Praying through 2 Peter 1:1

Heavenly Father, thank You that in Your grace and mercy, You used bond- servants, apostles, and prophets such as Simon Peter to reveal Yourself, Your plans, and Your purposes to someone such as me through Your Word of truth. Thank You that I have obtained the same precious faith by believing in Jesus as my Saviour. Open my understanding to all that You would teach me in Your Word and use me to encourage others in their Christian walk. Help me, I pray, to earnestly contend for the faith once offered to the saints. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:”

By Your divine power I have been called, chosen, redeemed, accepted, and equipped to live the godly life that You desire of me. Heavenly Father, I am so blessed to be saved by grace through faith in Christ. I desire to live godly in Christ Jesus, to grow in grace, and to produce spiritual fruit that is honouring to You. Help me to be diligent and disciplined in my Christian walk, not relying on my own abilities and excellence, but trusting in You and the power of the Holy Spirit. May I develop patience, knowing that You are enabling me to grow more like Christ so that eventually I may be fully conformed into His likeness as His Godliness shines through me. Praying through 2 Peter 1:7

Heavenly Father, thank You that while I was a condemned sinner and dead in trespasses and sins - Christ died for me. I thank You that by faith I have been born again into Your family and become Your child. May I grow in grace and manifest all the Christ-like characteristics that You desire of all Your children. Help me to love and reverence You as You deserve - and enable me, I pray, to add to that godliness, brotherly kindness, and give me the grace to progress from brotherly kindness to the godly love which is ours in Christ Jesus our Lord, in Whose name I pray, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You that in Christ I have all that I need for life and godliness. I pray that You would help me to keep the eyes of my heart looking away from the things of this world and firmly looking to Jesus so that I may not become spiritually short-sighted and forget all that Christ has done for me - but become fruitful in the knowledge of my Saviour Jesus Christ - to His praise and glory, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 1:13

Heavenly Father, as I read through Your Word, I praise and thank You for the wonderful truths that it contains. Thank You for the many reminders of who we are in Christ, the conduct that should be ours, and the character that should develop in each one of us, as we live out our lives in this temporary body. Stir up my remembrance of all that Jesus is to me and give me the grace to show forth the love of Christ in word and in deed, to all those I may meet. Use me to bring to their remembrance the wonders of Your name, so that Christ may be glorified in all things, in Whose name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 1:14

Heavenly Father, what a beautiful encouragement to see the lovely way that Peter grew in his knowledge and understanding of You and that we enjoy the same precious promises, which are all 'yes' and 'amen,' in Christ. May I be diligent to develop a strong Christian character, moral excellence, spiritual wisdom, sound doctrine, and self-control, as I also stand firm on the gospel of grace. May I also be ready to meet You... knowing that Christ's return for His Church is imminent. Thank You that I am not only identified with Christ in His death, for the forgiveness of sin, but also with His resurrection, and life everlasting. Thank You in Jesus' name AMEN.

“Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.”

Praying through 2 Peter 1:15

Heavenly Father, thank You for the amazing letters of Peter which teach, train, and guide us into all truth. May I engender in my heart a similar passion for my risen Saviour that is demonstrated in the letters that Peter wrote. May I diligently endeavour to tell others, whom You place in my path, the truth of the glorious gospel of Christ so that after my departure from this world, they too might be able to call to mind the wonderful things of God. I ask this for Your greater praise and glory and in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.”

Praying through 2 Peter 1:16

Heavenly Father, thank You that the Lord Jesus set aside the glory and majesty He had with You from all eternity, to come to earth to be my perfect sacrifice for sin by dying on the Cross. Thank You that He rose again on the third day so that I too may have life immortal, by faith in Him. Thank You that so much of the Bible was written by men who were eyewitnesses of His majesty. I look forward to that glorious day when I too will see Him, face to face. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.”

Praying through 2 Peter 1:17

Heavenly Father, thank You for this precious glimpse into the glorious majesty that clothes our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, that Peter witnessed at the Transfiguration. Thank You that today, Jesus is acting as heavenly High Priest on behalf of the Church, who are His Body, and that He is returning to earth as King of Israel and Governor of the world. Thank You that He fulfilled His earthly role as our Kinsman-Redeemer so that all who trust on Him will not perish but have everlasting life. Praise His holy name, AMEN.

