Praying through 1 John 3:1

Loving Father I praise Your name for Your great love towards me and all those that trust in the name of Jesus. Thank You for loving me enough to save me and thank You that in Christ, I am called Your child, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.”

Praying through 1 John 3:2

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your incredible grace and inestimable love - that I should be called Your child. Thank You for the wonderful revelation of Yourself in the Word of God and thank You that You came to earth and identified with my filthiness and sin so that I might be clothed in Your purity and righteousness; positioned in Christ; in-dwelled by the Spirit and accepted in the Beloved. To You be all praise and glory for You alone are worthy - in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

Praying through 1 John 3:3

Loving Father in my limited understanding it seems incomprehensible that You should adopt me into Your family as Your son, by faith in Christ. Yet Your Word is true and I still need to reckon on this truth as fact. Father, there are many in the world that do not know You and have not trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord. Use me to be a channel of blessing... to show Your love to a world that is dead in trespasses and sins. This I pray in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.”

Praying through 1 John 3:4

Heavenly Father, I acknowledge You as the God of the universe and Lord of my life. I thank You that in Your grace, You sent the Lord Jesus to pay the price for my sin and declared me righteous in Your sight - by faith in His sacrificial death and glorious Resurrection. There are many, Lord, who are still walking in rebellion against You and are cloaked in sin and lawlessness. I pray that they would open their eyes to the truth in the precious Word of God and be saved by grace through faith in Christ - for which I give You thanks and praise. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 1 John 3:5

Heavenly Father thank You for sending the Lord Jesus at the appointed time to come to earth as the sinless Son of Man, in order to take away my sins by dying for me on the cross at Calvary. You could have left us eternally separated from Yourself and dead in our trespasses and sins.. but in Your grace:- Christ appeared in order to take away my sins - dying in my place and giving me His own resurrected life. Your love is beyond my understanding but I praise and thank You that You sent the sinless Son of God.. to die for me, AMEN.

Praying through 1 John 3:8

Father, I thank You that everything that could cause my ruin has been forever destroyed at the Cross of Christ and I have been born into the family of God. But Father, many are blinded by the wicked one who seeks to destroy the souls of men. Use me I pray, and may I become a channel through whom Your saving grace may flow out to others, who are in bondage to sin and Satan. Help me to keep my old sin nature in the place of death, and walk in spirit and truth. In Jesus' name, I pray, AMEN.

“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”

Praying through 1 John 3:9

Loving Father, thank You for my new life in Christ, for I know that Your Holy Spirit breathed the perfect life of Christ into me when I trusted You as my saviour. I confess that too often my old sin nature causes me to sin – but thanks be to God that the power of that sinful nature has been broken in my life – I confess my sins and pray that I may live my life as unto the Lord, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am a child of God and that the life of the risen Lord Jesus is dwelling in me. Help me to live and work to Your praise and glory. May I cast off the works of darkness and be clothed in the armour of light, so that others may see Christ working in and through me, to His praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 1 John 3:16

Heavenly Father, I stand dumbfounded to realise the depth of Your love for me and remain stunned at the amazing love of Christ for me and for the fallen race of sinful man - that Christ laid aside His heavenly glory and was made sin for me so that by grace through faith in Him I might have life. I pray that His love might flow through me so that I too may be willing to lay down my life for others - to Your praise and glory, AMEN.

“Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”

Praying through 1 John 3:17

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word of truth and the many things I can learn from questioning my own actions, attitudes, moods, and motives. Thank You for this passage in first John that has caused me to reflect on the way that I treat my brothers and sisters in Christ, and may I grow more like Jesus, day by day. Thank You for all Your goodness in providing all I need for life and godliness, but keep me from holding on too tightly to my possessions. Help me to be wise and prudent in the way I use my resources and generous towards others when I see a need. Search my inner thoughts, I pray, and if there is anything in me that causes you pain, I pray that You would bring it to my attention and help me grow in wisdom and love. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?”

Praying through 1 John 3:18

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am Your child, and that Christ died to pay the price for my sin. Thank You that He rose again so that I have been made a new creation in Christ – and received my new life in Him. May the love of the Lord Jesus so flood and fill my being, that it not only flows out to others in thought and word, but in spirit, in truth – and in my every action and attitude. This I ask in Jesus name AMEN.

Praying through 1 John 3:19

Heavenly Father, it is a thing most wonderful to know we have all we need to live in love and to love others as Christ loved us. Help me to abide in Him and He in me so I may know I am walking in spirit and in truth. May I draw closer to You, every moment of the day, and may both my words and deeds be honouring to You. Help me to walk in righteousness all the days of my life, and may I keep the eyes of my heart on Jesus and maintain a clear conscience before You. Change me, I pray, from one state of glory to the next for the honour of Your name so that when I stand before You I may hear You say - well done good and faithful servant. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.”

For Those Who Feel Guilt After An Abortion

Loving Lord, I recently had an abortion because I was pregnant and did not want to have another baby, but since going through the abortion Lord, I find that I am beset about by guilt and my heart feels as if it is torn in two.

Lord, You have promised to be close to those whose hearts are breaking. I know that what I did was wrong, because You are the Lord of life, but Father, You are also the great God of comfort and the Comforter that has promised to be with us always and to comfort us in our distresses.

Lord I have just read the prayer ‘I Had An Abortion,’ and I thank You that You died to pay the price for all my sins, including this abortion. Lord, I know that any deep wound takes much time to heal, but I pray Lord, that You would start to mend my broken heart today and to soothe my smarting soul.

Give me the comfort that only comes from You to face the future, knowing that in Your sight I am pure and forgiven, and thank You for Your great assurance that there is no sin that is so bad that You are unwilling to forgive.

Thank You, in Jesus' name,

“For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.”
