Praying through Philippians 1:1

Heavenly Father, thank You for the lovely example of Paul and Timothy, who were bond-servants of Christ. They used the gifts and graces with which they were endowed, to further the good news of the gospel of grace for the benefit of the whole Church. Develop in me the heart of a servant that is ready and willing to think of others before myself. Use whatever gifts and graces I have, to forward the gospel in my little corner of the world. May I die to self and live for Christ, for Your honour and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:”

Praying through Philippians 1:3

Thank You, Father, for Your Church, which is the body of Christ and the family of God into which I have been born-again. As I lift up the pressing needs and requests of my brothers and sisters in Christ, may my prayers be bathed in love and grace, forgiveness and faith, care and concern. And may I always remember to beautify my prayers with joyful thanks and grateful praise, in Christ’s name I pray, AMEN.

“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,”

Praying through Philippians 1:5

Thank You, Father, that in Christ I am a fellow worker with other members of Your Body. Help me to lift up others in prayer and praise, and to faithfully carry out my part as a member of Your Body. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;”

Praying through Philippians 1:6

Dear Lord, thank You that You began this amazing work of grace in the soul of each believer. You knew each one of us before we were formed in our mother's womb, and You scheduled each day of our lives. In Your grace and mercy, You will perfect and complete the good work that You began, to our eternal benefit, and to Your eternal praise. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”

Praying through Philippians 1:7

Heavenly Father, in a world where the truth of the gospel is despised by the masses and the grace of God has been rejected in this humanistic society, help me to be like Paul. Help me to keep my brothers and sisters in remembrance and to lift them up prayer and thanksgiving. We are all one in Christ and all partakers of the glorious gospel of grace. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.”
(Philippians 1:7)

Praying through Philippians 1:8

Heavenly Father, I pray that I may so grow in grace and in a knowledge of my Saviour, Jesus Christ, that His supernatural love may flow into my heart so that, in the power of the Holy Spirit, I too may love others as Christ loved me and be able to say with Paul: "As God is my witness, I yearn for my brothers and sisters in Christ with all the affection of Christ Jesus." In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.”

Praying through Philippians 1:9

Heavenly Father, thank you for the privilege of prayer and for placing me in Your family as Your child. How blessed I am to be a member of the body of Christ, and I thank You for the example that Paul the apostle set, as he lifted up the body of Christ in prayer. I pray also for my brothers and sisters in Christ, that their love may increase and multiply and that they too grow in grace and in a knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. In His name I pray, AMEN.

“And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;”

Praying through Philippians 1:10

Heavenly Father, I pray that I may set aside my own self life and live in true fellowship of the gospel with my brothers and sisters in Christ. Help me to discover that inner holy joy that comes from holding all the saints of God in my loving thoughts and lifting them up in prayer within my heart. May my love for all believers in Christ, overspill into earnest prayer for them all. Lord, I pray that all believers learn to approve that which is good and excellent so that in sincerity and truth, we all would grow in grace and live blamelessly before You until the return of Christ when we see Jesus and we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;”

Praying through Philippians 1:11

Dear Lord, thank You for imputing me with Christ's righteousness as a free gift of grace. I offer myself to You today and pray that in the power of the Spirit, I would be filled with the fruits of righteousness, for the glory of Your name. I pray that my life would continue to produce much fruit, all for Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.”

Praying through Philippians 1:12

Heavenly Father, how I thank You that You are my God. No matter what situation I find myself in and whatever problems I may be called upon to face, it can be used by You for the furtherance of the gospel of grace. Help me to be joyful in my hope in Christ, knowing that You can use every circumstance of my life for the greater progress of the gospel. Help me to be persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, and learn to say: "Thy will, not mine be done." In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;”

Praying through Philippians 1:13

Heavenly Father, I pray that I may become so 'one with my Saviour', that I learn to entrust every situation into His hands, no matter how difficult or distressing it may be. Help me remember that all things in life serve to advance the gospel of Christ, to Your praise and glory. May I learn to rejoice in all things, knowing that there is nothing that can touch my life that You cannot use to further the good news of the gospel of grace to a dying world in need of a Saviour. This I ask in Jesus' precious name, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 1:14

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful witness of Paul and for the many instances where You took simple people, absurd equipment, and seemingly inappropriate circumstances, to forward Your plans and purposes. Fulfil Your will in my life, I pray. May I be a willing witness in whatever circumstances I may find myself. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.”

