Prayer for 1 Timothy

Choose Chapter

Heavenly Father, thank that You that You are my God and my Saviour and that You sent the Lord Jesus into the world to die as my Kinsman-Redeemer Who gave His life to redeem the world so that by faith in Him I have been saved. Thank You for the work of the Holy Spirit, within my heart. I pray that increasingly I may become more like Jesus my God and my Saviour in Whose name I pray, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace, mercy and peace, which you have bestowed on all Your children who walk in humility of heart, gentleness of spirit and desire a knowledge of the truth. Thank You that I am Your child, through faith in Christ Jesus my Lord and I pray that my faith would be strengthened and perfected as I die to self and live for Christ alone. Thank You for the ministry of Paul and the other apostles of Christ and help me to stand fast in the evil day and grow in grace and in a knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, in Whose name I pray, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, when I consider how seriously a Christian's spiritual growth can be impeded by false doctrine and how deeply entrenched many unscriptural teachings have become within churches today, I pray that in Your goodness and grace You would expose false teachers and their demonic doctrines, which have affected so many church members. Give discernment to all Your children and we ask that you would give elders and pastor-teachers the discernment to identify unscriptural dogma and root out and expose certain men and women, who are doing such tremendous damage to the body of Christ. Give me discernment I pray and help me to be vigilant and stand firm in the faith, for Your honour and glory - this I ask in Jesus' name and for Your greater glory, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, I increasingly see that dangers caused by false teachings in the early church are equally concerning in Christendom today. Thank You for Your word and the many warnings it gives, to avoid the evil and do all that is well-pleasing to the Lord. Help me to be discerning in my life and never to pay attention to the fanciful myths and unbiblical philosophies that are becoming so popular today. Help me keep the focus of my heart on JESUS. Keep me from falling into the trap of dismissing the destructive element in things like myths and mere speculation, which can become such a hindrance to spiritual growth and the spread of the gospel. Keep me low at the cross and humble before You and help me to translate biblical truth into practical application, for You greater glory, this I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, it is a sad state of affairs to realise that moral relativity has replaced the Word of truth in our modern culture. Forgive us Lord, for allowing the philosophies of fallen man to have so quickly infiltrated society in general and the church in particular. Forgive us for allowing so much humanistic reasoning and unbiblical trends to enter Christendom. Be merciful, we pray, and bring us back to the objective truth of Your Word. This we ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

Glory to God in the highest for Your plan of salvation and praise Your holy name that I have become Your child, simply because I trusted in the saving work of Christ on Calvary. Thank You for laying out Your wonderful plan in such simple terms that even I can understand it. In His name I fully accept this glorious, trustworthy truth - enable me to be a worthy witness of Your great redeeming sacrifice for the whole world, that whosoever-will may be saved. Use me Lord as Your witnessing voice in the world today, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift and privilege of prayer. It is amazing to realise that by faith in Christ's sacrificial work on the cross I have been given access into the very throne room of almighty God - to intercede on behalf of others, and to offer my prayers and supplications to You. Teach me to pray aright and help me to develop an ongoing attitude of prayerful thanksgiving and reverential praise - for You alone are worthy, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are a God Who hears and answers the prayers of Your children that are offered in humility of heart and a trusting, dependent faith. We lift up the leaders of our own nation and pray that You would hear our plea for godly leadership. Forgiven us, that as a nation, we have strayed so far from You, and we ask that in Your grace, You would give us leaders that trust Your name and honour Your laws. Lord we acknowledge that until Jesus is reigning as King of kings, the world cannot live in peace and safety, but we pray, that in Your grace, You would give us and our children - and our children's children, a quiet life, in all godliness and dignity with leaders that will not compromise the truth of the Your Word - this we ask in Jesus name. AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wise instruction Paul has given to Timothy on the importance and effectiveness of prayer. Help me to pray at all times and to intercede for all men – in spirit, in truth and without ceasing. Help me to be alert to the rising prayer needs in my own life and people around the world and give me a heart to intercede for all men everywhere – for kings, princes, presidents and leaders, in both the political and spiritual realm and thank You Lord, that You are a God who hears and answers the prayers of the righteous. Thank You in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

