Prayer for Haggai 1

Choose Verse

Heavenly Father, thank You for the book of Haggai and the lessons we can learn from Israel's disobedience, indifference and compromise, when they failed to carry out the work You had prepared for them to do... in the rebuilding of the Temple. Thank You for the work You have prepared for me to do in my life and I pray that I would be obedient to Your call, diligent to carry out Your will and ready and willing to do only those things that honour Your name. Help me to walk in spirit and truth; become mature in the faith and work the works of God... according to Your word. Teach me all that You would have me to learn as I study the Scriptures... and keep me ever ready to put You first in my life, for Your greater praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name and for His honour. AMEN.

“In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,”

Heavenly Father, thank You for the amazing history of Your people Israel and the wonderful way that You use them to teach us spiritual truths, and warn us of the dangers of disobedience or carelessness, in our Christian lives. Thank You that I have the indwelling Holy Spirit and am a living stone in the spiritual Temple of God, which is being built up for Your eternal glory. May I live and work for Your everlasting praise, and keep me from wasting the precious time I have left, or shelving important spiritual things for the sake of the urgent!!! Thank You in Jesus name AMEN.

Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?”

Heavenly Father, how quick we are to recognise the faults and failings of Your people Israel, and yet I see I am guilty in neglecting my own duty towards You - which should be my delight and my joy, for by Your grace I have been forgiven of my sin; received life eternal and have all I need for life and godliness. Forgive me for the times I have placed my wants and wishes before honouring Your holy name and giving You the glory and respect You alone deserve. Thank You for the many blessings I have received at Your hand and help me never to become complacent about my great salvation in Christ - this I ask in His holy name, AMEN.

“Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for prophets like Haggai. May we learn from Israel's mistakes and seek to do only those things that honour Your holy name. Thank You that we do not live under the Law but in the dispensation of Grace. Thank You that we do not have to rebuild the Temple, offer animal sacrifices or keep special feast days in order to worship You. May I fulfil Your will for my life in the way I live, by only doing those things that honour Your name, and by offering myself as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You.. in thought, word, deed and the motives behind all I do. This I ask in Jesus' name and for His greater glory, AMEN.

“Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.”