Praying through Philippians 1:15

Heavenly Father, thank You for the work that You have called me to do in this corner of Your vineyard. May I rejoice to see the message of salvation being spread to lost souls and not be downcast by those whose motive may be rooted in envy or bitterness. Rather, I pray that I may be flooded with Your joy that the gospel is being proclaimed. Help me to encourage others to rejoice in the Lord with me, at the wonderful way that so many are hearing the good news of the gospel of salvation. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:”

Praying through Philippians 1:16

Heavenly Father, I pray that the glorious gospel of grace would be spread abroad, despite the evil attempts of the enemy to disrupt the spread of the gospel. May I never forget that You are in control and that You will use every eventuality in my life, whether good or ill, for Your greater glory. Keep me from developing any petty differences with other ministries, even when they are discourteous toward me. May the love of Christ shine forth in my life. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:”

Praying through Philippians 1:17

Heavenly Father, I pray that I would learn all that You would teach me through these two contrasting groups of Christians, one who preach out of selfish ambition and one who preach out of love for You. I ask that I would develop a gracious, caring, godly attitude toward all my brothers and sisters in Christ. Keep me from developing any unrighteous behaviour or adopting a judgemental attitude toward other believers. You know the motives of our hearts and Your judgements are righteous and true. Keep my motives toward others pure, and may all I do be to the glory of God. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.”

Praying through Philippians 1:18

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am part of the Body of Christ and for the work that You have called me to do. Help me to rejoice over the ministries of others that are sharing the truth of the gospel of Christ, even when their motives are ungodly, or when it conflicts with my own cultural differences or churchmanship. I pray that wherever You place me, I will be content to finish the work You have called me to do and rejoice in the work that you have called others to do, in spirit and truth. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.”

Praying through Philippians 1:19

Heavenly Father, I want to learn the lesson that all the things that happen in my life will be used by You, to Your praise and glory. Help me to keep my eyes off my immediate circumstances and to fix my eyes on Jesus, knowing that deliverance will always come in Your timing and in Your way. Teach me also of the value of prayers and intercessions for others which You use as a tool to increase my faith, forward Your kingdom, and draw me ever closer to Jesus, in Whose name I pray, AMEN.

“For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,”

Praying through Philippians 1:20

Heavenly Father, how I praise Your holy name for all Your loving kindness to me and all Your children. My earnest expectation and hope is that I shall be ashamed in nothing in my life but live boldly for You, honouring and magnifying You in all I think, and say, and do. This I pray in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.”

Praying through Philippians 1:21

Loving Father, thank You that I am Your child. May Your will be done in my life and may I live in a way pleasing to You. Thank You that my times are in Your hands, and I pray that I may live for Christ every day of my life, knowing that to die in Him is gain. Enable me to finish the work that You have prepared for me to do, and keep me through all life's difficulties, knowing that Your grace is sufficient. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 1:22

Heavenly Father, as I look at the apostle Paul, I can see Your guiding hand in every situation of his life and every situation of my life. I pray that I may live a fruitful life that brings forth much spiritual fruit for Your praise and glory. Whether I live or die, I thank You, Father, that my life is in Your hands and that Your grace is sufficient. Thank You that my light afflictions, which are but for a moment, are working in me an absolutely incomparable, eternal weight of glory. Praise Your holy name forever and ever, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 1:23

Loving Father, I long to be with Jesus and I long to live for Jesus. Enable me to live a life that is honouring to You. And I pray that I may so set my heart on You, that the things of the world have no attraction for me, as my eyes remain fixed firmly on You. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 1:24

Heavenly Father, how I praise and thank You for the teachings of Paul that give me so much encouragement and comfort. Thank You for his example of a man who cared for the spiritual well-being of others before his own desires. Thank You for all the saints who have been instrumental in telling me about Jesus, encouraging me in my spiritual growth, and placing my needs above their own. I pray that I may show the same grace to my brothers and sisters in Christ. In all things may I joyfully say, "Thy will, Lord Jesus, not mine be done, for Your glory and the well-being of others." This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.”

