Praying through John 13:1

Heavenly Father, what a wonderful Saviour is Jesus. I stand amazed at His heart of love for me and for all who have trusted Him as Saviour. He did not need to leave His home in glory and die for my sin, but He did it for love of me. Thank You that You will love me until the end of the world and then on into eternity. I love you, Lord. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.”
(John 13:1)

Praying through John 13:7

Heavenly Father, thank You for this precious picture in the upper room, when in humble submission to the Father’s will, the Lord Jesus laid aside His garment and began to wash the feet of His bewildered disciples. Lord, there are many times in my life that I do not understand the reason that You allow certain things to happen, but help me to simply trust You in all things and enable me to pray, "Thy will not mine be done." Open my understanding to all that You are seeking to teach me, and may I grow in grace as I submit to Your will for my life. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.”

Praying through John 13:13

Loving Father, sometimes I become so familiar with walking with You, day by day, that I forget the wonder of Who You truly are. Excite in me a wonderment of Who You truly are and the amazing grace that has been bestowed upon me. May I live a life to the praise and glory of your wonderful grace. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.”

Praying through John 13:14

Dear Heavenly Father, what a beautiful example the Lord Jesus Christ gave of how I should live my life. May I decrease in all I say and do so that the new-life in Christ may increase in me. May my life be one that is lived out in love and truth, and in humility and grace, so that Christ may be seen in me as I die to self and live to Him. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.”

Praying through John 13:15

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of godly living and holy behaviour that was seen reflected in the life of the Lord Jesus. I pray that I may walk as He walked and live my life as He lived... in spirit and in truth, in humble obedience to Your voice, in total dependence upon Your provision, and in grateful thanksgiving for all that You have done for me. Thank You in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.”

Praying through John 13:34

Father, may I live as Christ lived in spirit and truth, in submission to the Holy Spirit, and in obedience to Your will. May I love as Christ loved so that in myself I become nothing, in order that Christ may be seen in me and I can show forth His love in my life, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”

Praying through John 13:35

Loving Lord, I want to learn from You, to know You more, and to love You better, to walk in spirit and truth, to grow in grace, and in a knowledge of my Saviour, Jesus Christ. I want to love others as You love me. Let my life be a true testimony to the world that I am Your child, Your friend, Your bond-servant, and Your disciple, so that my life may bring honour to Your name. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

Praying through John 13:36

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus. Thank You that He was prepared to be the sacrifice for my sin and for the sin of the whole world. Thank You that He endured the Cross and all the suffering and pain that was inflicted on Him, the sinless Son of God, the perfect Son of Man, the spotless Lamb of God. I pray that I may know Him more and more and that I would be ready and willing to fellowship in His suffering here on earth, during my sojourn in a world that despises His name and rejects Your offer of salvation. I pray that many whose ears have been blocked and eyes blinded to the truth, would be convicted of their sin and place their trust in Him, before it is too late. Use me in whatever capacity You choose, and may I live, work, and if necessary die, for His dear name’s sake. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.”

Praying through John 13:37

Heavenly Father, thank You for the life, the ministry, and the example of Peter, the apostle who holds such a special place in the hearts of all who have trusted Christ for salvation. Like Peter, sometimes my faith falters and I let you down by relying on my own abilities, instead of trusting in Your sufficient strength. But You are always faithful to forgive my foolishness and return me into fellowship with Yourself, when I confess my faults. I pray that my zeal and love for the Lord Jesus would continue to develop and grow, so that like Peter, I would be bold in my faith and in the power of Your Holy Spirit, I would have the sufficient strength to overcome every difficulty in life. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.”

Praying through John 13:38

Heavenly Father, thank You for this lesson I can learn from Peter which highlights man's inability to do the good and eschew the evil, except in the strength of our God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Thank You that there is no sin too great that You will not forgive, for those that humbly acknowledge their need of salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Keep me from falling into the trap of pumping up my own self-confidence instead of trusting in Your sufficient strength, when faced with temptation and trial. This I ask in Jesus' precious name, AMEN.

“Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.”
