Praying through Genesis 22:1

Heavenly Father, I know we are called to live by faith and not by sight, signs, logic, or intuition. I believe Your Word and do not want anything or anyone in my life, to take Your place. Father, I want to offer You my life as a living sacrifice. I want to listen to Your voice and to obey all that I am called upon to do, and I pray that in the power of the Holy Spirit, I may die to my own desires and live for Christ alone, This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.”

Praying through Genesis 22:2

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of people like Abel, Noah, Job, and Abraham, who believed Your Word and their faith was credited to them as righteousness. Thank You that You are faithful to Your Word, and that Your desire is for my faith to grow in You. Increase my trust in Your Word of truth, and may my life become a witness to Your never-failing faithfulness. May I continue to grow in grace and mature in the faith, and may I count it all joy when I am called to suffer for righteousness sake, for Your greater glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.”
(Genesis 22:2)

Praying through Genesis 22:3

Loving Father, I thank You for Abraham's example of trusting faith and faithful obedience. I ask that whatever tests and trials I may have to face that, like him, I will be quick to obey Your leading, knowing that Your eternal purposes are wider than my limited perspective. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.”

Praying through Genesis 22:6

Heavenly Father, thank You for using this beautiful picture of Abraham and Isaac as such an astonishing foreshadowing of Christ’s death, burial, and Resurrection after three days. Thank You that He paid the price for sin - for my sin - for all sin. I stand in awe and wonder that Jesus gave His life willingly as a freewill offering and that He was given by the Father for the love of such as me. Thank You, in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.”

Praying through Genesis 22:7

Heavenly Father, thank You for painting so many pictures of Christ in the Old Testament and for the lives of Abraham and Isaac who so clearly represent elements of what God the Father and God the Son together endured to take away my sin. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for giving Your life as the ransom price for my soul. I pray that I would increasingly come to an understanding of what it cost for You to pay for my sin. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”

Praying through Genesis 22:9

Heavenly Father, thank You for the amazing life-story of Abraham, who demonstrated through his acts of faith and obedience, the importance of trusting You in all things, even when human logic and understanding deny the circumstances. Thank You that You use all things together for the good of those that love You. Help me to understand that You are carrying out Your purposes in the lives of each of Your children, as You carry forward Your redemptive plan for the world. I pray You would open up my understanding, more and more, to the wonderful things within Your Word. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.”

Praying through Genesis 22:14

Heavenly Father, what a wonderful God You are! I praise Your holy name for all Your goodness and loving kindness to me and all people, by sending Your only begotten Son to take the punishment that I deserve. Thank You that You continue to provide for my daily needs, my Father. Thank You that in Your graciousness, You provide for all Your children, according to Your own promise, Yahweh-Yireh (Jehovah-jireh), the Lord will provide. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.”

Praying through Genesis 22:18

Heavenly Father, thank You for the faith demonstrated by Abraham and for the Lord Jesus Christ, the Seed of Abraham, Whom You sent to earth to be our Kinsman Redeemer by willingly offering His life as the required payment for sin. Help me to develop an unshakable inward faith and to be ready and willing to demonstrate it in word and deed, through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.”