Loving Father, thank You for making salvation so simple. I confess that sometimes I complicate Your amazing gift of salvation, which is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful way that You have ordained the roles and responsibilities of Christian men and women to complement one another, and to reflect the relationship between Christ and the Church. Heavenly Father, forgive us for the current, frenzied mindset of 'women's lib" and women's rights, which has caused complete confusion in many of our Churches and Christian communities. Forgive us for interpreting Your Word with liberal glasses - which consider biblical truth to be outdated and irrelevant... or for teaching it with a legalistic mindset - where women are either elevated into unbiblical roles within the Church or prevented from engaging in any form of service to God and others. Thank You that You determined an order in creation; in our homes; in the wider community and within our Church fellowships. May the people Who are called by Your name reject the world's mindset and return to reading Your word in spirit and in truth - this we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Prayer Accountability in a Christian Home

Loving Lord, You have placed us all in families and have, by Your own authority, established Your own statutes and laws. Thank You for placing us all in families and for my own family, in particular.

Thank You for the clarity with which You have taught us in Your word how that family that is seeking to do Your will, behaves… and the rolls that each of us holds within our own special family unit.

Thank You Lord, that You are our Father and have authorised the man of the home to take the place of authority, as the head of the family - just as You yourself are the Head of the family of God. May the men who are in this responsible role behave in a manner that is pleasing to You, by treating their wives with love and respect and their children with loving discipline and wise counsel. May they each become men after Your own heart as they assume their God-given role in their own homes.

May wives be gentle and gracious and willing to act in the crucial role of helper that You, Yourself have graciously placed them – may wives reflect the great love that Christ had for the Father and the sweet gentleness of the Holy Spirit – just as Jesus demonstrated these qualities in His own life… by submitting graciously to the Father’s will and desiring to do only those things that are pleasing to Him Give wives wisdom in the way that they behave towards their men-folk and may they grow in grace more and more as they walk in the steps of the lovely Lord Jesus Christ – Who was so full grace and truth.

Thank You for the heritage and gift of children, who we understand are a gift from God – a gift that has been lent from the Lord and a gift that You have graciously placed in so many families. And we pray that You would give all parents the grace and wisdom to teach and discipline their children in loving-kindness– and may the children themselves respect their parents and recognise the privilege they have in being part of a godly family unit. Loving Lord thank You for my family – and into YOUR hands I commit my family, from this day forward, even for evermore.

“A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;”

Heavenly Father, thank You for the clear, biblical guidelines on the role of elders and overseers in the Church. We pray for all who are called into Church leadership, that they may endeavour to live godly lives - as outlined in the first book of Timothy. Grant them wisdom and grace to manage their own households in godly fear, and we pray that they may translate these practices into the caring supervision of their congregations. Keep them from the many fleshly pitfalls that could harm their testimony, and may all Your children seek to live godly in Christ Jesus - to His praise and glory - this I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the Word of God and the wonderful truths that are contained within its pages. Thank You that I have everything I need to live a pure and holy life and have been taught how to conduct myself in this fallen world system. I praise You that by faith in Christ I am a member of the household of God and part of the Body of Christ - which is identified at “the Church of the living God'. Help me to stand firm in these evil days and be a strong and established pillar of truth, that points lost sinners to Christ - Who is the source, the seal and the consummation of our faith - and in Whose name I pray, AMEN.

Heavenly Father thank You that I am in Christ and that through His death and resurrection I have been made a new creation.. and have received His life within. Thank You that the Word of God became incarnate and was manifest in the flesh in the person of Christ. Thank You for revealing the truth of the glorious gospel in the written word of God and thank You that for bestowing on all Your children the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. I pray that I may show forth the love of Christ in all I say and do - to His praise and glory, AMEN.

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for this serious and important warning. I recognise how quickly I can be distracted from the truth of Your Word, enticed away into worldly pursuits or rendered spiritually impotent by doctrines of demons. Keep me I pray, and those that I love, from the wiles of the enemy. Give us spiritual discernment, and a determination to stand fast in the faith, to Your praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, I realise how important it is to have a thorough and correct understanding of the Word of God, for without it I am vulnerable to apostate teachers and the wiles of the enemy, who delights to shipwreck the faith of believers and render their lives powerless and unfruitful. Help me to be a vigilant student of Scripture and give me discernment to detect any attacks of the enemy in my life or the lives of other believers. We pray for protection over vulnerable Christians, who may be deceived by the hypocritical lies of apostate teachers and pray that in Your grace You would raise up men who will stand firm on God’s Word and speak the truth in love – this we ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;”

Thank You for my health and my home. Thank You for my family and my friends. Thank You for the many good gifts that You have been pleased to bestow on all Your children. Prayer For The Church To Be Sanctified

Father, we pray that as members of the body of Christ we may learn to be imitators of You and to walk in love, with one another.. just as the Lord Jesus Christ loved us and gave Himself as an offering and sweet-smelling sacrifice - holy and acceptable to God.

