Praying through Matthew 26:4

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that Your Word is true and we have all we need for life and godliness contained within the sacred pages of Scripture. I pray that my heart and mind would be open to Your pure scrutiny and that all I say and do would honour You. Thank You that You know the end from the beginning, and I pray that any evil that is being secretly plotted today, to dishonour Your name and shipwreck the faith of Your people, will be exposed and that truth will prevail. Thank You for sending Jesus to be the sacrifice for my sin and that He took the punishment I deserve so that I could be declared righteous in Your eyes. Praise Your holy name, AMEN.

“And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.”
(Matthew 26:4)

Praying through Matthew 26:28

Heavenly Father, thank You for the blood of the covenant which is poured out for many, for the forgiveness of sins. Thank You for Your promise of a new and eternal covenant, a covenant of the Spirit rather than one based on the letter of the Law. Thank You that Jesus came to cut the new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, and that He gave His Church the Last Supper as a reminder of His sacrificial offering for the sin of the world. Thank You that Jesus came as the final Passover Lamb, Who takes away the sin of the world, and that He is returning as the resurrected Lord, Who sits on the throne. I praise Your holy name for Your plans and purposes which have been revealed to all who will believe. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”

Praying through Matthew 26:40

Thank You, Lord, for Your Word of truth and the lessons it teaches me day by day. I understand that in my own strength I would soon fall into some narcotic slumber, because my heart is grieved by all that is coming on the world. Yet I praise and thank You that in Your strength and with Your sufficient grace, I know that I can face the future, for You are with me to uphold me with Your righteous right hand. Give me Your strength I pray, to faithfully keep watch with my Lord Jesus in His continuous ministry of intercession. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

“And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?”

Praying through Matthew 26:41

Heavenly Father, as I consider the passion of Christ and the enormous pressures and pain He underwent on my account, I can only praise and thank You for Your immeasurable gift and His incalculable grace. I understand that my own, fallen, fleshly resolve is weak, and that a powerful enemy is seeking to shipwreck my faith. But thanks be to God that in Christ, I have all I need to stand firm, as I watch and pray. Help me to rejoice evermore, pray without ceasing, and in everything, to give thanks and praise for Your goodness and grace. Help me, Father, to watch and pray in spirit and truth, and to abide in Christ day by day, to Your praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Praying through Matthew 26:59

Heavenly Father, as I consider the abuse that the Lord Jesus had to suffer at the hands of His enemies, to pay the price for my sin, and the sin of the whole world, I am filled with awe and wonder, thanksgiving, and praise for all that He has done for me. Help me to follow in His gracious footsteps and know that the final judgement of sinful men is Your responsibility. Give me grace to stand firm in the truth of the gospel and open the eyes of many who remain deceived to the truth. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;”
