Prayer for 1 John 2

Thank You Father that I can enjoy wonderful fellowship with You, simply because I have trusted Christ as my Saviour. Father I confess that there are times that sin has excluded me from Your presence and I pray that I keep a short rein on such wrong-doing, by flying to You to confess my sins. Thank You that the Lord Jesus is my righteous advocate, Who ever lives to make intercession for me. Thank You, in Jesus name I pray AMEN.,

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:”

Heavenly Father, thank You that Christ is the propitiation for my sins and that His sacrificial death has paid the full price for my sins, brought me into eternal union with Christ and returned me back into sweet fellowship with the Father. Thank You that by His glorious resurrection, I have received newness of life in Christ and the opportunity to live godly in Him. Thank You that His offer of salvation is open to whosoever will believe.. and we pray that many would come to saving faith in Christ today.. knowing that He is the propitiation for the sin of the world, and that His grace is sufficient for all who will trust in Him as Saviour - in Whose name I pray, AMEN

“And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”

Heavenly Father, thank You that in Christ both the penalty for my sin has been paid and the power of sin in my life has been broken, enabling me to live my life as Christ lived His - in spirit and truth. May I submit to Your Holy Spirit's working within. May I live my life as Christ lived His life - in willing submission and total dependence upon You, in all I say and in all I do - to Your praise and glory, AMEN.

“And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.”

Loving Father I want to keep Your word in my heart and let the love of God flow out from me to others, to Your praise and glory in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, how wonderful to know that Christ's example is one that we can all follow - and that if we long to walk as He walked, in dependence on You... only saying and doing those things that are pleasing in Your sight.. we too need to abide in Christ so that His life may empower us to bring forth much fruit to Your praise and glory, AMEN

“He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for this new commandment which Jesus gave to His disciples and which has become such a well-loved old instruction - which has been passed down through generations of believers to me. I desire to love others as Christ loved me, and to live my life as He lived - in ongoing and unbreakable fellowship with You. Keep me low at the cross and broken before You. May I quickly restore any fractured fellowship with You, through the immediate, confession of my sin... and give me the grace to love others as Christ loved me, and gave Himself for me. This I pray in Jesus name, AMEN.

“Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for the beautiful commandment of Christ, to love as He loves, which is ever old, yet ever new. Thank You that the thick, gloomy darkness, that has shrouded the heart of man for so long, was overcome by Jesus Christ, the Light of the world. Thank You that the darkness of sin, Satan, death and hell is passing away and that the true Light of Life is already shining in our hearts, and in the lives of all who are saved by grace through faith in Him. May I be a true witness to Your goodness and grace, and may I learn to love as Christ loved, and to mirror His supernatural love in my life, for His praise and glory - this I ask in Jesus name AMEN.

“Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.”

Heavenly Father, what a sombre warning, that we must never become embroiled in hatred toward a brother or sister in Christ. Forgive me for the times when others have irritated me or caused me to sin against them in my heart. Develop in me the love of Christ, towards my Christian brethren, and help me to keep the eyes of my heart on Jesus. Purify my heart, I pray, and help me to align my thoughts to Your thoughts, every moment of the day. Develop in me a supernatural love for my fellow believers, which reflects the unchangeable love that the Lord Jesus has for me, and for all that are His. This I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.”

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am Your little child. Thank You that my sins are forgiven today and forever. Help me to grow in grace and in a knowledge of my Lord and Saviour - for His names sake, AMEN.

“I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.”

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am a new creation in Christ and have a new nature. Thank You that I am positioned in Him and that this world is longer my home - but that I have a citizenship in heaven. Keep me from all worldly pursuits.. and I pray that I may walk in newness of life to Your praise and glory - in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for the important instructions in the first letter of John and the dangers of being influenced by the things of the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the boastful pride of life. Keep my eye looking to Jesus; my heart pure towards You and help me to renounce the things of this world so that I do not become enmeshed in in the lustful leanings and ungodly enticements of the world, the flesh and the devil. I pray that I may live my life in loving obedience to Your word and renounce all that is evil. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

Loving Father, I know that the world is transient and at times I hang on to those things which I know are passing away. Help me to keep my eyes on You and help me to seek Your will in both the big and little things of my life, to Your praise and glory, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

“And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”

Praise for the First and Second Advents of the Lord

Dear Father God, how we rejoice when we call to our minds the glorious truth that the eternal Light of the world came to earth as a baby to become the Redeemer of mankind – to give His life for a lost world and to pour peace and hope into the hearts of a people who were estranged from their Creator God.

Father may our lives reflect His love as we look back in time to the first Advent of our Lord and Saviour – but let us never forget that there is a future Advent – a second coming when the earth will be filled with the glory of God once again – as the waters cover the sea.

Lord we know that You are returning and not as a tiny baby lying in a humble manger and wrapped in swaddling clothes but as a conquering King Who is to come to rescue His people Israel.

But Lord we know that first You are to come in the clouds to take Your church back to Your heavenly home – when the dead in Christ will rise first and we will all be changed in a moment - to become like unto You Lord Jesus.

Lord I pray that Your Church will prepare herself for Your soon return. Lord I pray that Your Body will be ready for that glorious day when You come to take us home to be with Yourself. Lord I beseech You that Your bride – who is the Church will be pure and holy, without spot and wrinkle or any such thing.. and Lord.. start that work in ME I pray, in Jesus name

“Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.”
(1 John 2:18)

Heavenly Father, thank You for the great truths that are contained in the epistles of John. Thank You that the Bible is very clear that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the living God and that by faith in Him alone we have forgiveness of sin and life eternal. May we hold fast to this truth all the days of our life and honour You, by confessing Jesus as God of gods and Lord of lords. Keep me I pray, from being swayed by false teachings or deceived into denying the truth and help me to live and work to Your greater praise and glory, this I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for my salvation and the indwelling Holy Spirit. Thank You for the written scriptures and the privilege of being in union with Christ- as part of His body. I pray that I may be guided into all truth, and given the wisdom and discernment to eschew what is evil and grow in understanding, of the truth of the gospel.. as I abide in Christ and He in me. This I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”

Heavenly Father, I pray that I may learn to abide in Christ and He in me, for Your greater praise and glory. I pray that I may walk in spirit and truth and live a life that honours Your holy name. I thank You that by grace, through faith in Christ, I have already received eternal life, and I pray that when I stand before His Bema-judgement-seat, I will not be ashamed at His coming, but will receive heavenly rewards, for Your praise. I pray that I may abide in Christ, live a godly life, walk in spirit and truth and carry out the good work that You had prepared for me to do. This I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.”
