Praying through Mark 1:1

Dear Lord, thank You for Your Word and the wonderful truth that it contains. Thank You that Jesus set aside His heavenly glory and took upon Himself the humble status of Servant of all so that He could identify with our humanity and pay the price for our sin - a price that we are unable to pay. I pray that I may follow in His footsteps and live in humble submission to Your Holy Spirit all the days of my life, and only do those things that I hear from You. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Mark 1:8

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus died for me and that I am saved by Your grace alone, through faith in Him. Thank You that the moment I believed on Him, I was baptised into the Body of Christ, positioned in Him, and became a member of His mystical Body, the Church. Thank You for the opportunity to proclaim outwardly my spiritual birth and privileged position in Christ, by going through the waters of baptism as an open declaration of my change of heart and my trust in Him. Thank You that my old sin nature is chained to the Cross and I have received newness of life. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.”

Praying through Mark 1:9

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus. Thank You that He came to identify with sinners such as I, so that by faith in Him, I might be forgiven of my sins and clothed in His righteousness. Thank You that the Lord Jesus came to fulfil all righteousness and lifted the curse of death from all who would believe on His name. Thank You that He was obedient in all things, even to death on the Cross, and thank You for the written Word of God which proclaims the end from the beginning. Help me to understand and apply all that You would teach me. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.”

Praying through Mark 1:14

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful way that Your truth is unfolded and Your Word is fulfilled in holy Scripture. Thank You for the lessons that we can learn from John the Baptist who faithfully fulfilled his calling, despite the cruel persecution he endured. Thank You for the example that Jesus gave us in those early years of His life and ministry, when He quietly waited until the appointed time to begin His work. Help me to follow their good example and be faithful to my calling, and give me the grace to wait for Your perfect timing in my life. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,”

Praying through Mark 1:15

Heavenly Father, thank You for the glorious gospel of Christ and that in Him I have forgiveness of sins. Thank You for the Word of truth that explains the gospel of God.. that it is only as we turn from sin, and believe in Christ as the promised Messiah of Israel and Saviour of the world that we can be reconciled back to You. Thank You that Jesus is the power of God and the wisdom of God for all who believe in Him and thank You that Your promises to Israel and those to the Church will all be fulfilled at the appointed time. Thank You in Jesus name, AMEN.

“And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

Praying through Mark 1:24

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus is the Holy One of God, Who came in the likeness of human flesh so that He could live a life of purity and truth and offer that perfect life as the acceptable offering for the sin of the world. He also came to destroy the works of the devil, and His work on the Cross and Resurrection from the dead has won victory over sin, Satan, death, and hell. Thank You that there is nothing in heaven, or earth, or under the earth, that is able to separate me from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus my Lord. In His name I pray, AMEN.

“Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.”
