You have performed wonders in my life and I praise the good work that You are doing in me. Thank You for the freedom I have found in You as You have gently led me along the path to recovery from alcoholism. You are my God and have performed great and mighty wonders in me, and I praise Your holy name for ever and ever,
Amen.
Heavenly Father, so many people have fallen into the devastating, downward spiral of alcoholism, and yet in Your grace and mercy we see so many that are being freed from their addiction to alcohol and many more that are coming to faith the Lord Jesus Christ, as a result of a crisis point in their lives, which has so often taken them to the depths of despair.
Thank You, Lord, for all who have been rescued from alcoholism and for those that have supported them through it. We know that the enemy comes to steal and to kill and to destroy men and women, by enticing them into a life of alcoholism and other evil addictions, but we thank and praise You that Jesus came to destroy the works of the evil one and promised to give life abundantly, to all who trust in Christ as Saviour.
We thank You for all those who are currently being helped to leave their life of alcohol addiction behind, and we pray that each one will come to a saving knowledge of Christ. This we ask in Jesus' name,
Amen.