“For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Praying through 2 Peter 1:18

Heavenly Father, thank You that the Lord Jesus laid aside His heavenly majesty to come to earth as the substitute for my sin and for the sin of the entire world. Thank You that we have Peter's eyewitness account of Jesus’ glorious Transfiguration on the holy mount. What a moment it must have been for Peter, James, and John to behold Jesus' glory, to hear the Father presenting His beloved Son to the world, and to glimpse His eternal glory. May I never lose a sense of the magnificence of Jesus, nor minimise the enormous sacrifice He made for me by setting aside His glory to come to earth and die on a Cross for my sin. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.”

Heavenly Father, thank You for the more sure Word of prophecy. Thank You for telling us what would happen before it happens, so we would believe. Thank You that Your Word is a light to my path, shining light in the dark places of this life. May I stand firm of Your Word of truth until that day dawns when Jesus comes to take us to be with Him forever. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 1:21

Heavenly Father, thank You that by Your grace and love, You gave us the inspired Scriptures through Your chosen apostles and prophets and that they were faithful in writing what the Holy Spirit moved them to write. What a blessing to read that You are my Father in heaven and that Your beloved Son came to earth to be my Saviour. Thank You for all the fulfilled prophecies in the Bible, and all the prophecies yet to be fulfilled. May I always hunger and thirst for Your Word as it is light, truth, and life to me. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 2:1

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word of truth and the warnings against false teachers and their destructive doctrines. Keep me under the shadow of Your wing and guide me into all truth in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.”

Praying through 2 Peter 2:3

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus Who died on the Cross, so that by faith in Him we might be saved from the wrath of God, which is demanded for humanities sinfulness. Keep me alert to any false teachings and give me discernment to identify and expose those that seek to exploit the flock of God. In Your grace I pray that many who have been indoctrinated with these satanic lies, would come to a knowledge of the truth. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 2:4

Heavenly Father, I praise and thank You for purposing that You would redeem mankind from their sin. Thank You for sending Jesus Christ as the Son of Man, to pay the price for my transgressions. Thank You that my sin has been judged at the Cross, and that I have been declared righteous in Your sight, by faith. Father, the terrible judgement of the angels that left their first estate, and joined in a heavenly rebellion against Your holy name, is a sombre reminder of the destructive nature of sin. Thank You that by Your grace, You purposed to redeem mankind, and to adopt all who trust in Your only begotten Son, into Your own immortal family. Keep me from minimising the destructive element of sin and its shocking, and eternal consequences, and use me to share the truth of the gospel of grace, with men and women who are dead in their sins and bound for the lake of fire - unless they believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation and forgiveness of their sin. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;”

Praying through 2 Peter 2:5

Heavenly Father, thank You for the warning of the dangers of a rebellious spirit that seeks to elevate fallen man rather than our holy and merciful God. Thank You for the witness of Noah in his generation and that by Your goodness and grace we have been redeemed from sin and death by the blood of Christ, which was shed to pay the price for our sin. Keep me from any form of arrogant thinking and develop in me a humility of spirit that glories in the Cross of Christ my Saviour. And Lord, in Your wrath I pray that You would remember mercy and pluck many from the jaws of everlasting separation while it is still 'today'. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;”

Praying through 2 Peter 2:6

Heavenly Father, thank You for this passage of Scripture that clearly warns of the consequences of sin and the inevitable judgement that must fall on those who refuse Your gracious message of salvation, condemning themselves to death and hell. I pray for the many lost souls who have not trusted Christ for salvation and are bound for eternal death if they do not turn from their wickedness and be saved. Thank You for Your amazing grace toward Noah, the preacher of righteousness, and toward Lot who was grieved by the wickedness of his generation. And thank You for Your grace toward me, in that while I was still a sinner Christ died for me and gave His life as the ransom for my sins. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;”

Praying through 2 Peter 2:7

Heavenly Father, thank You for my great salvation and thank You that my salvation does not depend on what I have done, but on what Christ has done on my account. Thank You for the example of Lot who was credited with righteousness by grace through faith, but who lived an ungodly life that will cause him to suffer loss in the eternal ages to come. I pray that my relationships with others and the choices I make throughout this earthly life, will honour Your holy name and not cause me to lose my reward. Teach me the lessons You would have me learn and may I walk in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 2:9

Heavenly Father, how I bless and thank You for Your precious Word. Thank You for the many truths I learn from its pages, and the reassurances I receive that both the righteous judgement of the wicked and gracious deliverance of the righteous, is the outcome of this world. Thank You that You know how to rescue Your people from both the temptations of the evil one and the inevitable trials that stalk the pathway of every man and woman. Thank You that even in those times when I fail through fear or lack of faith, You remain faithful and Your promises never fail. Praise You, Lord. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 2:10

