Praying through 1 Thessalonians 1:1

Heavenly Father, thank You for the amazing truth in this little verse of Scripture, that by grace through faith, we are positioned in God the Father and also in the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You that I am safe in Your hand and that nothing in heaven above or the earth beneath, can separate me from the love of God which is mine by faith in Jesus. Thank You that I have peace with God through faith in Christ and access to the peace of God in my heart. And thank You for the lives and faithful witness of Paul, Silas, and Timothy, whose examples I can learn so much from. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 1:2

Heavenly Father, how grateful I am to have the inspired Scriptures as a mirror through which I am enabled to see the things I need to do to honour Your name. I pray that I may remain firm in the faith, grow in love, and rejoice in the blessed hope that I have in Christ. Thank You for the privilege of prayer and for the wonderful witness of Paul’s powerful praying. I pray that my intercessions and prayers may be guided by You, as I look for that glorious day when Christ comes for His Church. May we all be sanctified entirely, spirit, soul, and body, and be made complete and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, in Whose name I pray, AMEN.

“We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 1:3

Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder I gain from the lives of the Thessalonian Christians whose work of faith, labour of love, and steadfast hope in the Lord Jesus Christ, is such a beautiful example of godly living that honours You. I pray that I may grow in grace and in a knowledge of Christ Jesus my Saviour and do all for Your greater praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 1:4

Heavenly Father, how I praise and thank You for the wonderful truth that I was chosen in Christ from before the foundation of the world, to be one of Your elect. Thank You that everyone born of woman, has the opportunity to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. I praise You, that You do not exclude anyone who truly turns to You for salvation, that it is not Your will that anyone should be lost, and that Your Holy Spirit continues to convict man of sin, righteousness, and judgement. May we who have been saved by grace through faith in Christ, be ready and willing to be a good testimony to all with whom we come in contact so that others may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 1:5

Heavenly Father, thank You for the inspired Word of God in the gospels and epistles, that tell of the good news of the gospel of Christ. Thank You that the Word of truth has been passed down, through generations of believers who have faithfully shared the good news. Thank You for those who shared the gospel with me, and I pray that I too would share the truth of the gospel for the benefit of others, in word, in deed, in the power of the indwelling Spirit, and for Your eternal glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 1:6

Loving Father, I long to walk in spirit and truth in the power of Your Holy Spirit, so that I decrease in my own importance and Christ increases in my life, to become all in all. May the joy of the Lord be my strength in all the difficulties and trials of life, so that Christ is seen in me and others may be drawn to Him through my witness. This I pray in Jesus’s name, AMEN.

“And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 1:10

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your great and precious promises. Thank You that I have been saved by grace through faith in Christ, from the wrath to come and that one day I will be with Him in heaven. Thank You that I am not appointed to wrath, but that Christ took the full force of Your fury against my sin on the Cross of Calvary. May I never forget what it cost my Saviour to be Your sacrificial Lamb and my sin-substitute. He alone is worthy of all praise and thanksgiving. In His name I pray, AMEN.

“And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 2:3

Heavenly Father, thank You for the ministry and mission of Paul and thank You for the faithful saints that have been used to bring the gospel down two thousand years of history, to me so that by grace through faith in Christ's sacrificial death and glorious resurrection, I have been born again into the family of God. Use me, I pray, just as You used Paul to tell forth the good news of the gospel, and enable me to stand firm in the faith, no matter what accusations may be made against me. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:”

Dear Lord, thank You that I have been rescued from enslavement to sin and brought into Your heavenly kingdom and eternal glory. I pray that I may be a worthy witness of Your grace and goodness to all those with whom I come in contact today. Enable me, in the power of Your Spirit, to tread each step of my earthly walk in a manner that is well-pleasing to You. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 2:19

Heavenly Father, what rejoicing there is over one sinner who repents and turns to Christ, for the forgiveness of sin and life everlasting. How I rejoice in my great salvation and thank You, Father, for the people in my life, who faithfully shared the gospel with me, prayed for my salvation, ministered to me, and pointed me to the Lord Jesus Christ, my God, and my Saviour. I pray that I would take every opportunity to testify to the truth of the gospel to people in my life, so that they may become my "Crown of Rejoicing", and I will join the heavenly throng in casting my crown at Your feet, for You alone are worthy of all honour and praise, both now and in the ages to come. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?”

