Prayer for Philippians 3

Praying through Philippians 3:1

Loving Father, thank You for Your grace and love toward me and to all those that are Your children. May I rejoice greatly in You, for You are my everlasting hope and my ever present joy. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.”

Praying through Philippians 3:2

Heavenly Father, thank You that You have given us the Bible to teach us how to live in this Church dispensation. Thank You for the many lessons that I can learn from both the Old and New Testament. May I become increasingly vigilant in my Christian walk and rightly divide the Word of God so that I am not taken in by any deceptive teachings. May I hold fast to that which is good and be truly circumcised in heart and soul, so that I may love You with every fibre of my being - to Your praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.”

Praying through Philippians 3:3

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am not required to jump through various Jewish hoops to reach You, but have been saved by grace through faith in Christ alone. Thank You that believing Gentiles, together with believing Jews, are all one in Christ, members of His Body, and joint heirs with our God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.”
(Philippians 3:3)

Praying through Philippians 3:5

Heavenly Father, there is no greater privilege and joy than to gain Christ and to be found in Him. May I always remember that there is no lasting value and importance in the things that are so esteemed by the world, in comparison with having Jesus as my portion and living for Him. Thank You that He died for me so that by grace through faith in Christ, I am now a child of God and have been given an eternal inheritance in Him. Help me to say, without hesitation, that whatever things there are in my life that I gain, I count them all as loss for the sake of Christ Jesus my Lord. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;”

Praying through Philippians 3:6

Heavenly Father, I realise through Paul's vehement denouncement of legalism and religiosity, that fleshly works are unacceptable to You and that confidence in the flesh is a denial of Christ's finished work on the Cross. Thank You that faith in His finished work on Calvary is sufficient to pay the price for my sin. Help me not to put confidence in my own fleshly works but live by faith in the Son of Man who loves me and gave His life for me. Thank You that His sacrificial death and glorious Resurrection is sufficient for salvation. Father, there are many who have been taught that confidence in the flesh and works of the law are required for salvation. Open their eyes and reveal the truth that Christ's work is sufficient, through time and into eternity. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.”

Praying through Philippians 3:7

Father God, thank You for Christ Jesus. I thank You for the many benefits and blessings that you have bestowed on me in this life, but I pray that nothing will ever eclipse my thankfulness for my position in Christ. I pray that, like Paul, whatever gain I have I may count as loss, for the sake of Christ Jesus my Lord. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.”

Praying through Philippians 3:8

Heavenly Father, I pray that my desire to know Christ may continue to grow and expand until, like Paul, I am able to consider that the loss of those things that I value and hold dear in life, as rubbish to me, in order that I may gain Christ. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,”
(Philippians 3:8)

Praying through Philippians 3:9

Heavenly Father, thank You that although I have no righteousness of my own, You sent Christ to pay the price for my sins so that by believing on Him, I might be clothed in His righteousness forever. Praise His holy name, AMEN.

“And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:”

Praying through Philippians 3:10

Heavenly Father, I long to know Christ more and to know the power of His resurrected life in me. I pray that I may partake of all the sufferings in my life in obedient submission to Your Spirit and that, day by day, I may be increasingly conformed into the image and likeness of the Lord Jesus. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;”

Praying through Philippians 3:11

Heavenly Father, I pray that in thought, word, and deed, I may strive to live godly in Christ Jesus to Your praise and glory. I pray that in Your grace and power I may make every effort to finish the race that is set before me. I pray that like Paul, I may strive to die to self and my own personal desires and live for Christ as I press towards the goal of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus my Saviour, to His praise and glory. This I ask in His name, AMEN.

“If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.”

Praying through Philippians 3:12

Heavenly Father, thank You that You have established the path that You want me to take. I pray that in the power of the Holy Spirit, I would press on to the goal of my calling and lay hold of all that You have purposed for me to do. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.”

Praying through Philippians 3:13

Loving Father, I confess that sometimes I look backwards, rather than single-mindedly looking forward to the goal of my calling. May I set my heart as a flint to do Your will, in the power of the Spirit, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,”

Praying through Philippians 3:14

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am Your child. I want to live my life the way that You have ordained and run the race that You have set before me. Help me to press on toward the goal of my calling in Christ Jesus, trusting in Him to overcome every problem, disappointment, and challenge I may face. May I always trust in my Saviour, Who has overcome the world. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

Praying through Philippians 3:15

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Paul who pressed on for the upward call of God in Christ Jesus and was prepared to fellowship in the suffering of his Saviour. Thank You that Your grace is sufficient no matter what suffering I may have to face. Prepare my heart and mind to walk in the ways of God all the days of my life, for His praise and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.”

Praying through Philippians 3:16

Heavenly Father, thank You for the godly example of the apostle Paul. I pray that I too may live my life to the standard of holiness to which I have attained, in Christ. But more than that I thank You for Jesus, and for sending Him to be my sacrifice for sin. Lord, I want to offer my life as a living sacrifice that is honouring to Your name. Help me to live... and if necessary to die to Your praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.”

Praying through Philippians 3:17

Heavenly Father, thank You for the life and ministry of the apostle, Paul. Thank You for the example he set of Christ-likeness, through self-sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. My heart’s cry is to know You more intimately, to love You more deeply, and to follow You more closely, no matter what the cost. May I know the power of Your resurrected life and be willing to fellowship in Christ’s suffering, for His name’s sake. May I present my life to You as a holy and living sacrifice. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.”

Praying through Philippians 3:18

Heavenly Father, how easy it is for the old sin nature to influence our thinking, and cause any one of us to become enemies of the Cross, when through self-righteousness or pride we try to do things in our own strength, rather than dying to self and living our new life in Christ. Keep me from falling into the old, fleshly ways, and may I learn to walk in spirit and truth, to Your praise and glory. Prevent me from falling into any self-righteous or legalistic thinking, and keep me resting in Christ and submitted to the Holy Spirit of truth. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:”

Praying through Philippians 3:20

Loving Lord, what a wonderful privilege it is to be part of Your heavenly family, as one of Your children. Thank You, Father, for all the grace and love that you have poured out on me to give me a heavenly inheritance. I pray that throughout the rest of my life on earth, I may glorify Your holy name in my conversation and conduct. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:”

Praying through Philippians 3:21

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your many precious promises. Thank You that one day, all who believe on Christ will have our lowly bodies changed into the image and likeness of our Saviour. Thank You that You have promised to transform the bodies of Your blood bought children into a body that will be like His resurrected body of glory. Thank You that Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever, AMEN.

“Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”
