Prayer for 1 Peter

Choose Chapter

Heavenly Father, thank You for the life and ministry of Peter and all your apostles and prophets who penned the scriptures for our learning. As I read and study Your word, I pray that You would give me a teachable spirit and a desire to learn the truth of the gospel of Christ and not to read it with any unscriptural bias or learned prejudice. Guide me into all truth; equip me with discernment; prevent me from accepting any unbiblical interpretation - and I pray that I may grow in grace and in a knowledge of my Lord and Saviour. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Prayer To Be Set Free For Anger And Bitterness

Loving Lord I place that anger and bitterness that I too often harbour in my heart at Your feet and pray that in Your grace You will expose all that is causing the bitter poison that is lodged within my heart to surface so often - and set me free from it, I pray.

Lord I confess all my anger and bitterness and know that when I allow this to surface in my heart it breaks the fellowship we have together. I know that when I confess my anger You are faithful and just to forgive the outbursts of anger in my heart and to cleanse me of all unrighteousness, for which I praise Your name. But Lord I desire that I am set free from this pollution within my heart so that the root of anger shrives us within - and ask You to examine me and root out all that is not pleasing in Your sight

Thank You in Jesus name,

Anen

To Be Freed From My Burdensome Addiction

Dear Lord Jesus, my addiction is a terrible burden and a such a shame to me and yet I find myself constantly returning to behaviours that I hate and long to be able to shed. I am so ashamed Lord and yet I know that You were the One Who said that You came to set the captives free – and Lord I am a captive. I am a captive and slave of this terrible addiction and yet to long to be freed and to live a normal life.

Free me Lord I pray from this compulsion for it is stifling my life and has cost me many dear friends as well as my job – but I long to be free to live as I ought.

I have heard the gospel and I do believe that Jesus died to take the full punishment for all my sins, including my addiction and I believe that He rose the third day, which broke the power of death in the lives of all who believe – so I am coming to you to ask You Lord to give me the abundant life that You have promised. I know that eternal life is now my portion but I pray that I may be free of my addiction in this life so that I may serve You as You deserve, I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Amen

Thank You for the illustration of Noah, who remained safe IN the Ark from the destructive flood-waters of judgement and that I have been “baptised into Christ’s body” by the power of the Spirit and am identified with His death, burial and resurrection. Thank You that His death became MY death and His burial became MY burial and that through Christ’s resurrection, I have a received a good conscience before God. May I walk daily in newness of life for Your honour and glory – this I ask in Jesus’ name, AMEN.

“The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:”

Heavenly Father, that You for the wonderful example of Christ Jesus my Lord, Who came to earth to identify with my sin and suffering in the flesh.. on my account, so that I might be saved by faith in His sacrificial work on the cross. I pray that I may develop the same resolve to live holy unto the Lord, knowing that He has... not only paid for my sin - but has also broken the power of sin in my life. Praise His holy name. Thank You in Jesus name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and the wonderful truth.. and wise instruction it contains. Thank You that I am a new creation in Christ and am an alien and stranger in a lost and dying world. I pray that I may live my life in a way that is honouring to You and that I may resist the devil and abstain from all forms of worldly pursuits, evil desires, sensual passions and carnal cravings.. May my life be a living sacrifice that is holy and honouring unto the Lord and a witness of Your goodness and grace to others - to Your greater praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

For The Hard Times That I Am Facing Today

Lord I am facing such hard times – times that have become much more difficult with each passing day and at times I get quite anxious and afraid, wondering how we are going to manage.

Lord I know that You have promised to care for all Your children – but there are so many… I don’t understand how You can care for us all… nevertheless I want to trust You to keep Your word because You have promised – and You are faithful to keep Your promises.

