Prayer for Haggai

Praying through Haggai 1:1

Heavenly Father, thank You for the book of Haggai and the lessons I can learn from Israel’s disobedience, indifference, and compromise, when they failed to carry out the work You had prepared for them to do in the rebuilding the Temple. As I look at my life, I know there is work that You have prepared for me to do. I pray that I would be obedient to Your call, diligent to carry out Your work, and ready and willing to do only those things that honour Your name. Help me to walk in spirit and truth, become mature in the faith, and work the works of God according to Your Word. Teach me all that You would have me to learn as I study the Scriptures, and keep me ever ready to put You first in my life, for Your greater praise and glory. In Jesus' name and for His honour, AMEN.

“In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,”

Praying through Haggai 1:4

Heavenly Father, thank You for the amazing history of Your people Israel and the wonderful way that You use them to teach us spiritual truths and warn us of the dangers of disobedience or carelessness in our Christian lives. Thank You that I have the indwelling Holy Spirit and am a living stone in the spiritual Temple of God, which is being built up for Your eternal glory. May I live and work for Your everlasting praise, and keep me from wasting the precious time I have left, or shelving important spiritual things for the sake of the urgent!!! Thank You in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?”

Praying through Haggai 1:5

Heavenly Father, I praise and bless You for Your goodness and grace to all Your children. Thank You for the many precious promises that I have received through faith in Christ. Help me to learn the lessons that You would teach me as I read through Your Word, and may I never forget to consider all that You have done for me. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.”

Praying through Haggai 1:6

Heavenly Father, how quick I am to recognise the faults and failings of Your people, Israel, and yet I am guilty in neglecting my own duty toward You, which should be my delight and my joy, for by Your grace I have been forgiven of my sin, received life eternal, and have all I need for life and godliness. Forgive me for the times I have placed my wants and wishes before honouring Your holy name and giving You the glory and respect You alone deserve. Thank You for the many blessings I have received at Your hand. Help me never to become complacent about my great salvation in Christ. This I ask in His holy name, AMEN.

“Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.”

Praying through Haggai 1:8

Heavenly Father, thank You for Haggai the prophet and the great truths in this little book. Thank You that we do not live under the Law, but in the dispensation of Grace, and we do not have to rebuild the Temple, offer animal sacrifices, or keep special feast days in order to worship You. What a blessing that the one thing You require from me, is faith alone in Christ alone. Thank You that His finished work on the Cross is sufficient. Lord, I offer myself as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. May the motives behind my thoughts, words, and deeds, be to glorify You and You alone. This I ask in Jesus’ name and for His greater glory, AMEN.

“Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.”

Praying through Haggai 2:9

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are in control of history and that the day is coming when Christ will return to earth in power and great glory to set up His kingdom, rebuild His Temple in Jerusalem, and bring peace and prosperity to all. Thank You that during this Church age, while Israel has been set aside for a season, You are using the Church as a living Temple and have commissioned the Body of Christ to be Your ministers of reconciliation. Thank You that Your plan of redemption continues to unfold, and that the day is coming when Christ will rule and reign in the Holy City of Jerusalem, and the earth will be filled with the glory of God as the waters cover the sea. Praise Your holy name! AMEN.

“The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.”
