Prayer for 1 Peter 4

Praying through 1 Peter 4:1

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful example of Christ Jesus my Lord Who came to earth to identify with my sin and suffered in the flesh on my account so that I might be saved by faith in His sacrificial work on the Cross. I pray that I may develop the same resolve to live holy unto the Lord, knowing that He has not only paid for my sin, but has also broken the power of sin in my life. Praise His holy name. Thank You in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:2

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and the wonderful truth.. and wise instruction it contains. Thank You that I am a new creation in Christ and am an alien and stranger in a lost and dying world. I pray that I may live my life in a way that is honouring to You and that I may resist the devil and abstain from all forms of worldly pursuits, evil desires, sensual passions and carnal cravings.. May my life be a living sacrifice that is holy and honouring unto the Lord and a witness of Your goodness and grace to others - to Your greater praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:4

Heavenly Father, thank You that I have been saved by grace through faith. I recognise that too much time has already been spent in doing activities that are not edifying or honouring to You. Help me to set aside all the things that hinder my spiritual growth and keep me from being enticed back into any ungodly activities. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:5

Heavenly Father, it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. It is terrible to realise that those who have not accepted Your offer of salvation and trusted Christ for the forgiveness of sins, will one day stand before You to give a full account of themselves. Give me a heart for the lost, I pray, and fill me with compassion for those that malign and abuse me for Your sake. Help me to show the love of Jesus to those who persecute me and enable me to share the gospel of grace to everyone, knowing that Your blood was spilt for everyone for the remission of sins and life everlasting. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:7

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for giving me the understanding that only as I remain in Christ can I practice self-controlled godly conduct, and maintain fellowship with You, for it is only through His righteousness that I can approach Your throne of grace and pray effectively. Keep me I pray, looking to Jesus as I wait for His imminent return. Keep me sound in judgement, sober in spirit, and use me I pray, to share the good news of the glorious gospel with lost souls in need of salvation. I pray that Your will be done in my life, and that godly wisdom and understanding would be reflected in my prayers and praises. This I ask in Jesus' name, and for His greater glory, AMEN.

“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:8

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unconditional and unrestricted forgiveness. Thank You that as far as the east is from the west, is the distance that my sins have been removed from me. Thank You for this truth, that love covers a multitude of sins. I pray that I would not misuse this verse and simply tolerate all sin, or wink at sin, but love as Christ loved me, loving and forgiving in grace and truth. I pray, that I may reflect Christlikeness in all my dealings with others, so that the glory goes to You. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:10

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit and for the spiritual gifts that I have been given by Your goodness and grace. I pray that I may be diligent to use the gifts and graces that have been given to me for the benefit of the Body of Christ and for Your greater praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:12

Heavenly Father, there is a part of me that wants to have a nice, easy, trouble-free existence and yet I know that this life is a training ground to draw me closer to You and to conform me, day by day, into the likeness of Christ. May I not be surprised at the fiery ordeals that I am called upon to endure, but embrace them as Your gracious child training programme to make me more like Christ. Use me in this sin-sick world to comfort others with the same comfort that I receive from You. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:13

Thank You, Father, that I am part of the Mystical Body of Christ, which is the Church, and that I am in union with the Lord Jesus. Thank You that He understands all that I am facing in my life today and that I am a partaker in His sufferings. Help me to keep an eternal perspective ever in my sights, and I praise Your name for the blessed hope and glorious future that You have purposed for all Your people. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:14

Heavenly Father, thank You that Christ identified with me so that I can be identified with Him. If, by identifying with Him and lifting His name high I suffer, may I not be ashamed but count it as a sweet blessing. I want to know Him more, to know the power of His Resurrection, and to participate in His sufferings so that I may become more like Him in His death. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:15

Heavenly Father, thank You for the important perspective Peter gives about suffering for righteousness' sake. May I rejoice in the blessing when I face problems and persecution because I am a Christian. But, if my un-Christlike behaviour and lifestyle causes me problems and suffering, may I be quick to repent and make right the wrongs I have done. I pray that I may eschew all evil works of darkness and honour His name in all I say and do, from this day forward. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:16

Heavenly Father, thank You for the Lord Jesus Christ and all that He has done for me. Thank You that in Him, I have eternal life and am secure in Your hands, no matter what I may have to suffer in this life. Thank You that by His blood, I have been fully and finally redeemed and forgiven of my sin. I pray that those who abuse me and cause me to suffer because of my faith in Jesus, may be convicted of their sin and come to a saving faith in Christ. Thank You that Your grace is sufficient for everything I may have to face. May my life bring honour to You. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:17

Heavenly Father, it is a terrible thing to end this life without having trusted Christ as Redeemer and Lord. Thank You that He underwent Your fierce judgement of my sin in my place so that I might be saved. I pray for the multitudes that still have not trusted Christ for their salvation and that even today, many would put their faith in Christ and escape eternal separation from You. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?”

Praying through 1 Peter 4:19

Heavenly Father, thank You that by faith, I have been identified with the Lord Jesus Christ, and have become one of Your children. Father, I entrust my life into Your hands, knowing that for Christ's sake, I will be hated of all men. Thank You that You sent Christ into the world to go to the Cross, and to suffer on my account. Give me the grace to endure suffering for His name's sake, and may my life be a witness to Your goodness and grace, in a world that is lying in the grasp of the evil one. Into Your hands I commit my soul, and thank You, Father, that my citizenship is in heaven. But while I am on earth, may I walk in spirit and truth, and live a life that is pleasing to You. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.”