Praying through Philippians 1:25

Heavenly Father, what an example the apostle Paul is, of a man whose driving passion was to exalt Christ in all he said and did, to minister to his brothers and sisters in Christ and to share the gospel of grace with the lost. I pray that I may have that same holy mindset so that whether I live or die, my dear desire would be to exalt the Lord Jesus in my life, to conduct myself in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, and to stand firm with my Christian brothers and sisters. May I so grow in grace and in a knowledge of my Lord and Saviour, that I may say with Paul: "For me to live is Christ and to die is gain." In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;”

Praying through Philippians 1:27

Heavenly Father, help me to live a life that is worthy of You. May my conduct and behaviour be uncompromising, whether I am alone or in the company of others. And may the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing to You. I pray that I may stand firm in the truth of the glorious gospel of grace and strive side by side with my brothers and sisters in Christ for the faith of the glorious gospel of Christ. He alone is worthy of our praise and worship, and it is in His name I pray, AMEN.

“Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;”
(Philippians 1:27)
Source: Verse of the day for Philippians 1:27

Praying through Philippians 1:28

Heavenly Father, it is a sobering thought to know that those who reject the glorious gospel of Christ, bring judgement down on their own heads, and those that wilfully oppose Your purpose and plan, are under Your eternal condemnation because they have not trusted in the One Person, Who alone has power over death, and in Whom are the words of eternal life. Use me as a witness that points others to Christ, and I pray that I may decrease so that He may increase, until it is not I that live, but Christ that lives in me. This I ask in His precious name, AMEN.

“And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.”

Praying through Philippians 1:29

Heavenly Father, how I praise and thank You that I have been called out of darkness into Your glorious light, by faith in Christ's finished work at Calvary which alone paid for my sins. I also thank You that as part of Christ's Body, I am given the privilege of suffering for His sake. As I travel through a world that is hostile to Your grace and shows contempt for the precious sacrifice of Your dearly beloved Son and my Saviour, I pray You would draw me ever closer to Christ. May I rejoice in the trials I am called upon to face in this fleeting life, knowing that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be one day be revealed in me. Praise His holy name, AMEN.

Thank You that I am accepted in Christ and part of that heavenly company that has received life eternal by faith in Him. I pray that, together with my brothers and sisters in Christ, we may live in spiritual unity and godly harmony. May we be of one mind, maintain the same love, be united in spirit, and intent on one purpose which is to be increasingly transformed into the image and likeness of Christ. Help me do this by living my life to Your praise and glory, by trusting You in all the difficulties and dangers of life and by relying on You in all circumstances of life. Heavenly Father, thank You that You have given us the Bible to teach us how to live in this Church dispensation. Thank You for the many lessons that I can learn from both the Old and New Testament. May I become increasingly vigilant in my Christian walk and rightly divide the Word of God so that I am not taken in by any deceptive teachings. May I hold fast to that which is good and be truly circumcised in heart and soul, so that I may love You with every fibre of my being - to Your praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.”

Praying through Philippians 3:3

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am not required to jump through various Jewish hoops to reach You, but have been saved by grace through faith in Christ alone. Thank You that believing Gentiles, together with believing Jews, are all one in Christ, members of His Body, and joint heirs with our God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.”