Heavenly Father, give me wisdom and discernment to recognise and reject those 'teachers' who indulge in fleshly desires, or present a watered-down gospel that deceives its hearers. Open the eyes of my understanding, that I may see wonderful truths in Your Word. Help me to be strong and very courageous in standing up for the truth of the gospel, and help me to be still before You and know that You are God, and there is none other. Thank You, for the promise of Your presence in the lives of all Your people. In Jesus’ name, I pray, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 2:12

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many warnings of false teachers who cause such devastation in the Church. I pray that, in Your grace, false teachers would be exposed for their trickery and their deceptive ministries be brought to justice. Thank You that the true gospel is contained in the Scriptures. Help me to study the Scriptures so that I may be ready to give a clear and accurate answer for the hope I have in me. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 2:20

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many warnings in Your Word about the dangers of false teachers and the devastation they can cause in the lives of those who become entangled with them. I pray for those who are attracted to a counterfeit gospel or embroiled in the false message of apostate teachers, without coming to a knowledge of the truth. Help those who are being fooled, through false teaching and a lack of understanding, into corrupt practices and sinful unbelief. Open their eyes to the truth of the glorious gospel of grace. Thank You that by grace through faith I am saved and my soul is guarded by Christ. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 2:21

Heavenly Father, I grieve to realise how many people must have been affected by being taught a fake gospel with a counterfeit Christ by the many false teachers that have infiltrated churches over the centuries. I pray that in Your grace, You would use godly men and women to pluck some brands from the fire and teach the truth to those that are dead in their sins and without hope in the world. Thank You that it is not Your will that any should perish, but that all would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 2:22

Heavenly Father, how good it is to receive the warnings about false teachers and the destruction they can do to those who are not properly schooled in the Scriptures or are new to the faith. Give me a discerning heart and the desire to learn Your Word and apply its truth in my life. Protect young believers and those that are enquiring about the Lord Jesus, from the destructive elements of apostates who tickle the ears of those that are unschooled in Scripture. I also pray for those who have become prodigals and have been tempted to return to the world. I ask that, in Your grace, You would rescue them and bring them back into true Christian fellowship. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 3:1

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wisdom and instruction in Your Word which is my Shield and Buckler, my Rock, and the Anchor of my soul on which I secure my faith. Thank You that You moved holy men of God, like the apostle Peter, to instruct and guide, to warn and teach. I pray that, day by day, You would bring to my remembrance the things I have learned from the writings of Your apostles and prophets and guide me into all truth, for Your name's sake. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Thank You that You have revealed Your Word of truth to all Your children through Your holy prophets and apostles, for our learning, correction, and training in righteousness. Help me to cleave to the truth of Scripture and not to be influenced by false teachers, doctrines of demons, and extra-biblical revelation. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, it is not Your will that anyone should perish but that all should come to repentance and be saved, by grace though faith in Christ. Look down in pity on those that choose to scoff and mock at the glorious gospel of God. In Your mercy, grace, long-suffering, and great love, please open the eyes of some of these scoffers to the truth of Your Word. May they finally accept the free gift of salvation and be brought into Your kingdom. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 3:4

Heavenly Father, the world is willingly ignorant of the glorious gospel of grace and Christ’s astonishing, atoning sacrifice for sin. People scoff and mock at the predictions of His return to judge the world in righteousness. Lord, I plead Your mercy on all who mock and scorn the truth of Your Word and pray that some would be brought to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ Who died to save all who trust in Him as Saviour. I pray this in Jesus' precious name, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 3:5

Heavenly Father, thank You for the many reminders in Scripture to hold fast to the truth of Your Word. Help me to continuously bring to mind that You are my great and mighty Creator Who spoke the world into being and fashioned man in Your own image. Thank You that despite the sin of our forefathers, You purposed to redeem mankind by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. As the day of His return draws ever closer and so many are choosing to remain ignorant of the things of God, I pray that in Your grace You would convict many of their need of Christ and restore hope to those that are lost. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through 2 Peter 3:6

