Prayer for James 2

Praying through James 2:1

Heavenly Father, I pray that Jesus might be seen in me and that, in the power of the Holy Spirit, all I say and do will be done to Your honour and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.”

Praying through James 2:2

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever, and thank You that there is no shadow of turning with You. Thank You for the Word of God which teaches me how to live godly in Christ Jesus and for this important lesson which calls for humility of heart and a genuine love and respect for all my brothers and sisters in Christ. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;”

Praying through James 2:3

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are no respecter of persons. Thank You that You did not discriminate against me when I was dead in my sins and at enmity with You. Keep me, I pray, from any form of hypocrisy. May I increasingly consider the needs and feelings of all my brothers and sisters in Christ before my own. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:”

Praying through James 2:5

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for my salvation and the many wonderful promises that I have received by grace, simply because I trusted Jesus. Thank You that though I can be poor in material things, I can be rich in faith. May I be reminded that riches are sometimes even an obstacle to my faith. Keep my heart humble before you and full of love for You. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?”

Praying through James 2:10

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and the truths within its pages. Thank You that I am not in bondage to the Law of Moses, but am free to live in the liberty of the Law of the Spirit of God, in Christ Jesus. Thank You for the lessons I can learn from Your dealings with Israel and of the importance of remaining in fellowship with You, day by day. Thank You that Christ died to pay the full price for my sin, and that I have been given the power to live a holy life, that is honouring to You. Keep me from sinning, for I know that sin, in thought, word, or deed, will remove me from the fellowship I enjoy with You. But thank You that Christ's sacrifice for me was made once and for all, and that if I confess those times I fall into sin, You are faithful to forgive me and return me into sweet communion with Yourself. Thank You in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”

Praying through James 2:13

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your loving mercy toward me in that while I was yet a sinner, Christ died for me. As I go about my days in this world that is full of so many judgemental attitudes and actions, may I show forth Your love and mercy to those around me so that they would see Christ in me, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.”

Praying through James 2:14

Heavenly Father, thank You that You sent the Lord Jesus Christ to be the propitiation for my sins and that my salvation is through trusting in the Person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ and does not depend on my good works. But as I walk in spirit and truth, I pray that Christ would be seen in me and that I may bring forth the fruit of good works in my life, to Your praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?”

For Families With An Alcoholic Father

Loving Heavenly Father, You put us into families and set a father as the leader and role model for each family, but Lord, there are many families that are being torn apart by a husband and father that has become addicted to alcohol.

Knowing the devastating nature of this disease, I pray that You would prompt each one to turn away from this evil habit to become the responsible husband and father that You desire each one to be.

Lord, we know that there are many alcoholic husbands that abuse their wives both physically and emotionally and that many children are also placed in danger due to abuse from an alcoholic father. And also Lord, we know that such drinking habits can often leave families with insufficient money to live on.

Protect all those that are vulnerable from all forms of abuse, and convict such men of the responsibilities of being loving husbands and dependable fathers. Lord, we pray that they turn from their evil ways to turn to the Lord Jesus, knowing that only in You is true freedom found.

Thank You Father. I commit all families that are in this position into Your safe-keeping. In Jesus' name,

Amen.

“And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?”

Praying through James 2:17

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus and the example He set in His life of a Man Who fulfilled the redemptive work that You had prepared for Him to do, willingly and in the power of the Holy Spirit. I pray that I may work the works of God and demonstrate a living faith that honours Your holy name. I pray that I will not try to carry out dead works in my own strength but rather that I will demonstrate a living faith using Jesus as the pattern for my Christian walk. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”

Praying through James 2:19

Heavenly Father, help me to examine myself to make sure I am in the faith. Lord, I believe that Jesus died for my sin and that He rose again, the third day, to pay the price for my sin and the sin of the whole world. Lord, I am not worthy to gather up the crumbs under Your table, but I believe that Christ came to pay the price for MY sin, when He died on the Cross and I believe He broke the power of sin and death in my life and has imputed me with His own righteousness, by faith, for which I am eternally thankful. I praise and thank You for Your goodness and grace towards me. Thank You, in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”

Praying through James 2:21

Heavenly Father, thank You that there is nothing contradictory in Scripture. I pray that you would open my understanding of passages that may be difficult to understand or that false teachers take out of context, in order to promote an unbiblical doctrine. Thank You that, like Abraham, I am saved by grace through faith and that my salvation depends on the work that Christ has already done, and not on the works I do in my life. And thank You that, like Abraham, I can demonstrate my faith and love to You by performing good works, as led by the Spirit. May my life be one that is holy unto You and that honours Your name. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?”

Praying through James 2:26

Heavenly Father, thank You that by Your grace I have been made alive in Christ and have the Holy Spirit living within Who breathed His breath of life into my dead spirit, the moment I trusted Christ as my Saviour. I pray that my faith may be a living faith that produces the good works that You have prepared for me to do and is not a dead, fruitless faith. I pray that others may see Christ living in me and working through me so that Your name would be glorified by my life. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