Thank You Lord that You are my light and my salvation. I know that there is nothing to worry about when You are my strength and stay – Lord I believe that there is nothing that You cannot do – please help my unbelief Lord Jesus, for I know that when You are the stronghold of my life there is nothing of which to be afraid…

Thank You Lord

Amen

Heavenly Father, thank You that I have been saved by grace through faith and recognise that too much time has already been spent in doing activities that are not edifying or honouring to You. Help me to set aside all the things that hinder my spiritual growth and keep me from being enticed back into any ungodly activities. This I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of an angry God. It is terrible to realise that those who have not accepted Your offer of salvation and trusted Christ, for the forgiveness of sins, will one day stand before You, to give a full account of themselves. Give me a heart for the lost I pray, and fill me with compassion for those that malign and abuse me. Help me to show the love of Jesus to those who persecute me, and enable me to share the gospel of grace, in word and in deed.. knowing that Your blood was spilt for everyone - for the remission of sins and life everlasting. This I ask in Jesus precious name, AMEN.

Father I thank You for giving me the understanding that only as I remain in Christ can I practice self-controlled godly conduct, and maintain fellowship with You, for it is only through His righteousness that I can approach Your throne of grace and pray effectively. May Your will be done in my life and reflected in my prayers, in Jesus name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, there is a part of me that wants to have a nice easy, trouble-free existence and yet I know that this life is a training ground to draw me closer to You and to conform me day by day into the likeness of Christ. May I not be surprised at the fiery ordeals that I am called upon to endure, but embrace them as Your gracious child-training programme to make me more like Christ - so that I may be used in this sin-sick world to comfort others with the same comfort that I receive from You - this I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

Thank You Father that I am part of the mystical Body which is the Church and that I am in union with the Lord Jesus. Thank You that He understands all that I am facing in my life today and that I am a partaker in His sufferings. Help me to keep the eternal perspective ever in my sights, and I praise Your name for the blessed hope and glorious future that You have purposed for me, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the Lord Jesus Christ and all that He has done for me. Thank You that in Him I have eternal life and am secure in Your hands – no matter what I may have to suffer in this life. Thank You that by His blood I have been fully and finally redeemed and forgiven of my sin. I pray that those who have abused me and cause me to suffer, may be convicted of their sin and come to a saving faith in Christ. Thank You that Your grace is sufficient for everything I may have to face and I pray that my life may bring honour to You, not only in this life but in the eternal ages to come, this I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, it is a terrible thing to end this life without having trusted Christ as Redeemer and Lord. Thank You that He underwent Your fierce judgement of my sin - in my place, so that I might be conformed into His image and likeness through the trials and tribulations of this present age. We pray for the multitudes that still have not trusted Christ for their salvation and pray that even today, many would put their faith in Christ and escape eternal separation from You - this we ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, Thank You that by faith, I have been identified with the Lord Jesus Christ, and have become one of Your children. Father I entrust my life into Your hands, knowing that for Christ's sake, I will be hated of all men. Thank You that You sent Christ to go to the cross, and to suffer on my account. Give me the grace to endure suffering for His sake, and may my life be a witness to Your goodness and grace, in a world that is lying in the evil one. Into Your hands I commit my soul, and thank You Lord, that my citizenship is in heaven. But while I am on earth, may I walk in spirit and truth, and live a life that is pleasing to You in Jesus name I pray, AMEN

Heavenly Father, thank You for these instructions to church enders, to feed the flock of God with sound, biblical doctrine, and to take responsibility for the nurturing and encouragement of our brothers and sisters in Christ. Help each one of us to grow in grace and in a knowledge of You, and may all Your children live humbly, and walk circumspectly, before You, throughout our Christian life. Thank You Father... and that You are no respecter of persons and are ready to use any one of us, who is willing to be used and looking to Jesus, as the Author and Finisher of our faith - even me. Give me opportunities to shepherd and nurture those that are weaker in the faith than I, and excite in me a desire to learn from elders and officials in the church, who are fulfilling their God-given role, within the body of Christ. Give me a spirit of humility and grace to finish the race that is set before me - and may all I do be done to Your greater praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.