Praying through Philippians 3:5

Heavenly Father, there is no greater privilege and joy than to gain Christ and to be found in Him. May I always remember that there is no lasting value and importance in the things that are so esteemed by the world, in comparison with having Jesus as my portion and living for Him. Thank You that He died for me so that by grace through faith in Christ, I am now a child of God and have been given an eternal inheritance in Him. Help me to say, without hesitation, that whatever things there are in my life that I gain, I count them all as loss for the sake of Christ Jesus my Lord. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 3:6

Heavenly Father, I realise through Paul's vehement denouncement of legalism and religiosity, that fleshly works are unacceptable to You and that confidence in the flesh is a denial of Christ's finished work on the Cross. Thank You that faith in His finished work on Calvary is sufficient to pay the price for my sin. Help me not to put confidence in my own fleshly works but live by faith in the Son of Man who loves me and gave His life for me. Thank You that His sacrificial death and glorious Resurrection is sufficient for salvation. Father, there are many who have been taught that confidence in the flesh and works of the law are required for salvation. Open their eyes and reveal the truth that Christ's work is sufficient, through time and into eternity. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 3:7

Father God, thank You for Christ Jesus. I thank You for the many benefits and blessings that you have bestowed on me in this life, but I pray that nothing will ever eclipse my thankfulness for my position in Christ. I pray that, like Paul, whatever gain I have I may count as loss, for the sake of Christ Jesus my Lord. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.”

Praying through Philippians 3:8

Heavenly Father, I pray that my desire to know Christ may continue to grow and expand until, like Paul, I am able to consider that the loss of those things that I value and hold dear in life, as rubbish to me, in order that I may gain Christ. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,”

Heavenly Father, thank You that although I have no righteousness of my own, You sent Christ to pay the price for my sins so that by believing on Him, I might be clothed in His righteousness forever. Praise His holy name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, I long to know Christ more and to know the power of His resurrected life in me. I pray that I may partake of all the sufferings in my life in obedient submission to Your Spirit and that, day by day, I may be increasingly conformed into the image and likeness of the Lord Jesus. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, I pray that in thought, word, and deed, I may strive to live godly in Christ Jesus to Your praise and glory. I pray that in Your grace and power I may make every effort to finish the race that is set before me. I pray that like Paul, I may strive to die to self and my own personal desires and live for Christ as I press towards the goal of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus my Saviour, to His praise and glory. This I ask in His name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You that You have established the path that You want me to take. I pray that in the power of the Holy Spirit, I would press on to the goal of my calling and lay hold of all that You have purposed for me to do. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Loving Father, I confess that sometimes I look backwards, rather than single-mindedly looking forward to the goal of my calling. May I set my heart as a flint to do Your will, in the power of the Spirit, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 3:15

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Paul who pressed on for the upward call of God in Christ Jesus and was prepared to fellowship in the suffering of his Saviour. Thank You that Your grace is sufficient no matter what suffering I may have to face. Prepare my heart and mind to walk in the ways of God all the days of my life, for His praise and glory. Praying through Philippians 3:16

Heavenly Father, thank You for the godly example of the apostle Paul. I pray that I too may live my life to the standard of holiness to which I have attained, in Christ. But more than that I thank You for Jesus, and for sending Him to be my sacrifice for sin. Lord, I want to offer my life as a living sacrifice that is honouring to Your name. Help me to live... and if necessary to die to Your praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 3:17

Heavenly Father, thank You for the life and ministry of the apostle, Paul. Thank You for the example he set of Christ-likeness, through self-sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. My heart’s cry is to know You more intimately, to love You more deeply, and to follow You more closely, no matter what the cost. May I know the power of Your resurrected life and be willing to fellowship in Christ’s suffering, for His name’s sake. May I present my life to You as a holy and living sacrifice. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 3:18

Heavenly Father, how easy it is for the old sin nature to influence our thinking, and cause any one of us to become enemies of the Cross, when through self-righteousness or pride we try to do things in our own strength, rather than dying to self and living our new life in Christ. Keep me from falling into the old, fleshly ways, and may I learn to walk in spirit and truth, to Your praise and glory. Prevent me from falling into any self-righteous or legalistic thinking, and keep me resting in Christ and submitted to the Holy Spirit of truth. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your many precious promises. Thank You that one day, all who believe on Christ will have our lowly bodies changed into the image and likeness of our Saviour. Thank You that Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 4:1