Heavenly Father, I praise and thank You for the great encouragement, strength, and instruction we receive from the letters of Paul to the church at Thessalonica. Thank You for giving us Your Word. I pray that You would teach me through Your Word, and train me how to grow in grace, to live by faith, and to pray in the spirit. In the power of the Holy Spirit, I ask You to guide and direct me today, in all that I say and think and do. I pray I may live a sanctified life and walk in a worthy manner that brings glory to You. Keep me mindful of Paul’s teachings on living a spiritual life, and may I be a witness of Your grace to all with whom I come in contact. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 4:3

Heavenly Father, thank You for Paul's important teaching on positional and ongoing, practical sanctification, and the need to be holy and pure in thought, word, deed, and motive. Keep me from every sort of ungodly activity and any sexual immorality. I pray that I may dedicate my life to Your service and present my body as a living sacrifice to You, holy and acceptable in Your service. Thank You that I am already positionally sanctified, by faith in the sacrificial work of Christ on the Cross, and I pray for my ongoing, practical sanctification. Transform me, day by day, into the image and likeness of the lovely Lord Jesus. This I ask in His precious name and for His name's sake, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You that I have everything I need for life and godliness. Keep me pure in thought, word, and deed, and give me the strength to live in this earthly vessel in a manner that pleases You and honours Your name. Thank You that I have the indwelling Holy Spirit and that my body is a temple of God. May I grow in grace, abide in Christ, and possess this bodily vessel in sanctification. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 4:5

Heavenly Father, I praise and thank You for the many truths contained in the Scripture and the many lessons You want to teach me through the epistles of Paul and the other apostles of Christ. Give me ears that are willing to hear Your voice, eyes to see what You want me to see, and a teachable heart that is open to the challenges You give me. I confess, there have been times when I have left my first love and strayed back into the ways of the world. I pray that You would search my heart and cleanse me within, and keep me walking on the road of righteousness, for His name's sake, AMEN.

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 4:6

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wake-up call that there are many ways that I can defraud someone, in thought, word, and deed. I seek to live in purity of heart and walk in spirit and in truth, for Your glory and the benefit of my neighbour. Forgive me for the times when I have not lived according to Your perfect will. Keep me from falling into sin, and may I never forget that there are consequences to all wrongdoing and that You are a God Who is the Avenger in all things. Thank You, Lord, that there is no sin so great that it cannot be forgiven. I confess before You my hidden sins, and thank You for the forgiveness of sin and life everlasting. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Teach Me To Abide In You

Oh, thank You Lord Jesus, my heavenly Vine, for the fullness of Your blessing towards me. I want to know and understand more and more of what it means to simply rest in You. May I abide in You, in sweet union with my Saviour and remain in blessed communion with You in ever closer intimacy.

Teach me, Lord, and train me to rest in Your love. Guard me and guide under the shelter of Your canopy, and reveal more and more of Yourself to me I pray,

Amen.

Heavenly Father, what a wonderful message is contained in this beautiful passage of Scripture. Thank You that You caused Paul to teach this glorious truth so clearly and simply to the dear believers in Thessalonica. Thank You that I am a member of Christ’s Body and am not appointed to wrath, because Jesus took all the punishment that I deserve upon Himself so that I might be forgiven of my sin and not fall under Your righteous judgement. I pray that as the day for Christ’s return approaches, when He will gather His saints, both living and dead to Himself, that I will ready. Thank You that this day will not come on me like a thief in the night, as it does for the unbeliever. Thank You for telling us the end from the beginning.
