Praying through Job 1:1

Heavenly Father, I bless and thank You for the many lessons I can learn from the book of Job. Like so many before me, I too have misrepresented Your grace and favour toward mankind through my own lack of understanding and limited perception. Thank You for Your goodness and grace, Your forbearance and mercy, Your wisdom and strength, and Your kindness and favour toward us all. You commended Your love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, the Lord Jesus Christ died for us. Thank You for not giving us what we deserve, but instead giving us what we do not deserve. Help me to come to a deeper knowledge and understanding of Who You are, and help me to live my life in a way that honours You. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.”
(Job 1:1)

Praying through Job 1:6

Heavenly Father, thank You for this peep into the spiritual realm. Thank You that the rule of sin and Satan over Your beautiful earth will soon be over. I praise You that despite Adam and Eve’s sin, the abdication of their responsibility, and the relinquishment of man’s dominion over the earth to Satan – that by Your grace, You sent the Lord Jesus to pay the price for our sin and redeem us from a lost eternity. By grace through faith in Him, we are forgiven of our sin and given eternal life. Help me to live for Him during my time on earth, no matter what pain and suffering I may be called upon to go through. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.

“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.”

Praying through Job 1:21

Heavenly Father, thank You for the amazing lessons we can learn from Your servant, Job. I thank You for the many blessings You have graciously given me throughout my life, and I pray that I may hold the things of this world lightly, knowing that all I have is from You - and that whether I am rich or poor, whether I have much or little, whether I am rejoicing or in mourning, whether You give or take away - I pray that I may rejoice in Your goodness always, and recognise that You are my God and Saviour, Who died so that I might live, to Your praise and glory, AMEN.

“And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”

Praying through Job 2:4

Heavenly Father, thank You for the insight the book of Job gives about the spiritual war that has been raging in heavenly places since the fall of man in the garden of Eden and that You are sovereign over all Your creation, including Satan. Thank You for the many examples of men of faith who resisted the devil, and stood firm in the evil day. I pray that like Job, Paul, Peter, and others, I too would stand firm in the truth of the gospel of God and trust in Your unfailing love. Thank You that I have been equipped with the whole armour of God and that His grace is sufficient to deal with all the fiery darts of the evil one. Thank You for my position in Christ, and I pray that I would live and work to honour Your name. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.”

Praying through Job 2:10

Heavenly Father, as I consider the story of Job, I begin to see that there are none that are righteous, not even one, and that only by faith in Your dearly beloved Son and His righteousness, can we be declared righteous in Your sight. Thank You that Jesus is our Kinsman-Redeemer, the Days-man for Whom Job longed, and our sacrifice for sin. Thank You for the lessons I can learn from every character in the book of Job. Help me to make the right choices in my life and to trust You, no matter what circumstances may arise. Keep me from speaking foolish words when faced with adversity, and thank You that Your grace is always sufficient. Help me to live by faith in Your Word and not to be swayed by sight or feelings, even when I don’t understand. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.”

Praying through Job 2:13

Heavenly Father, thank You for friends who will sit with me through times of grief. Help me to realise that sometimes I don't need to offer lots of chatter to help someone, but just being there for a friend in need may be the best for them. Thank You that You work all things together for good for those that love You and that no matter what sufferings I may have to undergo in this fallen world, You will use it to teach me more of Your character and more about myself. Keep me from engaging in human wisdom or allowing worldly philosophies or legalistic tendencies to adversely influence my understanding of Your plans and purposes. And help me to hold fast to my integrity, like Job, when I do not understand why difficulties have arisen in my life. This I ask in Jesus' name. AMEN.

“So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.”

Praying through Job 3:1

Heavenly Father, thank You for the book of Job which gives such amazing insight into the spiritual battle that continues to rage in the heavenlies and gives such an honest representation of Job’s plight. Keep me from temptation, deliver me from the wiles of the devil, and help to stand fast in the faith, no matter what difficulties I may have to face. I pray that I would always maintain my own integrity in my God and Saviour, but keep me from any religiosity and legalism, and prevent me from being opinionated about the difficulties that others may be facing. Give me discernment to know how to help and encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ, and may I do all for Your glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.”

Praying through Job 3:17

Heavenly Father, I am amazed at the wonderful way that Job refused to deny You, even when he was beset by the most terrible circumstances any man could have to face. Thank You that You know the end from the beginning and through Job’s distress, You brought him to a deeper knowledge and an exquisite understanding of Who You are. Forgive the times I have said things without thinking. Thank You that you ignore those times when I too have been foolish enough to regret my life or wish it away because I am in the midst of great difficulty, or depressed by the circumstances of life. Help me to keep the eyes of my heart on Jesus, and keep me trusting You in every eventuality of life. I know that You are dealing with me with eternity in view, just as You were with Your servant Job. Thank You, in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.”