Loving Father, what a joy for Paul to write to the dear saints at Philippi, whom he considered as his joy and crown. I pray that I may live my life for Christ and stand fast in Him so that I be used by You to witness, in word and deed, to all with whom I come in contact today. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN

Praying through Philippians 4:4

Loving Father thank You for Your gift of joy and for Your fruit of rejoicing. Help me to take all my thoughts captive... especially those doubts and imaginings that are prompted by the enemy to steal the heavenly gift of joy that is mine in Christ. Thank You, Father, that You are worthy of all my praise and that Your joy is a heavenly medicine and spiritual muscle that strengthens my trust and increases my love for You. May I never cease to rejoice in You all the days of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Prayer To Be Anxious For Nothing

Lord, You have told us in Your Word to be anxious for nothing, and I know in my heart that I am anxious about lot of things. And what is worse, I pretend to others that I am not worried, when in fact I am anxious about everything. I know such striving is not Your will for my life and I pray Lord, that You will show me how I may live my life resting on Your promises of peace and rest.

You said in Your Word not to be anxious, but pray instead about everything and to talk to You about what I need. You told me also to have a thankful heart for all that You have done in my life. Lord, I am coming to You this very moment to tell You that I long to stop being so anxious and to ask that in Your grace You would keep me from all anxious thoughts, and give me Your peace that passes understanding.

I also pray that You will help me to keep my mind fixed on Jesus, so that when any anxious imaginings starts to surface in my mind, I may immediately turn my thoughts onto You, and thank You for all that You have done for me, and for the many promises that are all Yes and Amen in Jesus Christ.

Thank You, that You are a God who listens to our heart cry and answers our prayers. In Jesus' name,

Amen.

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are the One Who has promised Your inner, living, perfect peace, to all who will read, mark, learn, inwardly digest, and apply all the principles of godly living that are set out for our learning in the holy Scriptures. Help me to live my life as You intended, to rejoice continually, to pray without ceasing, and to give thanks in all things, knowing that this is Your will for my life. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, keep me, I pray, from anxious thoughts. Help me to garrison my thought life on all that is commendable and good, and help me to keep the eyes of my heart fixed on Jesus. May I make a conscious choice to dwell on those things that are worthy of praise, knowing that the light of Christ and the darkness of all that is evil, cannot abide together. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Praying through Philippians 4:10

Heavenly Father, what a joy to recall how Paul rejoiced in You in every situation, and recognised Your hand of blessing through the gifts he received from others. Give me a grateful heart for those You use to supply my needs, and use me I pray, to help provide for the needs of others, to Your praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 4:11

Heavenly Father, thank You for this example of generous giving and of gracious receiving. I pray that I may be content in all things, whether I have much or little, but I also pray that You will prompt me give of what I have, when others are in need, not out of obligation but out of love for You. Thank You that all good and perfect things come from You and may I be a good steward of all I have.. and trust You for all I need - in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 4:12

Heavenly Father, help me, like Paul, to be contented in all circumstances of life, whether I find myself in humble means, or endowed with more prosperous surroundings, whether I am being filled with good things, or find myself facing hardship and hunger. Help me to learn how to get along when I am abased or endowed with much prosperity. Give me a contented heart that looks to Jesus for my strength, my support, and my supply, and whether I live in abundance or find myself in dire need, may I live, day by day, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Philippians 4:13

Teach me, my Father, to look to Jesus each moment of the day for my strength and not to rely on my own imperfect, human abilities and intelligence, for without You I can do nothing. But thanks be to God that as I rest in Christ Jesus, He will empower me, through the indwelling Holy Spirit, to carry out Your will for my life. Father, I confess that without You I can do nothing, but thanks be to God that I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me through the power of the Holy Spirit. To You be praise and glory forever, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, there is so much to learn from the epistles of Paul and the other apostles, even in the simple greetings at the beginning, and the gracious exhortations at the end. I pray that I may value all my brothers and sisters in Christ and delight to give and receive encouragement and support as we 'gossip the gospel', rejoice in our salvation, and wait for the any-day return of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, in Whose precious name I pray, AMEN.
