Praying through Jonah 1:3

Heavenly Father, I fear I am too ready and willing to criticise the behaviour of people like Jonah, who tried to circumnavigate Your Word in order to escape carrying out Your plans and purposes. Forgive me for the times I have turned a deaf ear to Your call, or a blind eye to Your Word of truth. Help me to be ready and willing to go where You would send me, to do what You would tell me to do, and to develop a Christ-like heart of compassion for souls that are lost and bound for eternal separation from You. I pray that many would hear the truth and turn from their sin to faith in Christ’s finished work on Calvary. Help me to be alert to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in my life and to be ready and willing to do only those things that come from You. I ask this in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.”

Praying through Jonah 1:17

Heavenly Father, what an example Jonah is to all of us. Thank You that even when we are faithless, You remain faithful. But I pray that I would be ready and willing to hear and obey Your call on my life, no matter how difficult or unusual it may be. Use me, I pray, to share the good news of salvation so that many who are dead in their sins may come to know Christ as Saviour and Lord - to Your greater praise and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.”

For America As A Nation Who Has Lost Its Way

Loving Lord, I come to You to place the once great nation of United States of America at Your feet, knowing that our great country and it's constitution was made for a moral and religious people and is wholly inadequate for any other form of government, and yet we have strayed so far from the principles and practices of our great founders, who drew up our constitution based on Your Word.

But Lord, although this was once the land of the brave and the home of the free, sadly there is so much that is wrong with our country that I fear for its future. Lord, as a people we have walked away from You and discredited Your holy name by the way that we have conducted ourselves over the past few years and there is no health in our land.

Look down in pity on our people and our land, and protect us from those that seem determined on destroying our nation. Send Your Spirit I pray, through the land of America, and touch the hearts of all those that are called by Your name to plead on behalf our people. Convict those that are damaging our infrastructure and as a nation may we turn away from our wicked ways and return You to Your rightful position, in integrity and truth.

I ask this in Jesus' name,

Amen.

“So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.”

Praying through Jonah 4:2

Loving Father, thank You that You are indeed full of compassion and mercy, for You stooped down to save me when I was dead in my sins and brought me into Your family. May my life be a true reflection of Your gracious character. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.”