Praying through Job 3:25

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me that the good things that happen to me are not because of MY goodness but because of YOUR grace. Help me to remember that the difficult things I may have to endure, are not always an indication of sin but can be attributed to Satan - the accuser of my soul. Thank You that IN CHRIST there is nothing of which I can be accused, because Christ is my Mediator, Whose shed blood cleanses me from ALL sin, past, present, and future.  Thank You, that I am clothed forever in His righteousness and that Your grace is open to the sinner, and saved alike. I pray that many who are deceived by satanic lies will be set free, and come to saving faith in Christ Jesus my Lord, in Whose name I pray, AMEN.

“For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.”

Praying through Job 4:6

Heavenly Father, I realise how easy it is to pass false judgements on others and confess that I am too ready to accuse others of wrong-doing, when someone's words and actions do not line up with my own moral code and my limited understanding. Keep me from any critical thoughts of others, and I pray that the words of my mouth, the actions of my life, the meditation of my heart, and the motives behind all I am is acceptable to You. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?”

Healing For A Friend In Pain

Heavenly Father, please look down with compassion on my friend who has been confined to a bed of sickness and is in such great physical pain. Send comfort and healing I pray, and in Your gracious kindness, please strengthen and heal whatever the problem is that has caused this illness in their body. In Jesus name I pray,

Amen.

“For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.”

For Families With An Alcoholic Father

Loving Heavenly Father, You put us into families and set a father as the leader and role model for each family, but Lord, there are many families that are being torn apart by a husband and father that has become addicted to alcohol.

Knowing the devastating nature of this disease, I pray that You would prompt each one to turn away from this evil habit to become the responsible husband and father that You desire each one to be.

Lord, we know that there are many alcoholic husbands that abuse their wives both physically and emotionally and that many children are also placed in danger due to abuse from an alcoholic father. And also Lord, we know that such drinking habits can often leave families with insufficient money to live on.

Protect all those that are vulnerable from all forms of abuse, and convict such men of the responsibilities of being loving husbands and dependable fathers. Lord, we pray that they turn from their evil ways to turn to the Lord Jesus, knowing that only in You is true freedom found.

Thank You Father. I commit all families that are in this position into Your safe-keeping. In Jesus' name,

Amen.

“Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.”

Praying through Job 11:7

Heavenly Father, forgive me for my bitter complaints, my prideful thoughts, and my criticism of others. Above all, I ask Your forgiveness for my lack of understanding of Your almighty power and unfathomable wisdom. I pray that You would open my spiritual eyes of understanding so that I may know You more and love you better. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through Job 13:15

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the many lessons I am learning from the book of Job. Help me recognise that even in the most difficult of circumstances, You are with me, and Your grace is sufficient no matter what pressures and problems I may have to face. Thank You for the reminder that there is a spiritual battle raging in the unseen realm and that I have been given sufficient grace to face all my problems and have been equipped with the whole armour of God. Increase my faith and hope in You, and help me to stand fast in the evil day. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Job 19:25

Loving Heavenly Father, what a wonderful declaration to fall from the lips of Job: "I know that my Redeemer lives." Thank You for the truth of Your Word and the wonderful illustrations of real people who trusted You, no matter what. Thank you that You are my Redeemer. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Job 23:10

Loving Father, I don’t understand all that is going on in my life, but my times are in Your hands and so are the circumstances of those that I love. Thank You that all we face is under the shadow of Your protection. I pray that when I have been tried, I too will come forth as gold. I pray that I will trust in Your unfailing love and not be afraid. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through Job 26:14

Heavenly Father, what a great and glorious God You are. Thank You for the magnificence of Your creation and truths You have unfolded to our understanding through Your Word. But Lord, as I read through the book of Job and other testimonies of Your greatness, I realise how great You are and how insignificant we are. Yet, in Your goodness and grace, You sent Jesus to give us a greater understanding of Who you are and all that You have done. Thank You for Your amazing plan of redemption and for loving me enough to send Jesus to be my Redeemer and Friend. To Him be all praise and glory forever and ever, AMEN.

“Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?”

Praying through Job 36:22

Heavenly Father, too often I try to speak for You in ignorance and even attempt to defend You or advise You, when I actually need to quietly sit at Your feet and listen. Give me a teachable spirit, I pray, and draw me into closer and more intimate communion with Yourself. May you be exulted in my life. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Job 38:4

Heavenly Father, it is very humbling to realise that Your wisdom and understanding is infinite and unknowable and yet, in Your grace, You have shared Your plan of redemption with Your fallen creatures. Father, when I don't understand the difficulties I am going through in my own life, I pray that I may trust You in all things and never doubt Your perfect plans and purposes. I know that You are sovereign and Your way is best. Help me to live by faith and not by sight. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through Job 42:2

Dear Father God, when I look at the heavens and the wonderful works that You have made, what is man that You are mindful of us and yet You chose us - You chose me to be Your child. Let me live in humble submission to the leading of Your Spirit, knowing that in me dwells no good thing. I know that You can do all things and nothing that You plan is impossible. Thank You, in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through Job 42:5

Heavenly Father, thank You for this amazing insight into Your person and character. Help me, in the power of Your Spirit, to stand fast in the evil day, resist the wiles of the enemy, and the accusations of Satan. Help me stand firm on the unchangeable Word of truth, to hear You speak to me from Your Word, and to see You more clearly as I search the Scriptures. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.
