Prayer for 2 Peter 3

Praying through 2 Peter 3:1

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wisdom and instruction in Your Word which is my Shield and Buckler, my Rock, and the Anchor of my soul on which I secure my faith. Thank You that You moved holy men of God, like the apostle Peter, to instruct and guide, to warn and teach. I pray that, day by day, You would bring to my remembrance the things I have learned from the writings of Your apostles and prophets and guide me into all truth, for Your name's sake. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:2

Heavenly Father, thank You that Christ died for me and rose again the third day so that I might be reconciled to You. Thank You that You have revealed Your Word of truth to all Your children through Your holy prophets and apostles, for our learning, correction, and training in righteousness. Help me to cleave to the truth of Scripture and not to be influenced by false teachers, doctrines of demons, and extra-biblical revelation. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:3

Heavenly Father, it is not Your will that anyone should perish but that all should come to repentance and be saved, by grace though faith in Christ. Look down in pity on those that choose to scoff and mock at the glorious gospel of God. In Your mercy, grace, long-suffering, and great love, please open the eyes of some of these scoffers to the truth of Your Word. May they finally accept the free gift of salvation and be brought into Your kingdom. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:4

Heavenly Father, the world is willingly ignorant of the glorious gospel of grace and Christ’s astonishing, atoning sacrifice for sin. People scoff and mock at the predictions of His return to judge the world in righteousness. Lord, I plead Your mercy on all who mock and scorn the truth of Your Word and pray that some would be brought to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ Who died to save all who trust in Him as Saviour. I pray this in Jesus' precious name, AMEN.

“And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:5

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many reminders in Scripture to hold fast to the truth of Your Word. Help me to continuously bring to mind that You are my great and mighty Creator Who spoke the world into being and fashioned man in Your own image. Thank You that despite the sin of our forefathers, You purposed to redeem mankind by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. As the day of His return draws ever closer and so many are choosing to remain ignorant of the things of God, I pray that in Your grace You would convict many of their need of Christ and restore hope to those that are lost. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:6

Heavenly Father, as the united voice of scoffers clamour against Your Word and insist that You will never judge the world as You did in Noah’s day, it is clear that we are now in those predicted perilous times when arrogant men are lovers of self, haters of God, and weighed down with sin. Give me the wisdom to know what to do when confronted by the deception of this age, and I pray that I may be clothed with the armour of God so that I may stand firm in the faith. Help me to be a witness of the truth of Your Word and warn others of the impending judgement that You have clearly laid out in Your Word. Open the eyes of those that have been blinded to the truth and bring many into the kingdom, for Your dear name’s sake. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:7

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that gives us hope. You have promised us a new heaven and a new earth that will be free of ungodliness. I praise You that You have explained future events in Your Word and that the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, for the day of judgement, and the destruction of ungodly men. Help me to share the gospel with all I meet so that many may come to a saving knowledge of Christ and be spared a part in the Lake of Fire. In Jesus' name, Amen.

“But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:8

Loving Lord, how wonderful You are. Thank You that You created time, but You are not constrained by it. Thank You that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. Give me patience as I expectantly wait for Your any day return to rapture Your Bride, knowing that Your timing is always perfect. And may I rest in You, knowing my times are in Your hands. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:9

Heavenly Father, I praise Your wonderful name for your long-suffering attitude toward me, Your errant child, and toward the whole world. I am sorry for those times when I have wondered why Jesus has not returned yet. Help me see the unsaved world through Your eyes of love, that You want all to be saved. Give me a hunger to spread Your saving gospel of grace to a lost world. I know that Jesus is coming back at the right time. I pray that many may come to faith in You, while there is still time. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:10

Heavenly Father, thank You that You planned and purposed to redeem mankind and to restore the earth to its former glory. Thank You for telling us the end before the beginning so that we may not fear all that is coming on the earth but understand that Christ won the victory on the Cross and will finally and fully reclaim all that belongs to Him, for Your greater glory. May I be ready for the any day return of Jesus in the clouds for His Bride so that the day does not overtake me like a thief in the night. Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus! AMEN.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:11

Heavenly Father, thank You for telling us the fate of the heavens and the earth; that it will all be burned up, pass away, and be dissolved. It helps to put into perspective my love for this world and the things of this world, compared with the things of You which will never pass away. Help me to hold onto everything of this world lightly and to draw ever closer to You, day by day, being conformed into Your image. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:12

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word which lays out Your perfect schedule for the fulfilment of Your perfect plan... when man’s redemption will be fully and finally completed and every enemy, including death, will be placed under Your feet. Thank You that the day is coming when Jesus will return in the clouds to take His Church to be with Himself, and I look forward to that blessed hope with grateful thanksgiving and great expectation. I praise You that during the Great Tribulation, Israel will be restored into fellowship with You and many believers will escape the jaws of hell by calling on the name of the Lord. Thank You, Father, that Satan will finally be imprisoned and that You have ordained that Your Church will rule and reign with Christ in His coming kingdom. I pray for His soon return so that all things may be placed back under Your sovereign authority. This I pray in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 3:13

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your perfect plan of salvation. Thank You that You have given fallen man so much time to choose to accept Your gift of salvation by faith and to be born again into Your heavenly kingdom. Thank You that the troubles and trials of this present age will one day cease, and that believers have the hope and blessing of ruling and reigning with Christ in His Millennial Kingdom. Thank You that in the ages to come, heaven and earth will be free of all the residue of sin and Satan, as You will destroy the old and create new heavens and a new earth. May I play my part in Your eternal plan and purpose and live my life today in a way that points the world to Christ. May I honour Your holy name in thought, word, and deed. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:14

Heavenly Father, thank You for the urgency of Peter's epistle. May I take note of the warning to identify error and pursue His perfect peace as the time for Christ's return draws ever closer. May I rest in Him and, in the power of the Holy Spirit, be spotless in thought, word, deed, and motive, for I desire to live blamelessly before Your face. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:15

Heavenly Father, thank You that holy men of God wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit, to reveal Your plans and purposes for salvation. Thank You for apostles and prophets like Peter and Paul who have told us the end from the beginning so that in the power of the Holy Spirit, we may grow in grace. Help me to be diligent to guard my heart and keep my eyes looking to Jesus. Thank You that You are a good and long-suffering God, and that it is not Your will that any should perish but that all sinners should come to repentance. I pray that in the time we have left, before Your righteous judgement is poured out on those who reject Your offer of salvation, many sinners would repent of their sins and turn to Christ for forgiveness. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:16

Heavenly Father, thank You for the writings of Peter, Paul, and all holy men of God who wrote the Scriptures. Thank You that You have given us all we need to live godly lives and to understand the times in which we live. Give me greater insight into those Bible passages that unscrupulous and ignorant men like to distort and twist, through their own pride, ignorance, or lack of diligent study. I pray that I would not be swept along by false teachings but become increasingly grounded on the Word of truth. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:18

Heavenly Father, I pray that I may know Jesus more and more with every passing day. I thank You for the amazing grace You have poured out on me and pray that I may grow in grace, day after day, for Your honour and glory. Thank You for Your Word that opens up the glorious truth that Christ died for us, was buried, and rose again so that all who believe on Him might not perish but have everlasting life. I pray that I may grow in the knowledge of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, to Whom be all honour and glory both now and into the day of eternity. This I pray in Jesus' precious name, AMEN.

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
