Prayer for 1 Corinthians 7

Choose Verse

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your guidance on Christian marriages, the single state and celibacy - both in Paul's letter to the Corinthians and throughout Your word. Thank You for the institution of marriage and the many instructions given to married couples and those that remain unmarried. I pray that in whatever state I find myself, during my time on earth, my life would be a living sacrifice unto God and I would conduct myself as unto the Lord. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.”
(1 Corinthians 7:8)

Reconciliation for an Estranged Wife

Dear Father God, I am so distressed because my wife of many years has walked out on me, intending to carve out a future without me. Oh Lord, she is my wife and I love her so dearly but we are now estranged from each other and my life is falling apart without her.

I need You Lord, to uphold me with Your gracious right hand and pray that in Your time and Your way You would reconcile our differences and enable us to move forward with greater love and understanding than we had before.

Forgive me Lord for the part that I played in causing this estrangement between us to develop – without recognising the signs that were happening. Lord I was not the husband I could have been – of should have been… and though there were faults on both sides, I pray that You will help us to reconcile the difficulties between us and bring us back together and reunite us in love again. Lord that I may learn to love as You loved us – knowing that love suffers long and in kind – and thinks for the other.. Help me Lord to be the husband I should be – and bring us back into each other arms I pray…

Thank You Lord for hearing my prayer,

“But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.”

Prayer For The Church To Be Sanctified

Father, we pray that as members of the body of Christ we may learn to be imitators of You and to walk in love, with one another.. just as the Lord Jesus Christ loved us and gave Himself as an offering and sweet-smelling sacrifice - holy and acceptable to God.

Thank You Father that in Christ we are children of the light. May we walk in the light of the Lord, Who is the Way, the Truth, the Light and the Life - and Lord we know that Your purpose for the Church is to transform each one into the likeness of the Lord Jesus – until He is all in all.

We pray that as member of His body we may walk in all goodness and righteousness and live a life that is honoring to You. Teach us we pray to do only those things that are pleasing in Your sight and we ask that every member of the body of Christ may be sanctified – set apart unto You and cleansed with the washing of the water by the word of God, and made holy in thought word and deed.

We pray that the Church may be purified by the Spirit of power, so that she may be without spot or wrinkle or any such thing – but holy and blameless before You in love – We ask this in Jesus name

“For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.”
(1 Corinthians 7:14)

Heavenly Father, thank You for my life and for the gifts and graces that have been given me from above. May I walk in a way that honours You in my marriage, my home and my church family. May I conduct myself in the situation to which You have assigned me. May my choices in life be wise and honourable and may I become increasingly conformed into Christ’s image and likeness, so that others may see Jesus in me, to the glory of His name. This I ask in Jesus’ name, AMEN.

“But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.”

Heavenly Father, thank You that Your born-again children are not bound to any cultural rules, religious rituals or nationalistic identities. Thank You that whosoever will may come to Christ and be saved by grace through faith in Him. Help me to obey Your Word, keep Your commands and do only those things that honour Your name, so that I may grow from Christian babyhood into a mature man of God – this I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.”

To Be Freed From My Burdensome Addiction

Dear Lord Jesus, my addiction is a terrible burden and a such a shame to me and yet I find myself constantly returning to behaviours that I hate and long to be able to shed. I am so ashamed Lord and yet I know that You were the One Who said that You came to set the captives free – and Lord I am a captive. I am a captive and slave of this terrible addiction and yet to long to be freed and to live a normal life.

Free me Lord I pray from this compulsion for it is stifling my life and has cost me many dear friends as well as my job – but I long to be free to live as I ought.

I have heard the gospel and I do believe that Jesus died to take the full punishment for all my sins, including my addiction and I believe that He rose the third day, which broke the power of death in the lives of all who believe – so I am coming to you to ask You Lord to give me the abundant life that You have promised. I know that eternal life is now my portion but I pray that I may be free of my addiction in this life so that I may serve You as You deserve, I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus.

“Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.”
(1 Corinthians 7:21)

Heavenly Father, thank You that in Christ I have been set free from the bondage of sin and death, and that in Christ I have been made free indeed. Today I offer myself as Your bond-slave, to will.. and to do only those things that You would have me do - for I have been bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ my God and my Saviour - in Whose name I pray, AMEN.

“For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant.”

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am in Christ and that I have been purchased by His precious blood and have a high and heavenly calling - which is to live my life as unto You. Keep me faithful to my calling in Christ and may I not allow my spiritual walk to be influenced by the circumstances in which I find myself, but live my life to Your praise and glory, and in humble obedience to my heavenly calling - this I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.

“Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.”

Guide Me Through All Of Life’s Obstacles

Help me Lord Jesus to keep my whole focus on You. Life is becoming so hard and difficult that at times it is not easy to keep the eyes of my heart looking to Jesus as I know I should – for without Him I can do nothing…At times Lord I feel that I am losing my way in life but I know that as I rest in You, I will hear the gentle promptings from Your Spirit saying, “this is the way – walk in it…”

Sometimes Lord, I confess that when things get tough I try in my own strength to sort out my own problems - and work out what I ought to do myself, without turning to You first… and inevitably I seem to make the wrong choice…I know that You have a plan for my life – and I also know that living in this world is not easy – but I also know that my sufficiency is in You and that Your strength is made perfect as I rest in You – help me to apply this truth in my life.

Guide me Lord through all the obstacles of life and help me with the many choices I have to make on a daily basis. May I truly learn to look to You as my Guide and Strength, in Jesus name I pray,

“But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.”
