Prayer for 2 Peter 3

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wisdom and instruction we have in Your Word. Thank You that Your word is our shield and buckler – our rock, and the anchor of our soul. on which we are to secure our faith. Thank You that You moved holy men of God, like the apostle Peter, to instruct and guide, to warm and teach. I pray that day by day You would bring to my remembrance the things I have learned from the writings of Your apostles and prophets and guide me into all truth I pray, for Your name's sake. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:”

Heavenly Father, thank You that Christ died for me and rose again the third day, so that I might be reconciled to You and be made your child by adoption. Thank You that You have revealed Your Word of truth to all Your children through Your holy prophets and apostles.. for our learning, correction and training in righteousness. Help me to cleave to the truth of Scripture, and not to be influenced by false teachers, doctrines of demons and extra-biblical revelation - this I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:”

Heavenly Father, it is not Your will that anyone should perish but that all should come to repentance and be saved, by grace though faith in Christ.. Look down in pity on those that choose to scoff and mock at the glorious Gospel of God and we pray that in Your mercy, grace, long-suffering and great love, some might have their eyes opened to the truth of Your Word, and be brought into Your kingdom - in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,”

Heavenly Father, the world is willingly ignorant of the glorious gospel of grace and Christ's astonishing, atoning sacrifice for sin and the world scoffs and mocks at the predictions of His return to judge the world in righteousness. Lord we plead Your mercy on all who mock and scorn the truth of Your Word and pray that some would be brought to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, Who died to save all who trust in Him as Saviour. In Your wrath and judgement on a sinful world, we pray for Your grace and mercy towards the unsaved children of men - this we ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many reminders, in the Scripture, to hold fast to the truth of Your word. Help me to continuously bring to mind that You are our great and mighty Creator, Who spoke the world into being, and fashioned man in Your own image. Thank You that despite the sin of our forefathers, You purposed to redeem mankind, by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. As the day of His return draws ever closer, and scoffers abound, we pray that in Your grace You would convict many of their need of Christ - and restore hope to those that are lost - in Jesus name we pray, AMEN.

“For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:”

Heavenly Father, as the united voice of scoffers clamour against God's Word and mock the truths it contains, we recognise that we are subjects of the predicted perilous times, when arrogant men are lovers of self; haters of God and weighed down with sin. Give me the wisdom to know what to do when confronted by the evils of this age and I pray that I may stand fast in the evil day and be clothed with the armour of God, so that I may stand firm in the faith; witness of the truth of Your word, and warn others of impending judgement. Open the eyes of those that have been blinded to the truth and bring many into the kingdom, we pray, for Your dear name's sake - this we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:”

Loving Father, how wonderful You are. I praise Your name for Your grace and wisdom and pray that I may watch for Your any day return to rapture Your children with increasing expectancy, knowing that my times are in Your hands, in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

Heavenly Father, thank You that You planned and purposed to redeem mankind, and to restore the earth to its former glory. Thank You for telling us the end before the beginning, so that we may not fear all that is coming on the earth, but understand that Christ won the victory on the cross.. and will finally and fully reclaim all that belongs to Him, for Your greater glory. Thank You that I am Your child and have been redeemed by grace - through faith in Christ. May I live my life for His praise and glory - in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your perfect plan of Salvation. Thank You that You have given Your fallen creation so much time to be brought into this world, and to be born-again into Your heavenly kingdom. Thank You that the troubles and trials of this present age will one day cease, and that we have the hope and blessing of ruling and reigning with Christ, in His millennial kingdom. Thank You that in the ages to come, heaven and earth will be free of all the residue of sin and Satan. May we play our part in Your eternal plan and purpose,  and live our lives in a way that points the world to Christ, and may we honour His holy name in thought, word and deed Use me for the furtherance of Your kingdom, I pray, and bring many sinners to faith, through the powerful convicting work of the Holy Spirit – this we ask in Jesus name AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the urgency of Peter’s epistle. May we take note of his warning to identify error and pursue His perfect peace, as the time for Christ’s return draws ever closer. May I rest in Him, and in the power of the Holy Spirit be spotless in thought, word deed and motive... for I desire to live blamelessly before Your face. Prevent me from being deceived by corrupt and evil men and keep my heart and mind on things above. This I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for the truth of Your Word. Thank You that holy men of God wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit to reveal Your plans and purpose for salvation and thank You for apostles and prophets like Peter and Paul, who have told us the end from the beginning so that in the power of the Holy Spirit we may grow in grace. Help us to be diligent to guard our heart and keep our eye looking to Jesus. Thank You that You are a good and long-suffering God and that it is not Your will that any should perish, but that all sinners should come to repentance. I pray that in the time we have left – before Your righteous judgement is poured out on those who reject Your offer of salvation, many sinners would repent of their sins and turn to Christ for forgiveness. This we ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;”

Heavenly Father, thank You for the writings of Peter, Paul and all holy men of God who wrote the Scriptures. Thank You that You have given us all we need to live godly lives and to understand the times in which we live. Give us greater insight into those Bible passages that unscrupulous and ignorant men like to distort and twist, through their own pride, ignorance or lack of diligent study. I pray that I would not be swept along by false teachings but become increasingly grounded on the Word of Truth – this I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”

Father, I pray that I may know Jesus more and more with every passing day. I thank You for the amazing grace You have poured out on me and pray that I may grow in grace day after day, for Your honour and glory. Thank You for the truth of Your word and for apostles like Peter and Paul whom You used to open up the glorious truth that Christ died for us, was buried and rose again so that all who believe on Him might not perish but have everlasting life. I pray that I may grow in grace and in a knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ - to Whom be all honour and glory both now and into the day of eternity - this I pray in Jesus' precious name, AMEN.

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
