Praying through Matthew 5:2

Heavenly Father, thank You for the Sermon on the Mount and the many things that can be learned from the truths contained within its message. Thank You that Jesus is the Messiah of Israel Who will one day be crowned as their King. Thank You that He came as my Saviour to pay the price for my sin and break the power of sin and death. Thank You for the indwelling Holy Spirit of God, and that by Your grace my heart has been made new. May I live a life that honours Your name, and may I walk in spirit and truth all the days of my life. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

For America As A Nation Who Has Lost Its Way

Loving Lord, I come to You to place the once great nation of United States of America at Your feet, knowing that our great country and it's constitution was made for a moral and religious people and is wholly inadequate for any other form of government, and yet we have strayed so far from the principles and practices of our great founders, who drew up our constitution based on Your Word.

But Lord, although this was once the land of the brave and the home of the free, sadly there is so much that is wrong with our country that I fear for its future. Lord, as a people we have walked away from You and discredited Your holy name by the way that we have conducted ourselves over the past few years and there is no health in our land.

Look down in pity on our people and our land, and protect us from those that seem determined on destroying our nation. Send Your Spirit I pray, through the land of America, and touch the hearts of all those that are called by Your name to plead on behalf our people. Convict those that are damaging our infrastructure and as a nation may we turn away from our wicked ways and return You to Your rightful position, in integrity and truth.

I ask this in Jesus' name,

Amen.

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

Praying through Matthew 5:14

God of light, and life, and peace, I bring before You a world that is ravaged by war and suffering, disaster and distress, through the actions and attitudes of selfish men. I pray that the light of Christ would illuminate a dark world that has chosen to turn its back on the One Who is the true Light of the world. Use me in the corner of the world where You have placed me, to bring the light, life, and love of Christ, to a hurting world. Keep me ever mindful that without You I can do nothing, but in the strength and power of Your Holy Spirit, I am enabled to act as Your hands, Your feet, and Your heart, to those in need. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”

Father, I pray that the light of Christ in my heart may shine brightly before men, in such a way that they may see the good works that I do in Your power and strength, and glorify You, my Lord and my God. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through Matthew 5:17

Heavenly Father, I confess that I am a guilty sinner and deserving of punishment for my sin. Thank You that in Your grace, You gave the Lord Jesus to live a sinless life and take the punishment for my sins. Through His life and death, I have been removed from the curse of the Law and set free from Your righteous condemnation. Thank You, Father, in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”

Praying through Matthew 5:18

Heavenly Father, what a comfort to me that not only are You in charge of the big picture of life, but also, not one tiny detail escapes Your notice. Thank You that everything You have written in Your Word will come to pass, just as You have said. As I read Your plan of redemption woven through all the pages of Scripture and come to understand what Christ did for me when He came to earth to die on the Cross for my sins and rose again the third day, the more I am filled with awe and wonder at the goodness and greatness of Your plans and purposes for this fallen race of man. How I praise and thank You for Your goodness and grace toward us. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”

Praying through Matthew 5:20

Dear Heavenly Father, I am not worthy to gather up the crumbs under Your table, and yet You have forgiven my sin and have clothed me in Christ's righteousness, simply because I trusted in Jesus as Saviour. I pray that He will live His life through me, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

Praying through Matthew 5:39

Heavenly Father, help me to become more and more like the Lord Jesus Christ, in thought, word, and deed. Help me not to repay evil with evil or insult with insult. Help me not to resist an evildoer or retaliate when I am abused or slighted for His name's sake. I pray that in the power of the indwelling Spirit, to seek after that which is good, and be ready and willing to turn the other cheek. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.”
