Praying through Colossians 1:7

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Epaphras, whose service, prayer, dedication, and faithfulness, demonstrated a life that placed Jesus in His rightful position, and whose desire was the salvation of the lost and the progressive sanctification of his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. I pray that I may seek to share the good news of the gospel with the unsaved, encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ, pray fervently for the spiritual well-being of others, and develop an attitude of humility of heart toward my co-labourers in the gospel. Give me a teachable spirit, keep me from being offended, and enable me to live in the unity of the faith... in the bond of peace with my fellow-labourers in the gospel. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;”

Heavenly Father, I lift my voice in triumphant praise and joyful thanks for Christ’s victory over sin, Satan, death, and hell. Without Christ’s willingness to suffer and die on the Cross on my account, I would still be a slave to sin, under Satan’s dominion, a transgressor of the Law, and estranged from You. But You have set me free, through the shed blood of your dearly beloved Son, by grace through faith, so that I may love and worship You in spirit and in truth. I praise and thank You that You have already disarmed the satanic rulers and authorities and triumphed over them, making them a public example. I pray that I may live my life as unto the Lord. I pray that I may abide in Christ and He in me, and that by Your grace I will mature in the faith and produce much fruit for Your praise and glory, and not only me, but may all those who have been called by Your name, bear much fruit for Your greater praise and glory. Keep me from getting deceived by any appealing philosophies, human commands, or religious procedures, which I realise can so easily pull me into legalistic practices. Heavenly Father, thank You for the teaching in Paul’s letter to the Colossians that denounces the many ways that man-made religions, worldly philosophies, and self-abasement of the flesh, are adopted to give an appearance of holiness while denying the Lord Who bought us. Give me wisdom and discernment to renounce all forms of worldly philosophy and man-made religiosity that give an appearance of holiness and seem to be spiritual yet deny Your Word. Thank You for exposing the endless struggles and tyranny of the self-life, and thank You that my sufficiency is in Christ Jesus My Saviour. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Colossians 3:5

Heavenly Father, how I praise and thank You that my life is hid with Christ in God. Thank You that I am a new creation in Christ and have died to sin and been raised to life, together with Him, in heavenly places. Help me to live as unto the Lord, to lay aside all that is displeasing to You, and to set my mind on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through Colossians 3:6

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am no longer under Your wrath, but by faith have become Your child, and a member of Christ's body. Thank You that He died for my sin and rose again, breaking the power of sin and death in my life, and clothing me in His own righteousness. I pray that I may not be enticed by the things of this world that entrap the sons of disobedience, and pray that Your Holy Spirit would convict many lost souls today of their need of salvation, by faith in Christ. This I ask in His precious name, AMEN.

Praying through Colossians 3:8

Heavenly Father, how clearly Paul shows the shocking way that words that come from our lips can be so dishonouring to You and abusive to others. I pray that the words I speak and the meditation of my heart may be honouring to Your holy name. May my words give encouragement to others and always be spoken in love. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.”

Praying through Colossians 3:9

Heavenly Father, I know that there are many times when the words I have uttered have dishonoured Your name. Forgive me for the times that I have lied, been careless in my speech, engaged in any form of double-talk, or massaged the truth for my own personal gain. I pray that from this day forward, the thoughts that develop in my mind would immediately be taken captive to You so that the words that proceed from my mouth would honour Your name and bring glory to You. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the truth of Your Word. Thank You that old things have passed away and all things have become new in Christ. Thank You that I have been transferred from the kingdom of Satan into the kingdom of Your dear Son, by faith in Him. Thank You that the old, cursed creation has been replaced by a new, perfect creation in Christ and that by faith in Him, I have been transferred from the old creation to the new and am being renewed daily, spirit, soul, and body, until I stand face to face with Jesus, my Rock and my Redeemer. May I live my new life in spirit and truth to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, how I praise and thank You that even though I was dead in trespasses and sins and at enmity with You, I was called by You and chosen to be a child of God and a joint-heir with Christ. Thank You that I am washed in the blood of the Lamb, by grace through faith in Him, and have been made a new creation in Christ and eternally positioned in Him, to Your praise and glory. Praying through Colossians 3:13

Heavenly Father, thank You that I have been forgiven of all my sins and declared to be righteous, by faith in Your dearly beloved Son. I have not always been ready to forgive those that have hurt or injured me, but thank You for freely forgiving me of my sin unconditionally and forever. May I increasingly show forbearance and forgiveness towards my fellow man and readily pardon all who have hurt or harmed me. Develop in me a spirit of gentleness that shows the love of Christ to all with whom I come in contact, and may my life become a reflection of the beautiful love of Christ, Who died so that all who believe in Him might live. Praise Your holy name for all Your goodness and grace towards the children of men. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, I pray that the peace of God would rule in my heart today. Please show me if there is anything in my life that is preventing Your peace from guarding my heart. May all I do in word and deed, be carried out in the name of Jesus and to His praise and glory. Keep my eyes looking to Him and my heart ready to do His will. Thank You, Father, that I am called by His name. Thank You that You Who started a good work in me, will complete it in the day of Christ Jesus. Praying through Colossians 3:20

Heavenly Father, thank You for ordaining that we are placed in families and for guiding us in the biblical roles and responsibilities we have towards one another. Help me to be obedient to You in thought, word, and deed, and help me to be an example of a godly life in my own family and to those in the wider community with whom I come in contact. Thank You for my own parents and thank You that I am Your child. May I live and work to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through Colossians 3:21

Heavenly Father, what a lot there is to assimilate and implement in Paul's simple instruction for father's not to exasperate their children so they will not lose heart. Forgive us for the way we have allowed biblical principles and godly practice to be gradually removed from our homes and Christian churches. Help us individually and corporately to return to the truth of Your Word so that children will understand the need to obey and respect their parents, as parents bring up their children in the fear and nurture of the Lord through wise discipline, gracious encouragement, and godly respect. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, it is too easy to coast along at work and try to get by doing the minimum for my employer. Please change my heart so that whatever job I find myself in, I will work at it wholeheartedly as if I was working for You. May I not seek to please men, but always to please You. I pray that my work ethic would be a witness to draw others to You, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You for this truth, that You are no respecter of persons. Thank You that my salvation does not rely on what I do to please You, but on what Christ has done on my account. Help me to walk in humility of heart and in spirit and truth, irrespective of my circumstances, and enable me to carry out the work that You have given me to do, to Your honour and glory. Heavenly Father, thank You for the inspired Scriptures and the many truths that are contained within its sacred pages. Thank You for men like Paul whom You used to pen the Scriptures and for the truth of the glorious gospel of grace contained within its pages. Thank You for the example of Paul who recognised his responsibility toward his brothers in Christ, and for Nymphas, the believer in Laodicea whose home became the place where Christians met to worship You. Help me to be diligent to meet together with other believers and to study Your Word in spirit and in truth, and I pray that You would use me in whatever way You choose, for Your praise and glory. Praying through Colossians 4:16

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful truths that are set out in the book of Colossians and in all the Holy Scriptures, which guide us into truth, sharpen our resolve to live as Christ lived, and teach us the way we should behave. May I learn to love Your Word, study the Scriptures daily, and show myself approved unto God so that I live as a shining light in this darkened world and do not fall into spiritual complacency. Thank You that the Word of Truth is freely available in my country, knowing that the days are becoming darker. Protect those who have limited access to Scripture, because of oppressive governments and ungodly laws. May we all grow in grace as we watch for the any-day return of the Lord Jesus for His Church. I ask this in His precious name, AMEN.