Thank You Father that in Christ we are children of the light. May we walk in the light of the Lord, Who is the Way, the Truth, the Light and the Life - and Lord we know that Your purpose for the Church is to transform each one into the likeness of the Lord Jesus – until He is all in all.

We pray that as member of His body we may walk in all goodness and righteousness and live a life that is honoring to You. Teach us we pray to do only those things that are pleasing in Your sight and we ask that every member of the body of Christ may be sanctified – set apart unto You and cleansed with the washing of the water by the word of God, and made holy in thought word and deed.

We pray that the Church may be purified by the Spirit of power, so that she may be without spot or wrinkle or any such thing – but holy and blameless before You in love – We ask this in Jesus name

“For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and for the truth that it contains. Thank You that in the Scriptures I have all that I need for the clear teachings on salvation, justification, sanctification, propitiation and many other important Christian doctrines. I pray that I may yearn for Your Word of truth as a baby craves for milk so that in Christ I may grow in grace and mature in my Christian life and not be misled by false doctrines and unbiblical teachings - to Your honour and glory. This I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

That They Learn To Trust Jesus as Saviour

Heavenly Father I lift us each of my grandchildren to You and thank You for each life that is so special in Your sight. Lord I pray that each one will come to know Christ as Saviour early in their lives and desire a close walk with You through their teens and twenties and into adulthood.

May they learn to love Your Word and to come to know the value of prayer in their lives so that they grow up into men and women that live godly in Christ Jesus,

Lord I pray that all of us that have a touch on these young lives will teach them day by day about the Lord Jesus and the wonderful truths in Your Word – both in word and by example - just as the mother and grandmother of Timothy taught him the truth of the Word of God. Guide each of my precious grandchildren into all truth and bring them into true saving faith I pray… for You have promised that children that are brought up in the way that they should go will not depart from it as they grow older..

Keep each one I pray under the shadow of Your protection and love and may they grow in grace and discernment and wisdom throughout their lives – and use each one I pray in Your service I pray, to Your praise and glory, in Jesus name I pray,

“For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.”

Purity Prayer To Reflect The Love of God

Thank You Father God that I have been made clean through the blood of my Saviour Jesus Christ. Thank You that my sins have been washed away forever, and I pray that as I live the Christian life I may be continuously cleansed through the washing of the Word of God – for Your Word is pure and wholesome – Your Word is light and life.. Sanctify me by Your Word of grace I pray.

Help me to look deeply into Your Word of truth, knowing that the more that I am washed and cleansed by the written Word of God, the more I will come to see the lovely face of the living Word of God- my beautiful Saviour - Jesus Christ my Lord

I pray that my heart and mind may be purified daily but the cleansing flood that comes from You and I pray that rivers of living water may flow from You through me to others – so that I may reflect the love of God in my life and point others to Christ. May the face of Jesus my Saviour be the only thing that others see in me – for I must decrease so that He may increase – I ask this in Jesus name

To Walk Close to Thee

O God, our Father, help us to see ourselves as children who seek guidance; children who walk in the midst of many dangers.

Help us not to be afraid so long as we walk close to Thee. Thy ways, O God are higher than our ways and often we do not understand. Teach us, O God, that we do not have to understand but to trust and Thou wilt see us through every difficulty in life.

When Thou art near, I am not afraid, I want to “draw nigh to God” in the assurance that when I do, He will “draw nigh unto me,”

In Jesus’ name,

“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”

Prayer Of Gratitude For Parents

Dear heavenly Father, how I thank and praise You for my parents who have been so faithful in loving and caring for me with such selflessness. I am so grateful that I was their child and that You saw fit for me to become part of their family.
I know that so often I have taken them for granted and have not been as helpful as I should, but their constant love and support throughout my life has become such a wonderful example of parenthood and I am so grateful for them both.
Draw close to them I pray and surround them with Your loving arms. Bless them with both health and contentment and be to them a tower of strength, as the both are getting a little older. I ask this in Jesus name,

“But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.”
