Praying through Nehemiah 1:3

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Nehemiah who not only grieved at the state of his nation and repented of their sin, but trusted You to fulfil Your promises to Your people Israel by offering himself to be used by You, to fulfil Your plans for His people. May I grieve and repent for the sorry state of the Church today and maintain my faith in You to fulfil all Your promises to the Church. May I be part of a faithful remnant whom You use to forward Your plans and purposes in a world that is spiralling out of control - to Your praise and glory so that the world may KNOW that You are the Lord. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.”

Praying through Nehemiah 1:4

Heavenly Father, too often I have tried to deal with the problems in my own life, instead of flying to Your throne of grace for mercy and help in time of need. I pray that my faith may increase and my prayer life may reflect the continuous communion that the Lord Jesus enjoyed with You, in His earthly life. I pray that I may learn to approach You in confidence and in reverence. Help me to pray into Your will and purpose. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,”

Praying through Nehemiah 1:5

Heavenly Father, thank You for the exemplary life of Nehemiah and for the wonderful way that He immediately turned to You in humble prayer and supplication, when confronted with insurmountable difficulty. May I, in like manner, not sidestep Your sufficient provision nor try to solve the problems of life on my own. When I see the increasingly tense situation on today’s world scene, may I turn to You in loving trust, praying for Your will to be done in all circumstances. In Jesus' name. AMEN.

“And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:”

Praying through Nehemiah 2:4

Heavenly Father, thank You for men of prayer like Paul, Nehemiah, Daniel and also the Lord Jesus, who have become such examples to follow in the important ministry of prayer. Teach me how to pray without ceasing and to pray effectively. Help me develop a practice of powerful, prolonged, and effective prayer. Use me in whatever way You choose to carry out Your plans and purposes in my life. Thank You that Your ear is ever open to my cries, whether they are simple, silent arrow-prayers, or long-term, persistent pleadings. Thank You that I have access to the throne of grace, for mercy to find help in time of need. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven.”

Praying through Nehemiah 2:12

Heavenly Father, what an encouragement to read how Nehemiah bathed all his concerns in prayer and was willing to be used by You to carry out Your will in his life. Give me the courage and discernment to combine humble intercession with purposeful planning. Give me clarity of thought when I am faced with difficulties and dangers, but keep me from straying from dependence on You (which honours Your name), to becoming self-dependence. Give me wisdom in the decisions I make, and may I always be ready to give an answer for the faith I have in You, for Your greater praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem: neither was there any beast with me, save the beast that I rode upon.”
(Nehemiah 2:12)

Praying through Nehemiah 2:18

Heavenly Father, it is such an encouragement to see the way You used Nehemiah to answer his own prayers, because he was praying into Your will through a knowledge of Your Word. I pray that the thoughts of my heart would be brought into alignment with the desires of Your heart. Make me willing to be used by You in whatever way You choose and keep me ever looking to Jesus, by submitting my will to the Spirit's leading, trusting Your Word, and living in total dependence upon You. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king's words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.”

Praying through Nehemiah 3:1

Dear Lord and Heavenly Father, there is so much for me to learn and I pray that I would have a teachable spirit. Thank You for the Scriptures and for Nehemiah the scribe and Eliashib the high priest, who faithfully carried out the work that You gave them to do with a willing spirit and joyful heart - and who and became such good examples of faithfulness to emulate. Thank You for the gifts and graces that You have given to me. I pray that I would carry out the work that You have called me to do faithfully, and for Your glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel.”

Praying through Nehemiah 5:19

Heavenly Father, I pray that I may be a faithful servant in the place where You have planted me. Help me to listen carefully to Your voice, trust Your Word, follow Your commands, and finish the work that You have called me to do. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Think upon me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.”

Praying through Nehemiah 8:2

Heavenly Father, thank You for the courage of Nehemiah who purposed in his heart to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and refused to be intimidated by those that despised Your name. Thank You for the witness of Ezra the scribe, whom You used to reignite the moral and spiritual fire in the hearts of Israel during this difficult time in their history. Lord, I pray that I may be filled with the same courage and dedication as these two men of God. Kindle the flame of pure celestial fire in my heart with an inextinguishable blaze. I pray that Your perfect will would be done and that my life would be a living sacrifice that honours Your name, for Your praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.”

Praying through Nehemiah 8:10

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are my joy and my strength. Thank You that there is no condemnation to those that are in Christ Jesus and that Your grace is sufficient for me. Keep me faithful to You, for You are my faithful and generous God. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

Praying through Nehemiah 9:10

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many reminders in both Old and New Testaments, of the ease with which we can leave our first love and the speed with which we can wander from the truth. Keep me on the road of righteousness and looking to Jesus. Prevent me from being dazzled by any passing fancy of this world, which can only cause me to stumble. May I never forget that You alone are the Almighty God, the Creator of heaven and earth, and that by grace You sent Your only begotten Son to die in my place so that by faith in Him I may rise to life immortal. Praise Your holy name! AMEN.

“And shewedst signs and wonders upon Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land: for thou knewest that they dealt proudly against them. So didst thou get thee a name, as it is this day.”
