Prayer for John 17

Praying through John 17:1

Thank You, Father, that Your glorious plan and purpose was for Jesus to go to the Cross and suffer humiliation, pain, and bitter agony so that I might be redeemed by His blood and share in the riches of His grace. Praise Your holy name, AMEN.

“These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:”

Praying through John 17:2

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am in Christ, and that He is my Lord and Saviour. Thank You that He has paid the price for my sin and that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him. Just as the Lord Jesus spent His life glorifying You through His willing obedience and joyful submission, may I in like manner, live my life in willing obedience and joyful submission to Him. To Your praise and glory, AMEN.

“As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.”

Praying through John 17:3

Heavenly Father, thank You for the new life in Christ that was given to me when I trusted Him as Saviour. Thank You for the eternal life that is already mine through Christ. May I know You more and more, and may I grow in grace and in a knowledge of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

Praying through John 17:4

Heavenly Father, what magnificent grace that Christ should set aside His glory and live His life as a man. What amazing love that He would die a cruel death for me and rise again so that by faith in Him, I might have eternal life. To Him be all praise and glory, world without end, AMEN.

Praying through John 17:5

Heavenly Father, how I praise and thank You for giving Your Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Thank You that Jesus was willing to give up His honour and glory to be born into a race of sinners so that all who trust in Him might not be condemned but live with Him in everlasting glory. He alone is worthy of our grateful thanks for to Him belongs all honour, glory, praise and power, might, majesty, dominion, and thanks. Forever and ever, AMEN.

“And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.”

Praying through John 17:6

Thank You, Father, that You knew me before the foundation of the world and chose me to be Your child. Thank You that I have been bought with a price, the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Thank You that even when I do not understand or when my faith starts to fail, that You remain faithful and have promised to finish the good work that You started in me, in the day of Christ Jesus, to Whom be all honour and glory forever and ever, AMEN.

“I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.”

Praying through John 17:7

Heavenly Father, thank You for this wonderful prayer of the Lord Jesus which helps me to understand the glorious truth of Your written Word and the amazing grace of the Word made flesh. Thank You for Jesus, Who dwelt amongst us to show us Your glory and to give us a free gift of sins forgiven and life everlasting. Thank You that the Lord our God is one God, and that our Saviour Jesus Christ is one with the Father. To You be all praise and glory, in Jesus' holy name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through John 17:8

Heavenly Father, I praise You for Your gracious plan of salvation and for sending Your incarnate Word to reveal Your divine attributes and holy nature to sinful man. Thank You that Christ was sent to become my Saviour through the life that He lived, the death that He died, and His glorious Resurrection from the grave. There is much that I still don’t understand, but this I know - that He died to pay the price for my sins and rose again to break the power of sin in my life. May I live to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.”

Praying through John 17:9

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word of truth and for the men for whom Jesus prayed, who proclaimed the good news of the gospel to a lost and dying world. Thank You for their testimony that salvation is found in no other name but Jesus, to Whom be all honour and praise, AMEN.

Praying through John 17:10

Dear Lord, thank You for this beautiful glimpse into the heart of God and the intimacy that exists between the Father and the Son. Thank You that You were glorified through Your chosen apostles as an example that all who are called and chosen may be used of You to glorify Your holy name. Use me, I pray, to be a witness to the world of Your goodness and grace, and may I be increasingly set apart unto You with every passing day, until it is not I, but Christ Who lives in me. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through John 17:11

Heavenly Father, thank You that You sent Jesus into the world to save us from our sin and to enable all who believe in Him be witnesses to the truth of Your Word and to become ministers of reconciliation. I pray that all who are called by Your name would be knit together in the unity of the Spirit and be united together in the truth of the glorious gospel of grace. Use us we pray to tell a lost world of God's wonderful plan of redemption through the finished work Jesus Christ our Saviour, AMEN.

“And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.”

Praying through John 17:12

Heavenly Father, thank You for this precious peep into the interceding work of the Lord Jesus for His own. Thank You that Christ died for our sins and rose again to give us His life. Thank You that He is our heavenly High Priest Who is daily interceding for us and thank You that nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord - that great Shepherd of the sheep and our holy heavenly High Priest, in Whose name we boldly pray, AMEN.

“While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.”

Praying through John 17:14

Loving Father, I love and worship You for Your great and gracious love in sending the Lord Jesus so that we could receive Your Word in our hearts, by faith in Him. Thank You for Your Word, which reminds me that this world is not my home and I am just passing through on the way to my heavenly home. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through John 17:16

Loving Father, thank You that my citizenship is in heaven, and I am part of Christ's kingdom. May I never boast except in the Cross of my Lord Jesus Christ, through Whom the world has been crucified to me and I to the world. In His name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through John 17:17

Thank You, Father, that I am chosen, set apart, and sanctified unto you because I am part of the Body of Christ. Thank You that I am being progressively sanctified as I live my life in submission to the Spirit and for Your glory. I pray that each day I may become more and more like my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, until that glorious day when I shall behold Him as He is and be fully and finally set apart unto You – for Your praise and glory. This I pray in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through John 17:19

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving Jesus to be my Saviour and for sending Him to be my example of how a man, sanctified unto God, should live. I pray that in the power of the Holy Spirit I may live my life sanctified unto God, walking in spirit and truth, and living my life in total dependence upon You, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.”

Praying through John 17:20

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Christ into the world to be the propitiation for my sins and for the sin of the whole world. Thank You for giving us the God-breathed Word of Truth through those men whom You sanctified and called to lay the foundation of the Christian faith. Help us to be united in the truth of Your Word, and eschew all that deviates from the foundational doctrine that was laid by Your holy apostles and prophets. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through John 17:21

Heavenly Father, thank You for this amazing peep into the heart of Christ as He offers up this earnest High Priestly prayer about unity in the Body of Christ. I pray that my life would be, in a small part, an answer to that prayer so that others may see my life and glorify my Father in heaven. I pray that through my witness, many may be drawn into an even closer relationship with Christ - our God and our Redeemer, in Whose name I pray, AMEN.

“That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.”

Praying through John 17:22

Heavenly Father, how I praise Your holy name for Your goodness and loving kindness to me and to all men. You have sent Your Son to redeem us by His blood and made us one with Himself. May we all shine forth His glory in our lives, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through John 17:23

Loving Father, unite Your children in the bond of love and fellowship with Yourself so that those that are Your children may abide in You and You in us. May we be true witnesses to the world of Your so great salvation. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through John 17:24

Thank You, Father, for Your Son Jesus Christ Who died to pay the price for my sin. Thank You for the free gift of eternal life and a home in heaven with You. How wonderful that one day I will see the glory of Christ and bathe in the love that You shared, before the foundation of the world. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
