Prayer for 1 Thessalonians 4

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 4:1

Loving Father, what a wonderful privilege that You should call such a person as me into your own kingdom, and into Your glory. In the power of the Holy Spirit, I ask You to guide and direct me today, in all that I say and think and do. I pray I may live a sanctified life and walk in a worthy manner that brings glory to You. Keep me mindful of Paul’s teachings on living a spiritual life, and may I be a witness of Your grace to all with whom I come in contact. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 4:3

Heavenly Father, thank You for Paul's important teaching on positional and ongoing, practical sanctification, and the need to be holy and pure in thought, word, deed, and motive. Keep me from every sort of ungodly activity and any sexual immorality. I pray that I may dedicate my life to Your service and present my body as a living sacrifice to You, holy and acceptable in Your service. Thank You that I am already positionally sanctified, by faith in the sacrificial work of Christ on the Cross, and I pray for my ongoing, practical sanctification. Transform me, day by day, into the image and likeness of the lovely Lord Jesus. This I ask in His precious name and for His name's sake, AMEN.

“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 4:4

Heavenly Father, thank You that I have everything I need for life and godliness. Keep me pure in thought, word, and deed, and give me the strength to live in this earthly vessel in a manner that pleases You and honours Your name. Thank You that I have the indwelling Holy Spirit and that my body is a temple of God. May I grow in grace, abide in Christ, and possess this bodily vessel in sanctification. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 4:5

Heavenly Father, I praise and thank You for the many truths contained in the Scripture and the many lessons You want to teach me through the epistles of Paul and the other apostles of Christ. Give me ears that are willing to hear Your voice, eyes to see what You want me to see, and a teachable heart that is open to the challenges You give me. I confess, there have been times when I have left my first love and strayed back into the ways of the world. I pray that You would search my heart and cleanse me within, and keep me walking on the road of righteousness, for His name's sake, AMEN.

“Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 4:6

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wake-up call that there are many ways that I can defraud someone, in thought, word, and deed. I seek to live in purity of heart and walk in spirit and in truth, for Your glory and the benefit of my neighbour. Forgive me for the times when I have not lived according to Your perfect will. Keep me from falling into sin, and may I never forget that there are consequences to all wrongdoing and that You are a God Who is the Avenger in all things. Thank You, Lord, that there is no sin so great that it cannot be forgiven. I confess before You my hidden sins, and thank You for the forgiveness of sin and life everlasting. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 4:7

Heavenly Father, thank You for my salvation, and I praise You for being the source of my life and my eternal hope. I pray that I may live in purity of heart and in sanctification. Help me to eschew all that is unclean and impure. Help me to grow in grace, mature in the faith, and live my life in holiness and righteousness all my days, for Your greater praise and glory. This I ask Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.”

Teach Me To Abide In You

Oh, thank You Lord Jesus, my heavenly Vine, for the fullness of Your blessing towards me. I want to know and understand more and more of what it means to simply rest in You. May I abide in You, in sweet union with my Saviour and remain in blessed communion with You in ever closer intimacy.

Teach me, Lord, and train me to rest in Your love. Guard me and guide under the shelter of Your canopy, and reveal more and more of Yourself to me I pray,

Amen.

“But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.”

Praying through 1 Thessalonians 4:13

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus is my blessed Hope, that He died to pay the price for my sins, and rose again, breaking the power of sin and death in my life and the lives of all who trust in His name. Thank You that I am positioned in Christ, accepted in the Beloved, and that my citizenship is in heaven. How I praise You that I have been given eternal life and have a future hope in the Lord, and thank You, Father, that death is simply the doorway into a future life with Christ, when I will see You as You are. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for these comforting words and the beautiful truth that we have an eternal inheritance, kept for us in heaven. Praying through 1 Thessalonians 4:17

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful truth that Jesus is coming to take us to be with Himself forever. May I prepare my heart and soul to be ready for that special day when the trump of God sounds and both the dead and living members of Your Body will receive our new, eternal bodies. I long for that day when we will all be translated into Your presence, but in the meantime, I pray that I may live and work to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
