Prayers for Advent

Praise For The First And Second Advents Of The Lord

Dear Father God, how we rejoice when we call to our minds the glorious truth that the eternal Light of the world came to earth as a baby to become the Redeemer of mankind, to give His life for a lost world and to pour peace and hope into the hearts of a people who were estranged from their Creator God.

Father, may our lives reflect Jesus' love as we look back in time to the first Advent of our Lord and Saviour, but let us never forget that there is a future Advent, a second coming when the earth will be filled with the glory of God once again, as the waters cover the sea.

Lord, we know that You are returning, not as a tiny baby lying in a humble manger and wrapped in swaddling clothes, but as a conquering King Who is to come to rescue His people Israel. And Lord, we know that first You are to come in the clouds to take Your church back to Your heavenly home, when the dead in Christ will rise first and we will all be changed in a moment to become like You, Lord Jesus.

Lord I pray that Your Church will prepare herself for Your soon return. May Your Body be ready for that glorious day when You come to take us home to be with Yourself. Lord, I beseech You that Your Bride, who is the Church, will be pure and holy without spot and wrinkle or any such thing. In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Prayer And Praise During Advent

Dear Heavenly Father, at this time of the year when the Church remembers the first coming of our Lord and Saviour into the world, we want to lift up our hearts and voices in prayer and praise to You, for sending the Lord Jesus Christ into the world to be our Saviour, so that through his blood we may be brought back into a right relationship with Yourself and receive the gift of eternal life – by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

At this time, our thoughts are especially drawn in remembrance to the wonderful time, so long ago, when God in His grace sent the eternal Son of His love into the world to become the propitiation for our sins. How we rejoice when we recall that He set aside His glory and great majesty to take on the form of a man and be born into this world as a tiny baby, in such humble circumstances.

Lord, in a world that is become more secular, I pray that the people of God who are called by Your name would take time to reflect with awe and wonder on this amazing truth, and to prepare our hearts for the time when Jesus Christ will return again in power and great glory at His second Advent.

Purify our hearts we pray, and sanctify our lives so they we may serve you in newness of life, not only in this special season of Advent but every day of our lives,  until You come to take us to be with You forever. In Jesus' name we pray,

Amen.

Prepare Our Hearts In This Time Of Advent

Heavenly Father, thank You for the opportunity for us to once again examine our hearts during this lovely time of Advent, and the faith in Christ Jesus that we confess.

Keep our hearts aglow with love for Jesus, and help us to wonder more and more about amazing the grace that You have shown towards sinful man, in sending Your only begotten Son to come to earth, as a tiny human baby, so that He could bear the punishment for the sins of the whole world on His holy shoulders.

It never ceases to amaze us that Christ Jesus should set aside His heavenly glory and be conceived of the Holy Spirit by the virgin Mary, birthed into the human family as the promised Seed of the woman, and be worshipped as a tiny baby in a humble stable at Bethlehem, by simple shepherds and singing angels alike.

It was Love incarnate that visited the earth so many years ago, and that same love saved us from our sins, and came to dwell within the hearts of all that trust in Jesus as Saviour. Heavenly Father, accept our grateful sacrifice of praise, and may we come to know You more and love You better in the days that lie ahead. In Jesus' name we pray,

Amen.

“God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Thanksgiving For The Advent Of Jesus

Father, You are our God of hope and love. Thank You for sending Your only begotten Son into the world, so that sinful man might be forgiven of their sins and be given peace with God, through the sacrifice of the precious life of Christ Jesus.

Thank You for the joy and hope that this time of Advent brings into the hearts of all those who trust in Jesus. Thank You for the good news of the gospel of Christ that brings man back into sweet fellowship with their Creator, and for the perfect peace and glorious hope that He has placed into the hearts of all who trust on His name.

Thank You, Lord, that Jesus is coming again to set up His eternal kingdom on earth as You have promised, and that we who are members of His body will rule and reign with Him for 1000 years.

Thank You, for the hope and love and peace that You gave to mankind in the Person of our Lord Jesus Christ. To Him be all the praise and glory at this special time of Advent and throughout the coming year. In Jesus' name,

Amen.

“Let us enter His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout triumphantly to Him in song.”

Prayer For Unbelievers At Advent Time

Dear Lord, what great hope and mystery surrounds this lovely time of the year, when the body of Christ specially remembers the first advent of our Lord Jesus with such anticipation. That wonderful time when You came into the world, so many years ago, as the King of Israel and Saviour of the world.

Lord, I know that it is not Your will that anyone should perish but that all should come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Who alone can save a dying world, lost in trespasses and sins.

Open the eyes and the hearts of those that are lost in their sins and blinded to the truth of the glorious gospel of Christ. Visit those I pray, who have not yet accepted the Lord Jesus as their Saviour. Convict those who have their attention fixed on the temporal things that are passing away. Lord, at this time of Advent when the people of the world are so busy in making preparation for a secular Christmas, I ask You to convict many hearts of their real need of Jesus Christ as their Saviour.

Bring many to a deeper understanding of the real meaning of Advent and Christmas. Help them to come to realise that this is a time of hope, as we remember when the eternal God became the perfect Man, and was born as a baby to die on a cross for the sins of the world. Help them to understand that He lived His life in the shadow of the cross, so that sinful man could be forgiven, by simply believing on His name. Look down in pity on all who do not know the Lord Jesus as Saviour, and may many be saved at this time. In Jesus' name,

Amen.

“And say: "Save us, God of our salvation; gather us and rescue us from the nations so that we may give thanks to Your holy name and rejoice in Your praise.”
