Prayer for John 3

Praying through John 3:1

Heavenly Father, thank You for this wonderful witness of a man with a teachable spirit. I pray that like Nicodemus, I may have a teachable spirit and be prepared to come to You with all my needs and questions. Help me not to trust in my own understanding, knowing that You not only have the answer, but that You are the answer. This I pray in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through John 3:2

Heavenly Father, thank You, that no one who truly seeks to know the truth of Who You are, will be denied that knowledge. Thank You that the truth of Who You are is recorded in Your holy Word. Open my eyes to see the wonderful things contained in Your Word, and may I grow in grace and in a knowledge of my Saviour Jesus Christ. To His praise and glory, AMEN.

Praying through John 3:3

Loving Father, thank You that I have been given the gift of eternal life, simply because I trusted in Jesus. Thank You that my spiritual birth and my spiritual growth in the Christian life does not depend on my abilities, but is a free gift of grace, given to all who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Praying through John 3:4

Heavenly Father, thank You that You gave me life, formed me in my mother’s womb, and scheduled every day of my life. Thank You that You sought me out and brought me into Your kingdom through spiritual birth. How I praise You that I have been born from above, have become part of a new creation in Christ, and am covered in His righteousness. Thank You that in Christ, I am already part of His spiritual kingdom and will one day rule and reign with Him when He sets up His throne on earth. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through John 3:5

Heavenly Father, thank You for my life and for all that it means to be born into the human race. But more than that, I thank You, Father, that Your Holy Spirit convicted me of my sin, of Christ's righteousness, and of the terrible condemnation that will befall all who have not believed in the Son of God for the forgiveness of sin and life everlasting. Thank You that I have been born of the Spirit and washed clean by Christ's precious blood. Thank You for sending Jesus to be the propitiation for my sin. Look down in pity on all whose hearts are crying out for the truth - just as Nicodemus did when he came to Jesus by night and discovered that it is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, that we can enter the kingdom of heaven and live with You in the eternal ages to come. Praise His holy name, AMEN.

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”

Praying through John 3:6

Thank You, Father, that the Word of God reveals our true spiritual need, and that the good news of the gospel is so clearly laid out in Scripture. How wonderful to have been given a bird's eye view into the teaching of the new birth given to Nicodemus. Thank You for my physical birth into this world and for the opportunity to be born again and become a child of God, through faith in Christ. Thank You that I have been declared righteousness by faith in Christ and have Your assurance that I will not only see heaven but will one day enter through the gates of pearl into Your heavenly presence. Thank You, in Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through John 3:8

Heavenly Father, thank You that I am born again by the indiscernible, unfathomable work of the Spirit deep within. I pray that You would work in my life and, little by little, replace my stubborn will with Your better plans and purposes. And I pray that You who have started a good work in me, would continue until the day of Christ Jesus, AMEN.

Praying through John 3:13

Dear Lord, thank You that I have been born from above, have become a child of God, and have an inheritance kept for me in heaven. Lord, I do not have the greatest knowledge and understanding of Scripture, but I do know that You came down from heaven to die on the Cross to pay the price for my sin, and that You rose again the third day to break the power of sin in my life and make me a new creation in Christ. And Lord, I know that You ascended into heaven and that I am positioned in Christ in heavenly places, for which I praise and thank You. May I live my life in spirit and truth to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.”

Praying through John 3:14

Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus is my substitute for sin, that He was lifted up on the Cross for my sake and took the punishment that I deserve. I pray that I may lift up the wonderful name of Jesus to all with whom I come in contact so that they may hear the good news of the glorious gospel of grace and look to Him for salvation and live. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.

Praying through John 3:15

Heavenly Father, thank You that just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness - even so the lovely Lord Jesus came to earth to be made sin on my account and was lifted up on Calvary's cross so that by faith in Him I have life eternal. I pray that many today would come to saving faith in our precious Saviour, in Whose name I pray, AMEN.

Thank You, Lord, for the Bible and for the truth that it contains. Guide me into all truth, I pray, knowing that all I need for salvation and sanctification is contained within the pages of Scripture. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through John 3:18

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me so much that while I was still a sinner, You sent Jesus to save me from my sin and not to condemn me because of my sin. I praise You for Your glorious plan of redemption, and for saving me by grace through faith in Christ. Thank You that there is now no condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus, and I pray that I may live my life to Your praise and glory. Thank you, Lord, for Your long-suffering mercy, goodness, and grace for the human race, including me. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Praying through John 3:19

Heavenly Father thank You that Your will and purpose is to save guilty sinners, like me, from eternal punishment and judgement. Thank You that by Your grace and goodness, love and power You sent Your Son to pay the purchase price for my sin, and for the sin of the world, so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. Thank You that by grace through faith in Christ I have been removed from eternal judgement and received the forgiveness of sins and life everlasting. I pray that many sinners who remain under Your condemnation today would realise their desperate need of a Saviour and turn to Christ today.. and be saved. This I ask in His precious name, AMEN.

“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

Praying through John 3:20

Heavenly Father, I increasingly recognise the evil and wickedness in which this world is drowning. Lord, I pray that people would not believe the lie that they have committed a sin too great to be forgiven. I pray they would come to the Light of the World, Jesus Christ, and be saved by trusting in Him, because in Him alone are the words of eternal life and the forgiveness of sins. Use me as a light in the world to point lost men and women to Jesus. Help me to shine the light of Your love into many hearts today, knowing that the time for Your return draws ever closer. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.”

Praying through John 3:29

Heavenly Father, what a thrill to realise that because I believe in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, and His sacrificial work on the Cross, I have been given the right to become Your child and have been made a member of His mystic Body and am part of His spiritual Bride. As I reflect on the joy that servants, like John the Baptist, expressed in recognising Jesus as the beloved Son of God, Who takes away the sin of the world, it fills me with wonder and awe at Your faithfulness to both Israel and Your great love of the Church. Just as John rejoiced to point people to the Bridegroom, so I rejoice that the day is coming when all Israel will be saved, when they repent of their sin nationally, and call out to the Lord Jesus for their own salvation. Great is Your faithfulness. Praise Your holy name, AMEN.

“He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.”

Praying through John 3:30

Heavenly Father, thank You for the life and ministry of John the Baptist, who spent his life pointing people to the truth of the gospel of Christ, the Word made flesh and Light of the world. Thank You for the testimony of John the Baptist and his example of humility and grace, because despite being great in the eyes of men and a special minister of God, he was able to proclaim with all his heart that Christ must increase while he must decrease. Lord, please help me to follow John the Baptist’s example and every day be ready to testify that Jesus is the Saviour of the world and that He must increase in importance and influence, while I must decrease. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

“He must increase, but I must decrease.”

Praying through John 3:34

Heavenly Father, thank You that through faith in Christ, I have been given the Holy Spirit without measure and have access to the unlimited power of Christ's Spirit living in me. Thank You that I have been brought out of spiritual blindness into the truth of the glorious gospel of grace, and I pray that I would value this great treasure that has been entrusted to me, and Who now indwells this mortal frame. May I live and work to Your praise and glory, and honour Your holy name in all I say and do. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.

“For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.”

Praying through John 3:36

Heavenly Father, thank you that You loved me so much that while I was still under Your wrath and dead in my trespasses and sins, Christ died for me. Thank you that He rose again from the dead, so that by faith in Him I might not experience the shocking and eternal consequences of God’s wrath but receive the free gift of eternal life. I pray that I might live for Him. To Him be all praise and glory forever and ever, AMEN.

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