Heavenly Father, as the united voice of scoffers clamour against Your Word and insist that You will never judge the world as You did in Noah’s day, it is clear that we are now in those predicted perilous times when arrogant men are lovers of self, haters of God, and weighed down with sin. Give me the wisdom to know what to do when confronted by the deception of this age, and I pray that I may be clothed with the armour of God so that I may stand firm in the faith. Help me to be a witness of the truth of Your Word and warn others of the impending judgement that You have clearly laid out in Your Word. Open the eyes of those that have been blinded to the truth and bring many into the kingdom, for Your dear name’s sake. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that gives us hope. You have promised us a new heaven and a new earth that will be free of ungodliness. I praise You that You have explained future events in Your Word and that the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, for the day of judgement, and the destruction of ungodly men. Help me to share the gospel with all I meet so that many may come to a saving knowledge of Christ and be spared a part in the Lake of Fire. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Praying through 2 Peter 3:10

Heavenly Father, thank You that You planned and purposed to redeem mankind and to restore the earth to its former glory. Thank You for telling us the end before the beginning so that we may not fear all that is coming on the earth but understand that Christ won the victory on the Cross and will finally and fully reclaim all that belongs to Him, for Your greater glory. May I be ready for the any day return of Jesus in the clouds for His Bride so that the day does not overtake me like a thief in the night. Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus! AMEN.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:11

Heavenly Father, thank You for telling us the fate of the heavens and the earth; that it will all be burned up, pass away, and be dissolved. It helps to put into perspective my love for this world and the things of this world, compared with the things of You which will never pass away. Help me to hold onto everything of this world lightly and to draw ever closer to You, day by day, being conformed into Your image. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:12

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word which lays out Your perfect schedule for the fulfilment of Your perfect plan... when man’s redemption will be fully and finally completed and every enemy, including death, will be placed under Your feet. Thank You that the day is coming when Jesus will return in the clouds to take His Church to be with Himself, and I look forward to that blessed hope with grateful thanksgiving and great expectation. I praise You that during the Great Tribulation, Israel will be restored into fellowship with You and many believers will escape the jaws of hell by calling on the name of the Lord. Thank You, Father, that Satan will finally be imprisoned and that You have ordained that Your Church will rule and reign with Christ in His coming kingdom. I pray for His soon return so that all things may be placed back under Your sovereign authority. This I pray in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:13

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your perfect plan of salvation. Thank You that You have given fallen man so much time to choose to accept Your gift of salvation by faith and to be born again into Your heavenly kingdom. Thank You that the troubles and trials of this present age will one day cease, and that believers have the hope and blessing of ruling and reigning with Christ in His Millennial Kingdom. Thank You that in the ages to come, heaven and earth will be free of all the residue of sin and Satan, as You will destroy the old and create new heavens and a new earth. May I play my part in Your eternal plan and purpose and live my life today in a way that points the world to Christ. May I honour Your holy name in thought, word, and deed. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:14

Heavenly Father, thank You for the urgency of Peter's epistle. May I take note of the warning to identify error and pursue His perfect peace as the time for Christ's return draws ever closer. May I rest in Him and, in the power of the Holy Spirit, be spotless in thought, word, deed, and motive, for I desire to live blamelessly before Your face. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:15

Heavenly Father, thank You that holy men of God wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit, to reveal Your plans and purposes for salvation. Thank You for apostles and prophets like Peter and Paul who have told us the end from the beginning so that in the power of the Holy Spirit, we may grow in grace. Help me to be diligent to guard my heart and keep my eyes looking to Jesus. Thank You that You are a good and long-suffering God, and that it is not Your will that any should perish but that all sinners should come to repentance. I pray that in the time we have left, before Your righteous judgement is poured out on those who reject Your offer of salvation, many sinners would repent of their sins and turn to Christ for forgiveness. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:16

Heavenly Father, thank You for the writings of Peter, Paul, and all holy men of God who wrote the Scriptures. Thank You that You have given us all we need to live godly lives and to understand the times in which we live. Give me greater insight into those Bible passages that unscrupulous and ignorant men like to distort and twist, through their own pride, ignorance, or lack of diligent study. I pray that I would not be swept along by false teachings but become increasingly grounded on the Word of truth. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”

Praying through 2 Peter 3:18

Heavenly Father, I pray that I may know Jesus more and more with every passing day. I thank You for the amazing grace You have poured out on me and pray that I may grow in grace, day after day, for Your honour and glory. Thank You for Your Word that opens up the glorious truth that Christ died for us, was buried, and rose again so that all who believe on Him might not perish but have everlasting life. I pray that I may grow in the knowledge of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, to Whom be all honour and glory both now and into the day of eternity. This I pray in Jesus' precious name, AMEN.

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
