Prayer for Lamentations

Choose Chapter

Heavenly Father, as we read through the prophetic voice of Jeremiah and his lament over Jerusalem, we are able to have a glimpse into the terrible events that overtook Your chosen people, who chose to follow the path of spiritual adultery rather than obeying Your commands and trusting Your word. Help me learn the lessons from Israel's failure and trust Your word; obey Your voice and walk in spirit and truth. We thank You that You have told us the end from the beginning and that in Your wrath You will remember mercy - thank You that the day is coming when Israel will repent of their sin and be restored as a nation - but we pray that many would recognise Jesus as Messiah and Lord and come to faith in Him, today - this we ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! how is she become as a widow! she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary!”

Heavenly Father, thank You for the book of Lamentations and the many lessons we learn from its pages. May I never fail to view the terrible consequences of sin and the unspeakable torture and pain that was so severely dealt out to the Lord Jesus on my behalf.. as the full force of God's terrible wrath was poured out upon Him, in my stead. Keep me low at the cross and broken before You and may my heart be ever grateful for all that He did for me at Calvary - it is in His name I pray, AMEN.

Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the LORD hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.”

Heavenly Father, how I praise and thank You that you are a gracious, loving and long-suffering God. Help me not to be influenced by the circumstances of my life but rather help me to keep the eyes of my heart on You, knowing that Your plans and purposes are perfect. Thank You Father for Your steadfast love towards all Your children - which is new every morning. All glory to Your holy name, AMEN.

It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.”

Heavenly Father, there are times when it seems that I am alone as I face life's difficulties, mourn over the spiritual decline that is overtaking the Church today - and grieve to see the shocking evil that is saturating the world. Thank You Lord that I am not alone, but am one of a remnant of believers who desires to do Your will. Thank You that Your mercies are new every morning and that You are building-up Your church, to Your praise and glory, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

“The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.”

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for Your unconditional love; Your goodness and Your loving-kindness to me and to all that are called by Your name. Great is Your faithfulness and I praise You - for You alone are worthy. Keep me low at the cross and help me to patiently wait for You in humble submission to Your Holy Spirit by trusting Your word of grace, even when I don’t understand – for You ARE good to those who wait for You. Help me to seek You with all my heart, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

“The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many lessons that You are teaching me through the thing I may be called upon to suffer in this life. Help me to learn all lessons You desire to teach me, knowing that Your mercies are new every morning and that Your love and faithfulness never fails. I pray that I may trust You implicitly in all the difficult circumstances of life that I may be called upon to face.. and help me to wait quietly for Your sure deliverance - to You be all praise and glory, AMEN.

It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.”

Thank You Father that if and when suffering crosses my path - whether through my disobedience or because I am called upon by You to suffer for Christ's sake - thank You that Your mercies are not consumed and Your compassion never fails according to Your abundant and faithful love. Praise God in Jesus name, AMEN.

“But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.”
