Prayer for Acts 1

Praying through Acts 1:1

Heavenly Father, thank You for this momentous truth, that Christ has never ceased to work and to teach from the moment that He was born in Bethlehem as the eternal Son of God, clothed in a Body that God had prepared for Him. Thank You that I am part of His Body, the Church. Use me, I pray, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,”

Praying through Acts 1:3

Heavenly Father, thank You that without faith, it is impossible to please You. But thank You also, that You gave us so many infallible proofs surrounding the Person and work of Jesus. Help me to live by faith and not by sight, for I believe that all You have purposed and planned will come to fruition, in Your time, in Your way, and to Your praise and glory, AMEN.

“To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:”

Praying through Acts 1:4

Heavenly Father, thank You that You have not hidden the truth from us, but revealed it in Your Word. Thank You that I am part of that great cloud of Church-age believers who are witnesses to the truth of the glorious gospel of grace, which was started at Pentecost and which has spread to every nation and tribe, people, and language. Thank You that I have been born again by the power of the Holy Spirit and baptised into the Body of Christ, which had its beginning in that special room on that first day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was sent to be the permanent, indwelling Helper for all Christians. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.”

Praying through Acts 1:5

Loving Father, thank you for Your Word and for Your understanding. Thank You that I have been baptised into the Body of Christ by Your Holy Spirit and that He now lives in me forever. What a mystery that You should take up permanent residence in my weak and frail body, but I praise Your name for all Your goodness and loving kindness to me and to all Your children. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”

Praying through Acts 1:6

Heavenly Father, thank You for the Word of God and the truth that it contains. Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to indwell all who have trusted in Christ for salvation and for the promise that He will guide us into all truth. Help me to be a diligent student of Your Word, with a teachable spirit and a desire for the truth. Thank You that Your promises to Israel still stand and that one day they will all be fulfilled. Give their leaders wisdom in these difficult days, when all the people of the world seem to be turning their back on Your chosen people. Hasten the day when Your kingdom will at last be set up, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?”

Praying through Acts 1:7

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many promises and prophecies that You have graciously given to us in Your Word. Thank You for giving me such great understanding of the times in which I live and the blessed hope that is set before me. Keep me from attempting to look into the finer details of Your plans and purposes which You have not disclosed, but which are fixed by Your own sovereign authority. Prevent me from distorting the truth of the glorious gospel of God, in order to satisfy any fleshly curiosity. Help me to study the whole council of God so that I do not get hoodwinked by any extra-biblical teachings or unbiblical 'interpretation' of Your Word. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.”

Praying through Acts 1:8

Heavenly Father, thank You that I have been saved by grace, through faith in Christ, and have been baptised into His Body. Thank You that Your Holy Spirit lives in me, and I have been given all that I need to live godly in Christ Jesus. I pray that I may be a good and faithful witness in the place where You have planted me, knowing that I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me and empowers me with His own resurrected Life. To Him be all praise and glory, AMEN.

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Praying through Acts 1:9

Loving Father, thank You that Jesus told us that He will return to earth in like manner as the disciples saw Him go into heaven, on that wondrous Ascension morning. What a wonderful day that will be when Jesus comes in the clouds, back to earth to set up His Millennial Kingdom where He will rule and reign with righteousness and power for 1000 years. Thank You that as a believer in Him and part of the Bride of Christ, I will come with Him from heaven and rule and reign with Him on earth. Keep my eyes fixed on Jesus as I await the any day Rapture of the Church, when Jesus will take us up to heaven, to await this glorious return to earth. To Him be all honour, and glory, and strength, and majesty, for ever and ever, AMEN.

“And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.”

Praying through Acts 1:10

Loving Father, thank You for the hope of our resurrection and rapture knowing that the Lord Jesus is the firstborn from the dead. Because He lives we too will live, and that day He is coming to take us to be with Himself. Thank You for this hope in my heart. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;”

Praying through Acts 1:11

I praise Your name, Heavenly Father, that Jesus will return to earth to claim His rightful position as King of kings and Lord of lords at the end of the Great Tribulation. Thank you for the blessed hope I have, that I will partake in the Rapture of the Church before the Tribulation period begins when: "The dead in Christ shall rise first, then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will ever be with the Lord." May I live each day of my life in a way that is pleasing to You, a life that points others to the Lord Jesus as the soon coming Saviour of the world. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”
(Acts 1:11)

Praying through Acts 1:14

Loving Father, help me to turn the eyes of my heart towards You in an attitude of persistent-prayer as did those first disciples of Christ, on the days leading up to Pentecost. Thank You that I already have the indwelling Spirit of God with me and living within me, to lead and guide in all the difficulties that I am facing. Look down on Your people and instil in the hearts of all of us, that dear desire to be united in spirit and devoted to prayer, until Jesus comes. Lord, I pray that in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, I will hand all my cares to You. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.”
(Acts 1:14)

Praying through Acts 1:22

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and the truth that it contains. Thank You for the lessons I can learn from its pages and Your amazing plan of salvation. Thank You for sending Jesus to earth to become the sacrifice for my sin and the sin of the whole world, and I praise and glorify Your name that whosoever believes on Him will not perish but have everlasting life. And thank You for Paul and the other 12 apostles who, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, laid the foundation of our Christian faith through their inspired writings. Help me to study the Scriptures to show myself approved unto God, and may I build my life on this sure foundation. Let the love and goodness of Jesus be seen in me. This I ask in His name, AMEN.

“Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.”
