Prayer for 1 John 2

Praying through 1 John 2:1

Heavenly Father, thank You that I can enjoy wonderful fellowship with You, simply because I have trusted Christ as my Saviour. I confess that there are times that sin has excluded me from Your presence. Help me to keep a short rein on such wrong-doing by flying to You to confess my sins. Thank You that the Lord Jesus is my righteous advocate Who ever lives to make intercession for me. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:”

Praying through 1 John 2:2

Heavenly Father, thank You that Christ is the propitiation for my sins and that His sacrificial death has paid the full price for my sins, brought me into eternal union with Himself, and returned me back into sweet fellowship with the Father. Thank You that by His glorious Resurrection, I have received newness of life and that this same offer of salvation is open to whosoever will believe. Thank You for all those who are coming to Christ in these last days. May many more come to a saving faith in Christ before it is too late. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”

Praying through 1 John 2:6

Heavenly Father, how wonderful to know that Christ's example is one that we can all follow - and that if we long to walk as He walked, in dependence on You... only saying and doing those things that are pleasing in Your sight.. we too need to abide in Christ so that His life may empower us to bring forth much fruit to Your praise and glory, AMEN

“He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”

Praying through 1 John 2:7

Heavenly Father, thank You for this new commandment which Jesus gave to His disciples, and has become such a well-loved old instruction which has been passed down through generations of believers to me. I desire to love others as Christ loved me, and to live my life as He lived, in ongoing and unbreakable fellowship with You. Thank You for the length, and breadth, and depth, and height, of His supernatural and never-ending, never-failing, love for me. Keep me low at the Cross and broken before You. May I quickly restore any fractured fellowship with You, through the immediate confession of my sin, and give me the grace to love others as Christ loved me, and gave Himself for me. This I pray in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.”

Praying through 1 John 2:8

Heavenly Father, thank You for the beautiful commandment of Christ, to love as He loves, which is ever old, yet ever new. Thank You that the thick, gloomy darkness, that has shrouded the heart of man for so long, was overcome by Jesus Christ, the Light of the world. Thank You that the darkness of sin, Satan, death, and hell is passing away and that the true Light of Life is already shining in our hearts, and in the lives of all who are saved by grace through faith in Him. May I be a true witness to Your goodness and grace, and may I learn to love as Christ loved, and to mirror His supernatural love in my life, for His praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name AMEN.

“Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.”

Praying through 1 John 2:11

Heavenly Father, what a sombre warning that we must never become embroiled in hatred toward a brother or sister in Christ. Forgive me for the times when others have irritated me or caused me to sin against them in my heart. Develop in me the love of Christ toward my Christian brethren and help me to keep the eyes of my heart on Jesus. Purify my heart, I pray, and help me to align my thoughts to Your thoughts, every moment of the day. Develop in me a supernatural love for my fellow believers which reflects the unchangeable love that the Lord Jesus has for me. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.”

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am a new creation in Christ and have a new nature. Thank You that I am positioned in Him and that this world is no longer my home, but I have a citizenship in heaven. Keep me from all worldly pursuits and may I walk in newness of life, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through 1 John 2:16

Heavenly Father, thank You for the important instructions in the first letter of John and the dangers of being influenced by the things of the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the boastful pride of life. Keep my eyes looking to Jesus and my heart pure before You. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

Heavenly Father, I know that the world is transient and at times I hang on to those things which I know are passing away. Help me to keep my eyes on You and help me to seek Your will in both the big and little things of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”

Praying through 1 John 2:18

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and this beautiful and instructive letter from John. Keep me from the deception and deceit of antichrists, false teachers, doctrines of demons, and the allure of worldly charms. Help me to shine as a child of light in an increasingly darkening world, to Your praise and glory and may Thy will be done, both in my life and in the wider world. Thank You, in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.”

Praying through 1 John 2:19

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many teachings that warn about false teachers. Help me to be discerning when meeting those who pretend to be believers yet live a lie and believe a false gospel. Give me wisdom, I pray, and help me to live in unity of the Body, to walk in spirit and truth, to remain doctrinally sound, and to live a life that honours Your name. Protect those that are deceived by false teachers and give them discernment to know the truth. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 1 John 2:23

Heavenly Father, thank You for the great truths that are contained in the epistles of John. Thank You that the Bible is very clear that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the living God and that by faith in Him alone we have forgiveness of sin and life eternal. May I hold fast to this truth all the days of my life and honour You, by confessing Jesus as God of gods and Lord of lords. Keep me, I pray, from being swayed by false teachings or deceived into denying the truth and help me to live and work to Your greater praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.”

Praying through 1 John 2:27

Heavenly Father, thank You for my salvation and the indwelling Holy Spirit. Thank You for the written Scriptures and the privilege of being in union with Christ, as part of His Body. I pray that I may be guided into all truth and given the wisdom and discernment to eschew what is evil and grow in understanding of the truth of the gospel, as I abide in Christ and He in me. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”

Praying through 1 John 2:28

Heavenly Father, I am excited for the soon return of Jesus for His Bride. I am looking forward to that day when He comes in the clouds for us to be with Him forever. I pray that when He comes, I will be found abiding in Him. I pray that I will be walking in spirit and truth and living a life that honours His holy name. Then, when I stand before His Bema Judgement Seat, I will not be ashamed but will hear Him say, "Well done, good and faithful servant, receive your reward." In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.”
